  • Sri Mookambika Devi Mahatme:
A sacred tale of Devi Sri Mookambika and Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
Once, the Guru Adi Shankaracharya traveled through the Malayalam speaking lands, which is now known as Kerala. As he traveled through the lands of beautiful landscapes , mountains rivers and seashore, he bowed downed the God Padmanabha swamy, Lord shiva and Guruvayoor Appa, Sri krishna, present at Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Guruvayoor respectively.
He then began to travel towards the regions of kannada speaking land. amongst lush green forest lands, a thought that struck his mind, which led to the creation of the beautiful Mookambika temple at Kolluru today.
He thought to himself, why there was no temple dedicated or built in worship of devi in any part of the Malayalam lands. He began to think and decided and performed a great penance to bring the devi to the Malayalam land.
Few days after the commencement of the penance , Devi appeared before Shankaracharya and asked him for the reason for great penance. Knowing the reason for his tapasya, devi agreed to come with Adi Shankaracharya to stay in Malayalam lands and bless the devotees of the regions.
But, not everything went as easy as it sounds, Devi put forward conditions to Adi Shankaracharya.
I will follow you and you should walk before me.
You will never turn back before the destination is reached.
Agreeing to the conditions of the Goddess, Shankaracharya began to walk forward, while Devi walked behind and traced the path of Adi Shankaracharya. The sound of the anklets of the devi was the only sign for Acharya as a symbol of confirmation of devi walking behind him.
As they both climbed down through the foothills of Kodachadri.
The sounds of the anklets stopped, and Adi Shankaracharya began to worry.
Did Adi Shankaraya turn back? Did he break his promise made to the goddess. Witness the beautiful tale of the sacred temple.
