- 20 years, 14 events, 9 winners. Who would have thought 20 years ago, that Red Bull Rampage could have brought freeride MTB this far!? 🌎
The inaugural Red Bull Rampage was held in 2001. Twenty years and nine different winners later, we celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary by looking back at some of the biggest moments.
With support from the Utah Sports Commission, we return to desert sands of Virgin, Utah this October 15 to determine who will take the most desired crown in MTB.

considering that the 2013 backflip over the canyon from kelly mcgarry is one of the most clicked videos on gopro, I am super disappointed that there is no footage of it in this video or even some footage of mcgarry
Yeah me too
Man I went foward and backwards just to look for it, what a fail…
Was gonna say the same thing. You can't make this video without it.
I'm going to chalk it up to some corporate schmuck thinking it's too much of a downer to talk about someone who died. The canyon gap flip is the epitome of rampage.
@@jophusxakc3192 isn't it kind of strange that pretty much ever* comment with a few likes got a like from redbull but mine with the most not? I think you're right
2:32 Josh "Sender" Bender massive crash. I couldn't believe my eyes when he get up after this.
Hard. CORE.
I remember watching that crash too and not believing it when he stood up straight away. Im pretty sure its because he trained like a marine and had crazy physical strength. A true MTB legend
Hes really bulky when he stands up- at first I thought it was a crap ton of hockey pads. No. Its sheer muscle.
i was just like when is he gonna hit the ground
my jah dropped again
the video is nice.
but where is kelly mcgarry?
legends never die
Rampage changed the world of downhill and freeride forever. What was possible elevated in 2001. One of the best sports in the world.
Josh bender did not rampage it was his dream and idea redbull just had the cash and scope
The progression of riding has been insane! 🚀
And bikes
@@carbonara7246 yes, very differently! 😂
I'm looking forward to brage vestavik this year, I totally hope he give us a nice show
I think most people are. He is a refreshing young rider. But also a BEAST!!
Possibly the first Viking at Rampage 🤔
He was a monster at hardline, can't wait for it🤘
@@RedBullBike Emil was firster :)
:(
If this gets cancelled just like Speed and Style on Tuesday imma be soooo mad
Yeah, that’s why I didn’t drive down there this year.
where is Kelly McGarry?
I have the last bike he rode here in 2015, gutted not to see a proper feature on him.
Semenuk's flip to pad to drop might be the gnarliest thing done... That said, I love the way Andreu rides that terrain. Some of his lines are a little smoothed out but it's because he rides so fast and aggressively.
Andrew is a madman Riding rampage like a World Cup I don’t know how he does it every year I would like to see him on an actual World Cup for one year I reckon he will be in the top 10
It’s all subjective, everything done at rampage was gnarly for the time in which it was done 🤘🏼
What is your favourite moment of the past 20 years
@@ashleytombs tough to narrow down to just one moment but Mcgazza flipping the canyon gap certainly is right up there
@@ashleytombs I'm very biased, of course, but Andreu's 2019 run where his line is just so fast he gets off line and is literally... Starting to drift off the side of a cliff. Muscles his bike back on to his line and just keeps riding like he didn't just have a near death experience. I won't say he would have won if he didn't crash the last jump... But... I think his style of riding is pretty honest to Rampage. I don't like the slopestyle trick jumps at the end. And I don't want the wooden cam zink features at rampage. Just raw, fast, aggressive riding.
Cam Zink hasn't aged a day in the last 20 years. He still looks 40.
Come on people that made this!
The disrespect to Kelly McGarry🤯
That backflip over the 72 foot gap. Iconic.
I hope Kyle Strait keeps doing Rampage til he's 50s.
To see how every rider changed through the years is incredible
Bender's fall was freaking BRUTAL. What a maniac
What a legend!
Bender Is God!
Early Rampage tagline: Mad Men on tiny bikes doing wild stuff
Where is Kelly McGarry's 72ft canyon gap backflip?
Rooting for Brage Vestavik this year. First appearance for him.
Red Bull Rampage is without question the gnarliest event in all of action sports. Snowboarding and kiing freeride world tour is the only thing that gets close, but there's nothing quite like Rampage. Super stoked for this years event.
I have been watching it since 2004 and it is awesome to see what the guys did back then with the bikes they had. Watching it today it is still more awesome to see what progression, what evolution happened in the last years. Awesome can't describe what these guys are doing.
I've been to the original rampage site (tame by today's course) and GoPro footage cannot begin to show the size, steepness and exposure these guys are riding.
Seeing it in real life adds a whole new level of appreciation. 👀
.....didnt hear one word about McGazza. Shure, he never was the winner but sorry RB, that´s not fair. Sad about that. R.I.P.
Would you offer a tribute episode, to the acknowledgement of the heroes that were severily injured?
no tribute to mcgazza or jordie, bad move there redbull
I just made a history of rampage video and I wish my video came out as sick as this!
MTB is the greatest sport and Rampage is a huge piece of it.
No mention of Kelly, bit of a miss, R.I.P.
Always watching from Philippines👍❤
astig nang Redbull rampage boss noh
20 years of Downhill/ Freeride & out & out outrageousnes. Where is Kelly McGarrys backflip from 2013 ? Bring on 2022.
can i ask what is more difficult? and more dangerous Redbull Rampage or Hardline? thanks
Rampage is 100x gnarlier than Hardline
Wow! amazing world of bikes👍👍
I think it's become to manicured and slopestyle ish and needs to return to the freeriding roots
WHERE IS BIZET
So crazy they do this in my state.
So sick!!!
Super T!!!!!
He was my hero!!!
I'm still disappointed Brendog didn't win in 2019 with that sick canyon gap flip.
6:11 still for me one of the gnarliest lines ever to be built at Rampage.
hey redbull , i am a biker looking for a sponsor . can you help ?
where was gazzas canyon gap flip??
Everyone hit the drops so slow back in the day haha. Not to mention those super RAW landings
The camera change from 2002 to 2003 tho
Early 2000s fashion is unmatched
It’s so cool too see not just how far the sorts come but also the bikes
I’m 54 and love this stuff all the way back, but my “progression’ is keeping what I got!!!! You’ll see kids
Kelly Mcgarry backflip?
Not one clip of mcgazza 🤬
Brandon Semenuk is the GOAT of big mountain riding.
I told you so.
Like si eres de Costa Rica
Darren Bearclaw. A true hero in this sport. Thank you
No Kelly McGarry?
Dudes u were so young but still rocking the desert.
Big respect!🤘
Norbs got robbed.
norbs got robbed
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
At 8 min it’s not Pierre Édouard Ferry
It’s Vinny T !😅😂😂
LETS GO!
My big dream
My favorite thing about October is RAMPAGE
абсолютная элита
Rampage sucks. It's completely antithetical to the spirit of freeride MTBing. Wade Simmons started the very first freeride mtb team on Rocky Mountain bikes in the late 90s because he and other riders were tired of the competitive nature of downhill. It's just Red Bull showcasing it so they can make more money and sell more of their disgusting drink. Pretty soon, if not already, it'll be ice skating with body armor.
Thanks for this awesome vidéo
I don't know if it's the geometry of new bikes, but I notice when they land on the more recent years it's more clean where as prior to 2010 it was rough sketchy landings.
Damn, the vintage top of the line downhill bikes looks amazing, I'd love to have a few of those in my collection :) Thanks so much for this amazing footage!
"SOSOW" Slab-O-Steel On Wheels
lol. how prescient is the commentary at ~3:30. thats exactly what the event has become. couple of drops at the top then just a slopestyle course. its no longer a true free-riding event.
Im late 20 years. This year i start to ride mtb with my marin bobcat but saving my money to buy marin rift zone.
They really did Josh Bender dirty with this one, not a single mention despite the fact it might not even exist without him...
So Redbull, when will we see the women get a shot? 20 years later and still no ladies. WTF?
too bad brett rheeder wont be competing, would have been a nice rivalry between brett rheeder and brandon semenuk
amazing but why did it stop being freeride?
How is josh bender in the 2004 one still walking
I hope Brendog is fit to ride his line is one of the best use of the natural features which was the start of rampage 🤘
He's out.
someone knows the song for 2018? its super good!
20 years of shaping the canyon
3:48 Donald Trump announcing??
Waiting for the Rampage!
Dude, You haven't even mentioned Paul basagoitia... This is the best champion for me. I'm French, and this man is incredible. This is the best champion, best rider. 🤟🔥
@1:07 Yeah buddy!
My top five of rampag over the last 20 years number-one has got to be Josh bender Number 2 has to be Cam zinc 360 drop Number 3 is Brendan Fairclough for that massive 50ft canyon flip Number 4 is Brendon semenuk for being himself and number 5 is Andreu lacondeguy because he ride rampage like a World Cup track which is crazy
man. too many moments to count.. (Gee's transfer and McGazza's canyon flip comes to mind) every year something happens that makes you go, "did that just happen?" This is the best action event in sports.
Amazing review. Thank you for that. Super excited it's back this year. What an incredible event.
Cam Zink is incredible
Some hard landing's on the early years bikes of rampage glad we've got good suspension nowdays
Rampage and Crankworx in the same month. This is too good! I wonder where Emil will come out standing at Rampage this year?
REMEMBER THANK JOSH BENDER
mtb guys the first few years: hold my beer
red bull adding massive jumps: let me hold your beer
how come there are no women?
Mental how much it has progressed since 2000. Watching Gracia and co was unreal as a kid.
You guys should start a rampage in Arizona, Sedona! It would be cool to see one here!
Insane!
TE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH
love mtb flashbacks. Bender forever
soo good to see the progression of this event. Everyone should see these clips from the first years of the event just to really put into perspective how insane these guys are and continue to be
Semenuk is just next level. Loved watching the first round though, it's so old school now but cutting edge at the time
Cool, very cool!
Cool! Thanks!
That absolute sender of a gap at 2:24 is still so gnarly to this day.
💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤘💪
Thank you!
2:33 OUCH!!!
Three words: I CAN'T WAIT!
