Omnisphere is indeed overrated. Half of the patches in it are unusable in anything other than experimental or film scoring. The hardware patches are ok, but I can find better ones from Arturia. And the others (which are very few) is somewhat good.
I tried Omnisphere and didn't see the need to get it.

I think people like omnisphere due to the size of the library not the quality of individual presets. It's easier and less expensive to manage a single plugin like omnisphere vs. having 100 kontakt libraries. However, if there is a bigger/better sample based library vsti I'd love to know.

Everyone sleeps on the fact that Omnisphere is absurdly powerful for sound design. The amount of modulation, the number of different filters, and the customization of those filters (configurable in series or in parallel), the frequency modulation/ring/granular sections, and added to that the sound quality of each individual oscillator. Not only that, you can stack up to 8 different patches into one instance. Mix that in with the fact that you can use samples for synthesis as well, AND hardware integration if you have analog modern synths. For a professional music producer interested in sound design it's a ridiculously great value. That said, if you only care about presets then sure I can see how it's overrated.

Why is Omnisphere 620usd? And Spectrasonics has never had a sale and never will. Not a good company. Just hyped up by the hip hop community, Keyspace sounds horrible compared to the 3 Kontakt Piano's actually that sound real. More people should be calling out Spectrasonics for not having sales. Trillian, Keyscape and Omnisphere have never gone on sale even once yet. And they are becoming outdated now. I wouldn't use them personally and will never purchase them.

Omnisphere is actually pretty stellar. For one thing, there is a kind of integration that is possible with other Spectrasonics programs that is fairly amazing. The way this can connect with Keyscape and Trilian, plus the "Sonic Extensions"... is an amazing amount of power. It's not inexpensive stuff, but it is packed with versatility that's quite deep.
All that being said, it is not for everyone. Those who can afford Omnisphere and all the Spectrasonics products that integrate with it ... and also own other synths and VSTi's, likely understand exactly how/why Omnisphere will serve them best. Really, there is nothing else like it out there.

I've owned Omni for years and I do use it quite often, my biggest issue with it is the UI though. I think it is super ugly and unintuitive. It is an absolute powerhouse once you know how to use it properly, but it kinda does things its own way for the sake of doing things its own way, and conceals a lot of its features behind strange tabs and stuff rather than make it all accessible,

music theory isn't even a set of guidelines, it's literally just a way of analyzing music. like if you want to make pop music, you can use it to find out what the general conventions of pop music are, and you can follow them. but it's not saying that you have to or should do anything. if it's limiting you, then that's because you're letting it limit you

I'm a Omni user for > 10 years... it has a great UI and amazing layering features. If you are into sound design, it is def. a great synth. I find it as easy to design sounds from scratch as with Serum, but you get 100 more features. The patches are very well usable for scoring, film, chillout, ambient out of the box. But you get GB of highest quality samples in there to build sounds from samples. Thats a pretty cool and handy thing. The FX in Omni is amazing too, compared to other Synth fx algos... well, so, if I want some standard stuff, I go for Serum or Spire or Sylenth1, but if I need something unique, original, with great depth that cuts thru, I design with Omni and it nevef disappoints. Also, I got a huge Update for free Omni 2 to Omni 2.5. Its a very fair business model. Omni is also good for stage use as you can overlay layers for a piano per range/section etc.

But if you enjoy the aspects of sound design Omnisphere is a power house especially for people who do more Movie and TV etc etc, So while i get beat making caused the presets to be a bit overrated i for sure recommend you put a day or 2 a side every week or so and dabble with using your own samples even it can get crazy pretty fast man. Phase shift on the master mix buss wont cause any issues because it shifts the phase equally for each component of the audio. So it can't cause any phase cancellation.
Phase issues arise when phase shifts happen on a per-track basis, this can cause cancelling between the tracks.
Like you might have a bass and kick drum that are sitting together really tight. And applying EQ(or whatever) to one track may create some phase cancellation that wasnt there before. Which can fuck up your low end. (thats just the most obvious example)

Omnisphere is black and white. Either it has these incredible sounds that sound as good as hardware, but there are so many 'filler' presets which are just useless. I've spent days going through thousands of presets and favouriting only 75, with only 30 with a 5 star rating. Also, some packs are just terrible, total rip off. But I'd say Keyscape is pretty much on par as one of the best piano and Rhodes plugins on the market. The only issue is very high CPU usage with some patches. One great bass patch will have barely any CPU, then I found this amazing soaring lead patch, but It's so multilayered (Clearly a lot of effort was put in), if I play 4 notes it uses 30% of my i9 MBP in Ableton. Even one note will end a session. Thank God that Ableton 11 can multithread Omnisphere, it can't do a lot of other big name plugins, so my Mac Studio is great. Finally, the main issue with Omnisphere is the price. At least upgrades are free and really good. If you get it plus Keyscape and some great sound packs you're looking at $800.

If you’re kick is “proper,” and a relatively “normal” pitch, the transient should be short enough that tuning is bordering irrelevant. There are instances, but in the majority of musical scenarios, it isn’t going to matter all that much. If you’re in the same key relative interval, you can move on. You should be more concerned with the decay time of your kick’s sub-frequencies. If the transient is too short to push your side chains, you can always copy a pattern and create a dummy chain to control sidechain event timings. Edit to say, ProQ protected my family from an oncoming attack of locust and saved the Fall harvest.

on the whole low cutting thing, the power, weight and body of the sound lies in the lows. even if you can barely hear the impact the low cut is having, it's a cumulative reduction of weight. some genres want a clean sound, but don't high pass your distorted electric guitars, for instance. my rule of thumb, is high pass when things are muddy, and only until the muddiness is gone

Gain sidechain is only viable for simple kick patterns like four on the floor. If you're making trap or something it's not gonna work well for you. Much better to use automation if you have something more complex.

It sounds decent. The doink doink is an m-1 or d-50 preset with the key tapped twice (I forget which I used to have both of them and I get them confused) though. Regarding the first comment clippers and limiter aren’t the same thing limiters have a ratio of 20-50(which is why when you limit something sometimes the output will temp go over the thresh you set). Clippers have a ratio of INFINITY:1(which mean the output will never go over the thresh you set). Also compression(assuming your ratio is 10 or less) can’t reduce atk they ONLY shape it by that I mean if you have a TP of 0 and comp with the fastest atk/rel your TP will still be 0 assuming you level match no matter what thresh you set.
ONLY clippers and limiters can actually reduce your TP so the first comment is just straight up wrong. The reason why pretty much all master Eng use clipper is to reduce unneeded transient material while still maintaining the same rms limiters can do the same also but they WILL ALWAYS let some transient material through due to the small ratio amount.

@@Weaverbeats I agree with your take for upcoming producers, if you don't know how to fully take advantage of omnisphere and want to use it only for presets then it's definitely not the right plugin for you. However, if you love sound design, care about the quality of the oscillators (which in my opinion Omnisphere's sound amazing and has such a huge variety of options), and love different kinds of syntheses (Ring modulation, FM, Granular, and complex mod matrices) then I'd argue Omnisphere offers tremendous value. It can sound as good as analog synths, with so much more flexibility. That being said if you are currently not earning a living through music, it may be wiser to invest that money elsewhere for the time being. To me though, Omnisphere is my #1 production tool.

@@Weaverbeats I def meant preset lol. also I don't buy any software, so it's no need for me justify any purchases. No other synth can do what omni can in a single patch. 4 channels per patch and you can layer like 10 patches together in the multi browser and use 40 waveforms or samples at once, as a single sound. The granular synthesis is also the best I've used and I've been sound designing for over 15 years. You can also control omni with a hardware synth without any scripting. You can load keyscape in omni too, and then process the samples using all the omnisphere effects and modlutaions. You can't even come close to what omni can do in any other synth. Is it necessary? No. Is it overkill? Absolutely. It's still the best there is, tho.

Unpitched kick drums sound cheap. IDK why anyone would want to have the most important part of their drums be untuned. If you make your own kick drums you'll know immediately that pitching your kicks is super important for timbre, sound design, and cohesion in your mix. It's literally just another kind of skill issue, people don't know how important it is cause they just use presets.

I mean yeah I FL and Ableton do the exact same thing but both dolls have their advantages when it comes to a workflow of a certain genre I would say Ableton is better for Dub Step base house in any music that you will be making a lot of automation clips with due to the fact that when you create the automation clips it’s already in the playlist underneath the Sound of the pattern you’re trying to manipulate like for example FL studio is extremely annoying creating automation clips like literally I was getting kind of annoyed using it while making a base house track I’m doing because when you create a lot of automation clips it really helps a lot to stay organized but whenever I create my automation clips and I go to look for the automation clips in the playlist it’s Dr. off somewhere inside one of my truck group list and I normally Colabs those track group list so then I have to open up all my playlist groups define automation clip just a place it by the pattern or audio clip I am trying to automate it takes up time I want to take some time it takes up work it’s just annoying to happen to hunt them down and I would say FL studio is laid out better for quickly making a rap beat because you’re hot keys are more playlist pattern friendly And a couple other reasons I could list but this is already a long comment
