Alivio RD-3100 sgs : fit & remove (Joe Public style)

my knowledge 3/10.
Shimano Alivio rd-3100 rear derailleur : I remove then fit .
bike : 2 x 9 speed ... front derailleur 34-50 : rear cassette 11 - 42
Make a bit of a mess of it but you get the idea.
Alivio rd3100 is Shimano's latest Alivio range (began 2020).
I guess it will be superceded by the new Shimano Cues.
Shimano is 'retiring' most lower 'brands' for CUES (?)
mtb : Altus, Acera, Alivio
road : Claris, Sora, Tiagra
Alivio is for 9 speeds (up to front triple ring ... so max is 9 x 3)
official rear max cog is 36 (mines works with 42)
cost : £14 ? (Ali Express sep23)

Thanks for the detailed view, I thought I was going crazy. The cable entry point of the Alivio is different that other/older Shimano models. At first I thought the unit that I received was a manufacturing flaw but it is the new "shadow" design. The problem I have is that for bikes that have cable routed via lower chain stay, which most bikes have, the cables angle for entry through adjusting barrel seems compromised and therefore the bend radius seems inadequate. Trimming the sheath tubing so that it is a shorter run, like in this vid seems the only solution, but the entry through the adjusting barrel seems far too shallow and a recipe for poor shifting. Thanks Shimano :(
