I'm not even planning to get it, but I’m always trying to learn more about tech from your channel! Looks like there are a bunch of new hardware add-ons, but they're still using the same sensor, huh? The cropping possibilities are interesting. That heat dissipation is definitely a big deal. I’m curious how other brands deal with that. Osmo Action 3 and 4 models have worked really well for me, so I’m just waiting on the 5 to see if it’s worth upgrading. I once recorded my ride for a bit over an hour straight, and it was rather impressive that it lasted so long before battery drained.
Great video👍. I bought a Gopro 13 black as a successor of my 7 black and am very happy with it. Reason to by the Gopro were: 1) Well working speech control; 2) GPS to show telemetry data in videos; 3) additional lenses; 4) bad experience with an overhyped camera from a competitor bought at the begin of year 2023, which performs in many cases worst than my Gopro 7, and for which I needed to buy expensive equipment to use it somehow as an action cam.
Great video. I have been using a GoPro since the Hero 10 came out and I still learned a few new tricks. You mentioned that when using a Bluetooth mic like the DJI Mic 2 you should record directly to the DJI Mic 2 and then synchronize this audio with the GoPro afterwards for better quality. How do you do this? Are both audio tracks timecoded?
Awesome tutorial! I have an older GoPro, the most painful part was getting the video off the GoPro and trying to stitch the files back together. The standard file naming wasn't even recognized by 3rd party software to be in consecutive order. So frustrating. Did they address this critical part of the overall experience? Maybe do a separate video on this final part of getting the complete video to play off the GoPro. Much appreciated!
I haven't finished watching your video yet, but I will, as a Hero 13 is a camera I want to upgrade to from the Hero 2. I've just 'subbed' because I desperately want to see your video on the latest DJI Air 3s when it comes out, and you release it. I saw your one on the DJI Air 3 and was impressed with your realism regarding the poor tracking when it came to following you on your bike through trees, and I was underwhelmed by the performance. I understand they're bring out Lidar with the 3s, so I'm interested to see if that performs much better. I'm needing it to follow me through trees on my motorbike!

I have a Question??? GREAT VIDEO BTW... You state that it will overheat when standing still. So how do you recommend shooting night trails and keep it from overheating?
Great stuff.. using this as my guide instead of reading the Instructions. Side bar.. which battery bank are you using (in the vid) and which phone case (obviously GoPro mounts) are you using? Keep up the great work!.
For the phone case, I use the Peak Design ones (amzn.to/3Bi0EnZ), and then for the battery bank, I was using this Anker one (amzn.to/3BgCSIY) - it's waaaay overkill for powering a tiny GoPro battery (it could do it like 15x), but is handy because it can also power my laptop at 100w.
Thank you very much for the comprehensive video, great job. I'm curious to get some feed back from users who will be switching lenses in the field with regards to dust and possibly larger particles that will get trapped between the fixed and removable glass. Unlike with mirrorless cameras the sensor won't be exposed(which is great) but I foresee issues with that.

Can a GoPro 12 Use the same timecode sync with GoPro 13 This is what I need to know and have someone actually try it and not just assume it works.... Hell even Gopro themselves cant give a straight answer ( the website says yes, support says no)..... Please Mr Rainmaker can you see if the 12 and the 13 can use the same timecode sync! Then I'll know to get the 13 over the insta and dji.... Cause I love the idea of the Auto ND filter correction (if I dont have to think about it and can let the 13 figure it out for me LOL), even tho I do agree the insta and DJI have left GoPro in the dust for capabilities.
I understand this is a beginners guide, later will you be post about low light shooting. Is the 13's sensor larger than the 12's? At present I'm shooting with the 10 Black and there is a lot of noise when shooting in low light plus the stabilizer dosen't work well in low lighting while biking on gravel at night..
Hi Ray! I am trying to decide between a GoPro 13 or the Obsbot Tail Air for live streaming my grandkids sporting events. What are your thoughts on using a GoPro as a live stream camera? Thanks!
In general, the GoPro's are "ok-ish" for live streaming long events, but really depends on the heat/etc. I'd much prefer a dedicated unit designed more for live streaming.

Although I use Go Pros on my channel I was just getting ready to purchase the DJI Mic2 JUST for its bluetooth audio capability to the DJI Osmo 4/5. Now that GO PRO added this linking capability in there any benefit to going to the OSMO 5 camera vice the Go Pro 13? Your reviews always help guide my equipment selections. I use this stuff in a wet environment on a jet ski. Bob
TBD on OSMO 5. The thing is, the BT connection used by GoPro (or even your phone) to the DJI Mic 2 isn't great. It's OK in a pinch, but not something I'd use for the channel here in terms of audio quality. Wheras the Pocket 3 to the DJI Mic 2 sounds amazing. Largely because it's been mostly demonstrated/proven that DJI isn't actually using BT for the connection between Mic 2 & Pocket 3, but using 2.4Ghz native connection.
Thanks for that analysis… I’ll hold and wait and see what the Osmo 5 capabilities are… I don’t need perfect just need it to work and I would be holding the camera with the mic clipped to me when using the capability. I am drawn to it as I can keep the camera waterproof while picking up better audio. Thanks Bob
@@Dcrainmaker I "think" I just found a reason to switch to the DJI Osmo 5 Pro. Saw a review today where it will allow you to BT connect to BOTH (2) DJI mics directly to the camera (without using the audio receiver) and record audio right onto the video from two different sources . In my case, sat myself and my wife on the Jet Ski and capture all conversations. I doubt the Go Pro 13 will do multiple audio BT connections? have you tried this with the DJI Mic 2? by chance?
Please let other buyers know that it does not come with the magnetic latch mount with most bundles. I saw it in the reviews, stupidly thought it was a standard accessory like DJI and was disappointed when my GoPro 13 came today.

Hi, Great Video. Can I pick your brain please. I am going on a road trip and was thinking if getting a Go Pro for mount on my Dashboard to film all the scenery as I'm driving. I have never owned an action camera before. Is it an overkill to get a Go Pro for this? Also, looking at your other Go Pro 13 videos. It looks like the battery will last about an hour? So, is it best to get 2 batteries with one charging while the other is in use? I didn't realise Action Camera's can overheat. Will overheating be an issue sitting on a car dashboard? Many thanks for any advice or recommendations you can give me.
The GoPro will generall work well for that. In terms of overheating, I did exactly that during this review (for an 2x16hr drive each way), without any issues. Certainly, if it's incredibly hot in the car, and you're trying to shoot 5.3K @ 60FPS, it'll struggle. But for basically any other resolution, you're fine. Plus, for longer drives, you're more than likely going to want to be using HyperLapse mode to capture the outside, which never overheats in that mode (whereas if filming you talking, then regular video modes). In terms of batteries, definitely get two. But, also, get that magnetic charging door. It's awesome for driving, as the cable is long enough to just keep it powered constantly.
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks for the info. My Road trip will be over 2 weeks and I'll be doing about 2500 miles. The car has air conditioning... If that helps :-) I'll get a 2nd Battery and the magnet charging door. I'll probably need the suction cup for mounting in the car. But in your video you seemed to be using some other kind of holder on the dashboard?
@@philriches9830 Yeah, I use both a suction cup, but also a clamp mount. Clamp mounts are cheap, and useful in a gazillion scenarios. Honestly just depends a bit on your car dashboard design. Here's one of the ones I use (amzn.to/4diA0IE) - in a car, I'd remove the gooseneck part, and just use it straight mounted on clamp, else you'll get too much bounce. And/or shorten the gooseneck a bunch (each knob just pops off).
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks very much for the information. You have been a great help. I have just ordered the GoPro Hero 13 with 2 Batteries and the Charging box. The magnetic charging door. Then on Amazon I have purchased a NEEWER 61 in 1 Action Camera Accessory Kit which has lots of different holders, tripods and clamps etc.
I would just get a super-cheap cage, like this, and you can attach any scuba lights: amzn.to/3C0CrCR. (or, there's ones with the lights ready to go as well: amzn.to/3A3ry2M)
Just got my Hero 13 today and can't do anything with it as it prompts me to connect to quik app but quik app says it needs to be updated to connect with my 13. No update available in play store. Anyone have the solution?
My guess is your phone is older? If so, it may be incompatible with newer versions of the app, therefore you can’t update. I would check with tech support though. It’s getting very annoying that to use a camera, you need an app, to use an app you need a phone, but it has to be a phone that’s only so old. So there is the potential someone would need to buy a phone to get an app to use a camera. Crazy times.
@@NickYoung22 I agree, the mandatory app integration is annoying. It ended up being that they hadn't updated the go pro app in the android play store yet. They updated it a day or so after release.
@@RegularMotoGuy glad it’s up and running. I’m dealing with app requirements for stuff in my field (pool service and repair) on pumps and stuff. Customers aren’t fond of it, especially the older ones that aren’t tech savvy. “Can’t I just get something that works without the need to create an account or use my phone”
any idea when they'll update the app so I can use my hero 13 paperweight. I'm very frustrated with them, I pre order, paid for the express shipping option and now that I have the camera I can't even use it until they release the update for the Quik app...
Hmm, not sure there. Double-check the SD card is clean/happy, and then maybe consider resetting the GoPro. Else, GoPro support is probably the best path forward. Sorry!
GoPro 11 user here. Im quite intimidating to buy GP13 but the non reversible battery is a complete turn off due to Im still using my GP11. I dont understand why @gopro doing this unpopular moves. Im considering DJI Osmo 5 due to this issue.
I'm not sure I understand. You're upset that the GoPro changed its battery after many years, so you're going to move to an action cam that also changes its batteries more frequently?
The ‘Legit Kit’ that reviewers have is Legit Expensive. I pre-ordered the camera with ND Filters. Was disappointed to see that the magnetic mount was not included. Am both hopeful and I have buyers remorse at the same time.
SO, i got my HERO 13 today. and the QUICK app doesnt support the 13 yet on android. ARRGGHH.. Support says in the next few days its coming. I will say that the 13 does fit my waterproof cases for the 11 and 12 that i have. Updating firmware was a pain since i couldnt use the quick app, but rather had to do it manual. This is no big deal at all normally, but in a few threads i have been on, users experienced the same thing i did: had to do the update on the card twice. Cant wait to use it underwater at depth (im a diver) and take advantage of the macro and stuff.
ALSO................there is NO GOPRO LABS FIRMWARE for the 13. i forgot to check this before i ordered it and was not happy with that. If you use a GOPRO like i do, GOPRO labs is required. Im stuck with the 9 for right now for specialty programming underwater.
T Rex 3 review please I was about to order Fenix 8 but this Amazfit came out It looks too good to be true , better than Fenix 8 in the most important matters : - better bigger 1 5" display, - brighter 2000 nits display - smoother experience, - better battery - and most of all 1/4 the price Battery, display, smoothness and especially PRICE are the most important fir 90% of users. 90% of us never use the extra features that Garmin has over T Rex 3
If battery/display/price are all that matters, then honestly, go for teh T-Rex. Having used the previous gen quite a bit, what you'll typically find is you get what you pay for. Making a pretty screen and battery is easy. Making good software that's not full of annoyances is challenging.
I can't get the bluetooth thing at 51:30 to work. If the camera is off it just says "we can't find this gopro". Do you need to turn on some setting in the camera for it to stay in that "low power state"?
Hmm, that's odd. Is the camera off via pressing the buttons, or via pulling the battery (if pulling the battery, then it's hard off-of, like, ain't gonna wake up off-off).
@@Dcrainmaker I tried via pressing the button and via letting it turn off on its own. I may have done something wrong, because it didn't work on either my 11 or 13. I'll try again later 😁 Hey, I'm surprised you take the time to reply to comments, thank you for that and for your videos. They help a ton.
I was just watching a motovlogger today whose gopro heard him say "recording" and shut itself off lmao! I think I'd much rather just use phone controls if I don't have access to the touch screen, or pay for the bluetooth remote.
Question: does GoPro still increment their video to 15 to 30 minutes intervals? I don’t know if it did this on the 12 black, but my 11 Pro black would only record up to 15 or 20 minutes, on a 1TB Scandisk Extreme mini card, and it would continue the footage for the next 15 to 20 minutes as a separate video file. This was the one thing i hated about my old GoPros. I would take a 30 minute to 1 hour footage, and it would break the coverage into two or three separate video files. After the Insta360 AcePto came out, i didn’t have the same issue on the same 1TB Scandisk Extreme mini card, so i know it wasn’t the storage card. I would have like two hr video files because that’s when i stopped it, and they weren’t broken up into more file captures. It was like 2 hr of video footage to one file.
I don't know if the 13 does this (my guess is it does), but for the 11/12 you can change this behaviour at least somewhat by increasing the size limit of the files before it records into a new file. To do this you need to use the GoPro Labs firmware and the "64BT" command. Not super straight forward, but it may be worth it to you or someone else with a similar issue.
Sorry, but those GOPRO shortie sticks, seem well built, but suck as they usually lower so you cant raise it up what so ever without it slowly lowering on its own
It's the SAME camera and sensor as last year. All they did was make new lens accessories and made sure they didn't work with prior models so you are forced to buy the "new" camera....

How does this compare to the insta 360
great video!!!
What is your recommended simplest option to connect a GoPro to a scuba video dive light?
I would just get a super-cheap cage, like this, and you can attach any scuba lights: amzn.to/3C0CrCR. (or, there's ones with the lights ready to go as well: amzn.to/3A3ry2M)
@@Dcrainmaker thank you!
I heard you mention breaking the notch on an ND filter. Was that by accident or for it to fit an older model?
Just by accident. Somehow I rotated too hard. :-/
Do the nd filters come in the box with the go pro ?
Not by default, only with either a specific bundle.
Can you connect 2 x DJI mics to the 13 ?
Just got my Hero 13 today and can't do anything with it as it prompts me to connect to quik app but quik app says it needs to be updated to connect with my 13. No update available in play store. Anyone have the solution?
same, someone has a link to a new application ❓
How come the bluetooth mic gives better quality to DJI but worse to Gopro (same mic).
Bro I’m thinking of buying insta360 ace pro instead of GoPro12 or 13. Any comments on that mate
Wait for the DJi Action 5pro😊
@@cyreal8626thx bro
any idea when they'll update the app so I can use my hero 13 paperweight. I'm very frustrated with them, I pre order, paid for the express shipping option and now that I have the camera I can't even use it until they release the update for the Quik app...
You should be able to connect to Quik App now.
My go pro has to update and when I do it it said that it has failed do you know why
@@Dcrainmaker DJI Osmo 5 also using new battery? Im doomed.
The ‘Legit Kit’ that reviewers have is Legit Expensive. I pre-ordered the camera with ND Filters. Was disappointed to see that the magnetic mount was not included. Am both hopeful and I have buyers remorse at the same time.
The website does tell you exactly what comes with the camera's so...
Should of waited for reviews hahahaha I’m waiting for DJI action 5
Moved to DJI osmo action 4..
Sorry NOT going back
can you view waht is being filmed from a paired phone WHILE recording?
The phone will show the camera image while recording. That changed back a few years ago.
T Rex 3 review please
I was about to order Fenix 8 but this Amazfit came out
It looks too good to be true , better than Fenix 8 in the most important matters :
- better bigger 1 5" display,
- brighter 2000 nits display
- smoother experience,
- better battery
- and most of all 1/4 the price
Battery, display, smoothness and especially PRICE are the most important fir 90% of users.
@@Dcrainmaker this is why i wanted your review, to have a good based decision
I sae that t rex 3 is quite smoother than Fenix 8
great video. just bought one and cant wait to use it!
Doesn't look like a magnetic mount but a clipped in mount.
The magnet pulls it in, the clip is for security.
dude - way too much caffeine. i had to slow down the play speed.
Thanks for the overview.
Strange, I was talking pretty slow in this video.
The anamorphic lens seems to be the best of this new camera but having it's launch somewhere in 2025 (?) seems quite disapointing...
thank you for these! as always... great work
Hey DC still waiting for the Hero 9 beginner guide that's 1h long video😅
ND filters is for adding motionblur?? Well yes.. and more...
I'll try again later 😁
Hey, I'm surprised you take the time to reply to comments, thank you for that and for your videos. They help a ton.
Wow dude! I almost feel tired after all that. Great overview. Your vocal cords were putting out some watts on this video.
Thanks for the effort. Very useful and interesting indeed
I was just watching a motovlogger today whose gopro heard him say "recording" and shut itself off lmao!
I think I'd much rather just use phone controls if I don't have access to the touch screen, or pay for the bluetooth remote.
Yup, hence why I shut it off.
From what my hero 5 black does, This is a huge improvement. I don’t buy cameras or phones every year.
Still waiting for someone to make an aero cycling camera
Thanks for this video. Now please go get some sleep 😂
“It will not overheat period” Unless its 40°C, any airflow is hot as hell
35:20 it won't look nice, but you can probably cut, or sand down, that little notch, no?
Your photo information does not account for motion blur. That's what the burst mode is trying to avoid
Amazing! Thanks bud.
0:07 Coming off to a good start 💀
My iPhone doesn't have the new version of Quick preventing me from activating mine. Thanks GoPro for spoiling first impressions...
Will you review the GoPro Hero?
Sorry, but those GOPRO shortie sticks, seem well built, but suck as they usually lower so you cant raise it up what so ever without it slowly lowering on its own
Do not buy knock of sticky mounts unless you wish to loose damage your gopro.
Hi, is the new battery door charging system compatible with any other GP?
Compatible with 10, 11, 12 and 13 according to the gopro shop.
Years and years pass, and I'm each year less likely to buy a new GoPro.
It's the SAME camera and sensor as last year. All they did was make new lens accessories and made sure they didn't work with prior models so you are forced to buy the "new" camera....
