Please let me know what you think of this format - this was originally live streamed, and I’ve edited out all notifications to make it less intrusive for playback.
I personally enjoy doing rags to riches in The Sims 3. There's something about being able to just hang around wherever you want that makes it feel more realistic.
in sanmishuno there is this guy thats in on of the "park" "festival" arias that's dressed in an all gold costume and does this statue thing if you do certain interactions with him you can unlock the gold costume for your sim to be able to the statue thing for tips
'problem with that though is it only unlocks if you tip $15 or so. Plus there's a rule that you can't change clothes because realistically homeless people can't regularly wash and change outfits, or afford body paint and costumes.
Enter a karaoke contest, which realistically *anyone* can do. Even if you lose it's worth a try. I think it's Tuesday, Sunday, and Thursday from 8-11 pm, that you can enter the contest. This can help buy your flea market table.
You can paint at the Romance Festival and sell your paintings there too. You can busk in the city and get tips from painting graffiti. You can also get money by winning karaoke contests
Love this one! I tried this out myself and didn't allow my Sim to change neighbourhoods unless someone invited him (as in, offered him a lift to an event :P) then he had to stay there until he either had some money or someone else invited him out. Ended up stuck in San Myshuno for a week until the Flea Market came around and could sell some collectibles! Had enough money to head home, buy his own "hawker" table and a bed and now the adventure continues!
You can subtract money when you travel. When you travel to other worlds subtract $20 (greyhound ticket) and -$1 or $2 when you go to other neighborhoods (normal bus ticket)
The only collectables you cant sell at the flea market is pictures from space, micro pictures, pictures of food, pictures in general, and the feathers. the only Wall thing you can sell are paintings on the street gallery thing. You can sell Fish and gardening stuff on the come and get it street store. there isnt anything you cannot not sell on the come and get it street store then the things i mention above.
Except that currently the store table (Come and Get It Street Store) was broken badly in the last patch: if you throw a yard sale or stock the open table at the Flea Market, other sims will show up, but nobody will ever buy anything. Maybe the next patch will fix it, but for the moment there's no way to sell things to other people without owning a retail lot. Which pretty much means that poor Harvey is going to be on the streets forever, with an inventory full of junk he can't sell but is still going to get billed for. Poor guy.
General Disclosure yeah, I set items on the selling table at the festival and nothing sold and noticed the sim vendor next to me didn’t sell anything either! Grrrr
Lol I just tested what items went on the come and get it table. I didn't test if it works. Damn I really would like it to work I wanted to start integrating it into my gameplay
Unmounted fish can be sold on the flea market table. Just dead fish laying there on the table. I don't believe the mounted ones can be sold on the table or the art wall. You can sell harvested produce on the flea market table as well. This seems fun but definitely extreme. Skillful editing - I was worried a stream condensed to 20 minutes would have tons of choppy jump cuts but you actually made it almost seamless and it was very enjoyable to watch. Thanks and good job!
You can perform comedy or sing for tips at the microphone at the humour and highjinks festival. I think that should be allowed as part of the challenge because it's an open air event without security, there would be nothing to stop anyone having a go. You could build up your singing skill before the festival and then perform there. People might realistically tip you at an event like that, even if you look homeless. Like wow that guy is stinky but he sure can sing!
Just FYI there’s a place in my game (that may or may not be glitched?) in the very top lot of Newcrest that for WHATEVER REASON people are /constantly/ grilling behind the house, and all three picnic tables are now totally full
It's against the rules to just use a computer in the library or any other public space. And so is just publishing a book, we must sell our items directly to other Sims that we can see, or accept tips from Sims that we can see. Hence the EXTREME edition
I'm new to your channel and absolutely love this! I was bingewatching your Max Power Parenthood series while you streamed this, so editing ti for UA-cam was a brilliant idea.
Do you have to wait for the garden at Oasis Springs and Newcrest to grow in? If not those places would be good for produce. Also, idk if its cheating (probably so) but you can get free chips from a bar.
I think it would, because like he said with the microphone, you wouldn't be allowed to get in to a club if you're a homeless person and don't look "put together".
You know what would be extra EXTREME?! If the guy was a vampire so he could only go out for certain periods of time... Also painful but this is the guy that builds 3x3 houses, of there's anyone that could do it it's gonna be James.
I hope James returns to the idea of an extreme rags to riches with the new cottage living pack coming out. We have off the grid now (I can't remember if we did when this was new) and with the non-automically refilling fridge, the challenge could be even more difficult
Warning to everyone starting this: this series is not complete and end at episode 11. Thats when he finaly has enough money to buy a resturant and it stops. Very very disapointing!
THANK YOU! For cutting it so that it's not like watching a stream. I really dislike watching streams because people get so distracted saying hi and welcome and whatnot to their viewers and are less focused on what they're doing. You'll reach broader audience like this. I'm definitely gonna watch this now 💖

Watching you play sims is more entertaining than watching myself play sims. From my severely lazy sims addict ass, THANK YOU
You should do the runaway Teen challenge! :D The Rules: You cannot build any kind of shelter for yourself until you have earned the simoleans to do so.You cannot have any electronics or appliances or cell phone access (put it on silent) until you have a home. (At least 1 kitchen, 1 bath and 1 bedroom)You can’t have a part-time job. You can’t have a full-time job when you are a young adult until you have a home. (At least 1 kitchen, 1 bath and 1 bedroom)You cannot cook/shower/etc on other people’s lots or interact with adults until you are a young adult. You’re a runaway they’ll report you as such. If your social meter gets low, you can interact with children or other teens. You can shower and use the bathroom at any public place like the gym.You can fish, garden and dig all you want and sell them. You can’t go to school. You have to cancel go to school each day. This will not affect traits. Each time you travel you subtract $10 simoleans from your funds using the money cheat. You can not talk to adults while you are a teen (as they might tell someone where you are) :D
This sounds like a fantastic challenge. It was you who inspired me to do more Rags to Riches challenges (I enjoy designing homes and sims, but the gameplay was usually boring for me). I love the fact that you can't just sell to "invisible people." Props to the person who made the challenge, and I can't wait to see what you do!
I don't know if this will count like the instruments and the microphone, but you can go to the Library write books. Usually public libraries do have computers for anyone to use and anyone can go in, there's no dress code or anything (irl that is).
YAY thanks for uploading this! I didn't have time to watch the stream! The format is perfect, we see you play without the intrusive comments although you still got the feedback. Great :)
Really enjoyed the stream but love the way you’ve edited this! Especially that those notifications are gone, I jumped every time until you turned them down 😂 keep up the great vids! 😊
YES!! I am so happy you are adding this to youtube because I was there for your stream but it was near my bed time when it started Q.Q I'm glad I can see it here. THANK YOU!!!!
This is great! My favorite part of Rags to Riches is always the beginning when they are struggling to get by and this is going to make the best part last much longer. It's going to be interesting to see how long it takes you to be able to afford every little thing!
Adopt a stray and teach them tricks, you can earn money by performing tricks with them on public lots just like you can earn money by playing an instrument! Loving this new challenge 😁
Wow -- A) I wasn't expecting you to actually do this challenge, and B) I didn't expect you to do it as a streaming challenge! It's pretty cool, though -- I like that you're willing to stretch yourself, challenge-wise. Poor Harvey, though -- having to rely on the forgetfulness of strangers and uncomfortable park benches to live. Hopefully the next episode provides him with some produce he can harvest for his own!
Oh man, this is going to end so badly for Harvey: the flea market table was broken in the last patch (customers will show up and talk but will never buy anything), so literally the *only* way you can sell items directly to other sims without having a retail lot isn't working! He's never getting off the streets! Anyway, about singing: it's worth having Harvey practice it anyway, just because it's *fun* to sing (more fun than reading books at the library or playing chess at the park!), and it trains a skill that might get him some money later on. Do a little cloud-gazing to get Inspired and then belt out a tune or two, Harvey, it's the only escape you'll have from your miserable existence for a long time.
Not sure how I'm JUST seeing this now, but this is amazing, starting my first rags to riches challenge anyways, gonna go extreme. Looking forward to marathoning the rest of this series :D
Haven't watched this all yet but you could paint, get the large wall table and then sell your paintings at a street sale. Mark up the prices by 300% and you'll make some decent money. However, you'll get rich pretty quick when your painting level is high. So if you do that...maybe only do it at flea market times? Edit - after watching this and starting one of my own I decided that since selling paintings marked up at a street sale would be way too easy...i have set a limitation for myself of one painting per week. I've set aside one Sim day each week to go to the Art Gallery in the city to paint a painting. For RP purposes, its "art class". The price you pay to paint is the price for the level of class you're taking. I'll sell the paintings when I get my wall table and do street sales. Not marking up prices either. Leaving them at 100% to make it more difficult. Tip - the big park in the city is wonderful for fun, food and all the rest of your needs! 2nd Edit - Welp, can confirm tables are broken. I competed in the Humor and Hijinks Festival and won $500. Bought a table...have spent 3 Sim days trying to sell to no avail. >_< That stinks!
This is a nice challenge. Might I suggest the "club house" next to the observatory in San Myshuno. You can literally live there and cook fish you catch in the kitchen. You can even take a bath on the upper floor.
I’m sure it took forever to edit and I really enjoyed it. I watched the original stream and it was hilarious but the notifications did get a little annoying. Either way I’m super excited to keep watching this series!!
I think this is better than any other rags to riches series that you've recorded so far for the simple reason of there being live feedback. I always get so frustrated when I have to yell at the screen because you miss things and now the twitch chat is doing it for me... also - I tried this challenge and quit after a day... with the flea market and selling table not working it was so hard !!!
I've started playing 'rags to riches' ever since I started watching your videos. I find that game play is a lot more enjoyable with that sort of challenge... Definitely going to have to do it "EXTREME!" now.
This is a good challenge, but you won't be able to sell collectables easily until the bugged street store table is fixed (bug report filed here: answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-CL-Yard-Sales-not-working-anymore/td-p/6405452 ). Until then, I suggest staying in one area long enough for wild harvestables to mature, then start a garden so you have a regular source of food to eat. There are community gardens in several neighborhoods with plants that mature in 1-2 days; you won't starve within that time period. If you stay in Windenburg you can use bushes for napping and relieving yourself. ETA: Also, extract the fossils from the limestone you've collected. They will almost certainly be worth more than the limestone itself once you can sell collectables.
You need to tip the statue in order to get the costume to become a statue yourself. So starting from nothing you couldn't do that, you'd have to get money from somewhere else first, or cheat slightly by tipping the statue before you deleted the rest of the money.
People won't tip you for performing music until your skill is quite high, so it would take a long time to get that money and if your singing skill is high enough to sing for tips why bother with the statue thing when you could just sing?
Lmao i can't wait for this series to develop 🤣🤣lmao and I haven't watched it yet back at it again with the rags to riches yass James Currently binge watching dine out just finished binging on wags to riches love ur channel James come back to London
this is actually the only way i am playing sims since i watched this some time last year or even 2018 ^^ starting from nothing. using the selling table at some point, buying a tent and stuff... best gameplay, never gets boring.
It always seems weird to me that you never switch Aspirations, especially when you're doing a long stream like this one. If you swapped to aspirations that matched what you were currently doing (Fishing when you're fishing, Collector when you're digging up stuff, etc.), you could stockpile enough points to get some worthwhile rewards like Steel Bladder or whatever.
Fun fact: i think it is easy to entirely survive with all your needs high at Willow Creek Park Hunger: Get water option from sink (I think this works if not then you could just get water from the nightclub) Bladder: Toilet Energy: Bench Fun: Chess Social: meeting and talking to Sims Hygiene: brushing teeth at Sink
What I've learned is I never have to bath again....as long as I brush my teeth and wash my hands 10 times a day. Who says The Sims doesn't provide useful real world advice?
Please let me know what you think of this format - this was originally live streamed, and I’ve edited out all notifications to make it less intrusive for playback.
This is great espescially if you missed part of the stream or all of it its harder to rewatch.
poor you, this must've taken a shitton of time, haha
It's great
@Marine Drille - Was fun though, and if people end up liking the way it's done, it's worth it too :)
Thank you James for putting so much effort in your videos! Keep on going dad! :P

Why is stealing against the rules. How is that "unrealistic" 😂
Especially since they are allowed to do some fishing but who the heck is poor and homeless and has a fishing rod...
You can't expect even close to retail value for stolen items. You should get 75% less money, it's way too easy with stealing.
That will defeat the purpose of the hard challenge because the game have no cops .. so it’ll be like getting month free so it’s a cheat .

I’m sure it took forever to edit and I really enjoyed it. I watched the original stream and it was hilarious but the notifications did get a little annoying. Either way I’m super excited to keep watching this series!!
You have maxed out your patience skill. Well done not being sarcastic or ignoring repetitive people.
From almost 5hour long stream to 20 mins. Must've cut out the ordering food part.. hahaha
Hahah, it's not the whole stream to 20 minutes, just a portion of it!
The Sim Supply Oops sorry hehehe
When will you post the rest?
So glad youre uploading this! I only caught half of the livestream
RAGS TO RICHES EXTREME, is awesome! I love this idea and James you make the RtR LPs so much fun! I can't wait until the next episode!
I missed the rules in the stream so I'm glad you uploaded it! Editing out the notifications was a super good idea
I've started playing 'rags to riches' ever since I started watching your videos. I find that game play is a lot more enjoyable with that sort of challenge...
Definitely going to have to do it "EXTREME!" now.
this is actually really cool, more please
it’s funny that I watched the stream and now i’m watching it again and probably going to watch it again in an hour 😂🤫
I'm so excited that you uploaded this! I'm loving it!! ❤️
I want mooooore! Wasn’t able to catch the stream but i really wanted to! This is perfect for binge-watching 😍
I’m watching this at 2am and I haven’t watched the sims in ages and I forgot how relaxing it was
I love how fast he talks lmaooo sometimes I have to rewind the vid just to try and understand 😂😂❤️❤️❤️
You should try doing the statue thing in City Living. Where you dress in those gold outfits and perform, i think you can get tips right?
You need to tip the statue in order to get the costume to become a statue yourself. So starting from nothing you couldn't do that, you'd have to get money from somewhere else first, or cheat slightly by tipping the statue before you deleted the rest of the money.
People won't tip you for performing music until your skill is quite high, so it would take a long time to get that money and if your singing skill is high enough to sing for tips why bother with the statue thing when you could just sing?
I saw this and stayed up all night watching
I love how calm you keep when answering the same question over and over 😂😂😍😘
Lmao i can't wait for this series to develop 🤣🤣lmao and I haven't watched it yet back at it again with the rags to riches yass James
Currently binge watching dine out just finished binging on wags to riches love ur channel James come back to London
im overwhelmed watching this, cats and dogs, and little and sir's rags to riches 💀😂
I just love your videos. I can't afford this game anymore so I love watching you playing it.
I loved this episode so much and I’m so happy there to rags to riches series at once 😊 I hope u continue this
Yes, been waiting for your update. Your videos made me laugh when I was down 😊😂
this is actually the only way i am playing sims since i watched this some time last year or even 2018 ^^ starting from nothing. using the selling table at some point, buying a tent and stuff... best gameplay, never gets boring.
LOVE IT! Glad you posted it here on UA-cam coz I couldn't watch the stream with my Internet speed
Fun fact: i think it is easy to entirely survive with all your needs high at Willow Creek Park
Hunger: Get water option from sink (I think this works if not then you could just get water from the nightclub)
Bladder: Toilet
Energy: Bench
Fun: Chess
Social: meeting and talking to Sims
Hygiene: brushing teeth at Sink
LOVE THE SOUND OF THIS!! I'll be watching and attempting this challenge myself!
What I've learned is I never have to bath again....as long as I brush my teeth and wash my hands 10 times a day. Who says The Sims doesn't provide useful real world advice?
I love this Extreme Challenge! More installment videos of this playlist please! Here's a like for you. Cheers!
I watched the stream, and I’ll watch it on youtube, I can never get enough James!
