He's a character and I think that's something that is missing from the corporate world of professional motorsport - character.
Just professional sports in general!
Now, people argue about not having your womanisers anymore, but that is one character that is good to not have. But you don’t get the iconic rivalries, the polarising personalities and the like anymore. Shane, whilst not really polarising, has the most iconic modern rivalry with McLaughlin, is relatable to all the quiet kids in that he is rather quiet, and is the best at being the guy that everyone loves to watch for a burnout. And he is honestly just a great guy.

He is absolutely up there with Scotty on I ate skill, but just has a little bit of trouble interacting with fans. He’s not nearly as awkward as he once was, but he certainly doesn’t interact with fans as naturally as Scotty did.
As for entertainment. He has been Mr Entertainment since day 1, and it is part of why he does have such a large supporter base. His flamboyance and car control ability are second to none, and are exactly why he is entertaining. Not that he uses this as much today, as he has by far the smoothest, arguably most boring style on the grid, but that is what the best drivers do, they adapt their driving style to suit the machinery they have available, as well as to look after the car.

Had the pleasure of watching him compete in a D1NZ drift comp at Ruapuna some years ago, he's not the best drifter but he's still very entertaining to watch and a very skilled driver across a whole bunch of different disciplines
Came here after seeing the NASCAR Portland win to see if drifting was a trademark celebration, and sure, he's a drift king.
his burnout in Townsville in 2016 (I think it was) was better than most. had sparks coming off the rears, drifting around
Unfortunately this clip misses the best burnout of all. 2022 championship burnout will possibly never be beaten
