It is true. People in Germany usually only know low quality Deglet Noor dates. Many do not like Deglet Noors but do not know that there are other varieties. When I offer them a medjool date the usually ask If they can have some more :-)

The biggest difference is moist vs dry. Night and day. Big grocery stores sell only dry dates.
