The THz field is detected via Electro-optic (EO) sampling in a GaP crystal (DelMar Photonics Inc.) using a small percentage of the output of the ultrafastamplifier at 800 nm that is not used to seed the OPA. This crystal is different fromthe one used by Allodi et al.16in that it has a thin EO active layer optically con-tacted to a thicker inactive layer. Specifically, a GaP (110) layer 200 mm thick, andcapable of EO sampling, is optically contacted to a GaP (100) layer 4 mm thick thatis EO inactive. This provides the advantage of pushing etalon features, or recur-rences of the pulse in the time domain, outside the window being scanned.
