Sounds about right man LOL you'll have to let me know when you get to initial Flight training as I went through that myself and then decided I didn't want to fly as a career haha
@Muhammad Furqan, no. Officer candidates do not have to wait until their U.S. Air Force security clearance investigation clears prior to starting OTS, flight school, etc. A [Top Secret] security clearance for pilots and rated Officers can take up to a year to formally conclude.
@Muhammad Furqan, I was a rated candidate. I’m not entirely sure about the Air Force’s non-rated candidates. BUT - I will say, often both rated and non-rated candidates WILL ‘compete’ for a commission in the same Board. The only real difference is that non-rated candidates do not have to: 1) qualify on a significant portion of the AFOQT 2) qualify on the TBAS 3) undergo (pass) a flight physical Only basic MEPS is required. So less stringent on the medical front. If it took roughly 1-1.5 years for rated candidates to successfully ascend in to OTS, it is likely to be “slightly less” than that for non-rated candidates. Good luck on the N.R. candidacy!
Thanks for your perspective! It's hard to find air force officer UA-cam pages. Question: I have a bachelors in business; can I go for an officer job not involved in business (ie, space command or cyber) or would I only be eligible for a business type field?
The Lieutenant awesome! Really appreciate it! I've spoken to recruiters in the past and they were not specific with me and made it seem like that wasn't the case, which has prevented me from taking steps forward. I've been in the business world but realized now that I have the degree that I thinknot rather pursue a different field. I've always thought about joining the military as well so I was thinking this may be the perfect option if I could get in as an officer with my degree and apply it towards a different field (as long as that was still acceptable). Thank you!
I really hoping you can make a video or at least mention how to become an officer by doing enlisted first. And have you had anyone ask you for a sponsor? Thanks for your videos though, I learn something new everytime!
Awesome videos bro, I am majoring in mechanical engineering rn so listening to your stuff Is giving me a better idea of how to follow in your footsteps. Thanks!
I just got my Bachelors in MechE this past May and went to OTS in June. I did not have a high GPA! Lol. My AFOQT scores ranged from 83-98 though What questions do you have? I'm a 32E3G now
@@preverthevamp Thanks, CE is a great career field in the AF. I took it June 2017 but I remember you should be quick with your algebra. You need to be able to move fast, on the entire test
So glad I found your channel! I was considering ROTC but I want to focus 100% on my engineering degree, so now I am interested in OTS. You said you worked as an engineer for 3 years after college? What age did you apply to OTS at? Keep making videos this is good information!
My sister has a bachelor's degree from a seminary and i am not sure of the school's accreditation. Do you know if the AF will go into detail over whether or not the school is accredited through the Department of Education. She is currently enrolled in a Masters of Divinity in an established school. Thanks in advance for your time.
The real question is: how do you get your arms so damn big? I lost all my mass at OTS (yes, despite your video) and it's so hard getting back to lifting now that I PCS'd to Dyess AFB and am trying to get everything set up while waiting to go to WMGT 101 @ Wright Pat in October. At the end of the day, it's like, all I wanna do is sit on the couch
MY NIECE JUST RECENTLY GRADUATE COLLEGE SHE IS BS PSYCHOLOGY .I RECOMMEND TO HER TO ENLIST TO THE U.S AIR FORCE SO SHE CAN GET AN EXPERIENCE WHAT SHOULD WE DO WE IS SHE QUALIFIED FOR OFFICER
I have a plan for my life, but really want advice from experienced people to critique my plan of action. First part is one to two years at a community college depending on how fast I can get out, transfer over to university to finish my four year major. Before moving into graduates school for another two years I really want to contribute to the US Air Force. I think the best steps would then talk with an Air Force recruiter about becoming an officer through OTS and apply for a pilot slot as many times as I possibly can, and in doing so enter AFOTS, as I believe this would help me achieve my dream of becoming a pilot. I want to take the fighter pilot route, and of course I wouldn’t mind being placed anywhere or any really any branch as long I got to pilot an aircraft no matter the pay or 10 years needed. What important advice or things needed to know when talking to a recruiter would be vital and allow me to apply for a pilot slot? If anyone reads this, any feed back is greatly appreciated!
Note I give my whole plan because I feel even though I looked into all the paths of becoming a pilot, I still have an incredible amount to learn and what it requires. I want my chances to be as high as possible. Would talking with a recruiter right now help or wait till after I get my four year?
I’ll be graduating from college with a bachelor of science in business administration in spring of 2020 and wanting to join the Air Force as an officer. What are some things that I can start doing right now to gain a competitive advantage over those applying for OTS as well?
Hello, I have a question, if I don’t really have community service experience, should I try and look for some ways I can volunteer to make my overall package look better? Does that portion matter as much as my gpa, test scores, and recommendation letters?
Hey Tyler, I'd say that your overall package could never hurt with community service. It's a plus to have but I wouldn't say you HAVE to have a package full of it. I had a little bit of volunteer work in mine but not much. The Air Force is all about the "Whole Airman Concept" meaning they look at everything as a whole (interview, test scores, gpa, people skills, degree, personality, etc.). In my opinion I wouldn't worry about what kind of community service. Just volunteering is good in itself and says a lot about what YOU are about. Hope this helps! -Mike
I can't speak for any other branches but the branch I chose the recruiter was only interested in quantity not quality. Terrible approach to fit the best pieces in the whole puzzle. He didn't care who washed out only numbers. Terrible
Have you encountered any prior service dudes? Im currently in the Marines looking to be an pilot in the air force after collage. How hard is that transition?
I had 1 prior enlisted Marine in my 18-07 OTS class. I think the transition is probably similar for all branches; you're going from being told what to do (more or less) to a position where a lot is expected of you and you're the decision maker for the most part now. At least for yourself. No one at work is telling me how to use my time, I'm figuring it out myself. I think what's good about being prior enlisted is that you know their common struggles, how their system works (ie. promotion, etc). On the other hand, being "entrenched" in the military prior to commissioning also might make you "blind" to new perspectives or ideas that a non-prior might bring in. Like someone who's been in the private sector for a while. 60% of my OTS class was prior. A few Army, 1 Marine, maybe 1 Navy?
Ape is spot on, but I will say that the Pilot Program for the Air Force is no joke, its strict. You have to be more than just intelligent. Make sure you know the requirements, age, marriage requirements, debts, all of it. They scrutinize in the pilot program for the air force. Make sure your physically right, your vision will be a factor. Just know it's not for the soft hearted
Are certain majors chosen over others. I am currently majoring in Sport Management, but would love to apply for OTS as soon as I am done in college. Thank you.
Not necessarily chosen over others, but valued over others. There is no denying, the Air Force loves "Hard" or "Hard Science" degrees. Most of the "Rated" jobs or jobs where you have to do more testing in addition to the testing all Airmen take typically require a hard science degree. However, these are typically more demanding mentally and physically along with you not typically working a shift. You'll typically work 9-5 or 8-4p in most rated jobs. However, it depends on what the Airforce needs as well. If the Air Force needs to fill spots for security forces per se, and one guy has a degree in Criminal Justice and the other in English. The English major isn't down and out, but the CJ major will get a little bit more of an edge. However, the CJ major may have bad finances, and can't get a security clearance to guard a Lane Bryant store and the English Major has 0 debt. Well, the English major is definitely moving above you. However, if you have a degree in meteorology, Computer Science, IT. Aeuronotics, Aviation, Maintenance or something like that the Air Force definitely sits up for degrees like that, or specialty degrees like JD, MD, Nursing, this is why these specialty degrees will wave you in up to 42 yrs old. You can never have enough of these.
I am 25 and I'm actually thinking of going with the OTS after my Master's in International Finance. Your videos are helping a ton!
To quote President J.F.K. "it's not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country." Truer words have never been spoken.
Many people have forgotten that, especially in this current climate.
Thank you for these videos! I’m considering talking to a recruiter and applying to OTS in the future. I appreciate the insight; it’s really helpful.
My pleasure and thank you! Glad it helped!
This was so helpful! I’m beginning the process to join the Air Guard as an officer. Thank you again & wishing you all the best.
Good to see you're still uploading, Lt. Thanks for the info!
No problem! Trying to upload more!
