It's kinda funny thinking about this, but this song was the first i had ever listened to of AFI, that made me into a fan. I still remember how i first came across that video. I was watching a beavis and butthead vhs recording on my vcr and this song suddenly popped on in the middle of not only the episode i watched, but also in the middle of the song. By the time the song ended it popped right back onto beavis and butthead, the year at the time of my first seeing it was between 2006 and 2009
longtime afi fan here - honestly I've always found this video a little bit comical. I guess it feels a little dated even though it's not ---that--- old (well, that's what I'm telling myself,
Wait he set them up? I was under the impression he just changed his mind and was either supposed too be too far away or to preoccupied to notice the exploded car behind him.
@@KIRA-EL He did change his mind. It's a sister song to "Narrative of Soul Against Soul". The video is just a hell of melodramatic way to illustrate that "your weakness kills everyone" line from that song. Like, not only should you not kill yourself but even getting close to it hurts everyone around you, you weak bitch. It's kind of a gross moral tbh but part of Davey's charm is being kind of a self-righteous douche lmao. "Look, you wanted to kill yourself and now your friends exploded and you didn't even do it, you fuck. How dare you even entertain those feelings when you can channel your sadness into lifting weights and eating tofu and hanging out with your celebrity musician friends"
Although, considering there's a big splash in the water that isn't accounted for (it's not the coat, since he puts it back on) I think there's mean to be some ambiguity implying that he did kill himself and is a ghost or whatever. I wouldn't even be surprised if some early concepts of this video had him jumping in and hitting the water, but they were unable to get the budget and permits or whatever to do it convincingly.
@@KIRA-EL I don't know, there's just something about his face and the way the scenes are framed that it -seems- to me like he set them up. It doesn't make sense that he would have done that, but that's just the vibe I get lmao
