Damn, Uma is gorgeous. Too bad she didn't really get any good roles after Kill Bill. Although she played one of the most badass movie characters of all time. I guess that's already pretty cool.
you might laught at this, but my guess is because this great actress is soo damn tall. past 6' easily. must be a pain to cast a male co-lead or etc for her. congrats to tarantino for give a change regardless.
Mabesch - That's a damn shame. Have a feeling Weinstein had something to do with that. Still waiting for the sequel to Kill Bill if Tarantino gets around to it.
Some celebrities are nice, down-to-earth people when they're not acting warrior Dog. Even though she is still in front of cameras this is an interview so she's not required to act.
Any time someone calls me "Triggered" for calling out racist, sexist, homophobic etc bullshit out online, I tell them "Yes bitch, if you are an asshole then I am gonna be as triggered as Uma Thurman in Kill Bill."
I think the tide is turning, dismissing any criticism of intolerant or disrespectful behaviour as "PC" or "triggered" is not fooling as many people as it did. Fuck those people, really.
The trick to prevent yourself from being triggered, is to counter-trigger the troll. If you're persistent and calculated about how you respond, you can shut the conversation down pretty easily. Trolls feed off rage, just don't get mad, be persistent, and they'll disappear :D
Miranda Otto was perfect as Eowyn - it couldn't have been better casting. Perfect mixture of youthful enthusiasm/defiance and noble, dignified poise - mixed in with the earthiness and sadness of Rohan. Her portrayal was spot on.
@@poison1vy it wasnt badassery that made eowyn cool, its her not being a badass but still deciding to wield the sword to fight against sauron's forces and her inevitable bravery by stabbing the witch king of angmar that made her so cool
She looks really shy and nervous to me - as is the case with many of the best actors who are being themselves in public, instead of a well-rounded scripted character.
I'm not sure how she usually is, but the thrill of a very bright and interesting person being able to engage with another very bright, interesting person can certainly bring out one's best! Her look of intense listening, especially around 3:54, is fantastic--she just exudes intelligence, but isn't at all cocky. Add in his charm and...
I don't think she has the comedic acting chops, personally. I think she has a witty, wry type of comedic acting. Lucy was much more slapstick and vivid.
Have you not seen his recent in-depth 4-minute Ricky Gervais interview? Where Ricky defends his atheism and how there's no God - and Stephen defends his Catholicism. In my opinion, Ricky wins easily - but it's good natured and exactly how this kind of subject should be discussed - but it also pulls no punches on either side. And - just hats off to the pair of them - I hope you look it up. That's how it's done! (I've watched a number of his interviews now - and Colbert is an excellent chat-show host; and clearly a very articulate and intelligent man)
I think she's always been that way though. Some celebrities just have complicated personalities and trying to conduct an interview with them is like pulling iron teeth. Colbert did the best he could here with the little she was giving him.
Yep. He was asked long before Ian Mckellen and apparently turned it down because he didnt understand the part. He also lost out on 10 to 15% of the box office takings for each film. If he doesn't...... Ian Mckellen should send him a thank you card every year!
How hard is it to let a genuily nice comment like "god bless x" slide for an atheist? We get it, you don't believe in god, move the fuck on with your life.
I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan who kept up with all the casting news before everyone was set, so I remember her being considered for Eowyn. That was when she was married to Ethan Hawke, and *he* was being considered for Faramir. I'm not sure when they divorced, but I wonder now if their marriage was on the rocks during that casting period, and if it might have had something to do with them both turning down the roles.
Miranda was good, but Uma would’ve been a better fit. Eowyn was described as this tall, slender, athletic warrior in the writings. Basically a female Aragorn.
Catherine ღ I agree. Miranda Otto was fine, but I think Uma would’ve made Eowyn more badass. Not just as a fighter but in general. Maybe it was the writing and directing too, but Eowyn was too soft in the movies.
Wow. She has a really easy smile and nice personality. I know this sounds silly but from all the movies I had a completely wrong idea of what she would sound/feel like.
Her father being a Buddhist monk has nothing to do with her being beautiful and talented. Looks and talent can be genetic but Buddhism is a religion, not something transferable by genes - you either believe in it or not.
As much as I love Tarantino's films, and as much as I love the universe he created, kill bill is a done story, and a sequel will jeopardize ruining the original.
My husband is the son of a Japanese zen monk and in his case getting married and having children is not consider breaking your vows. Many Japanese monks are married and have children. In fact, it's the only way to keep the temple running.
D. N. There are two main branches of Buddhism - Theravada and Mahayana. The former practiced mainly in SE Asia and the latter in NE Asia, including Tibet. Within Tibetan Buddhism, there are four main sects, one or two of those allow monks to marry.
I still remember her as the sweet and naive Cecile de Volange in 1988 "Dangerous Liaisons". I always compare her contemporary works with that particular piece. It's really mindblowing. And if it's any consolation, I did imagine her playing Eowyn when I read The Lord of the Rings.
When you think about it, Pai Mei taught her how to beat all the villains in volume 2. Snatching the eye he didn't, 3 inch punch out of the coffin, and finally the five point technique on Bill. Which was sad because the way he talked to his daughter was lovely, but actions have consequences. There's no reconciling a bullet to the head.
I was watching that clip from Imposters and when the guy says, "What are you going to do if I don't?" I almost screamed "Dude have you NOT SEEN KILL BILL?"
When they ask you to be in LOTR, you say YES. You can always have a second child, and 'bond' with that one. First one's always a write-off anyhow. Sheesh.
Sean Connery also turned down Gandalf and he was offered a very sweet deal and % of the profits, he missed out on many, many millions, he said he didn't understand it.
I love Stephen! He always makes the right questions, usually lets his guests speak and has a great sense of humor. His laugh is not fake I might add ;) One of my favourite night show hosts. Uma is very elegant, sophisticated and is a hell of a great actress. Chapeau!

Exactly what I was thinking. The warmest thing to do as a celebrity
Damn, Uma is gorgeous. Too bad she didn't really get any good roles after Kill Bill. Although she played one of the most badass movie characters of all time. I guess that's already pretty cool.
Princess Leia didn't get any memorable roles after playing Carrie Fisher either.
She wasn't bad in The Blues Brothers though.
mabesch I don't know if I agree with this she played Medusa in Percy Jackson
you might laught at this, but my guess is because this great actress is soo damn tall. past 6' easily. must be a pain to cast a male co-lead or etc for her. congrats to tarantino for give a change regardless.

What a nice lady Uma Thurman is and very down to earth.
her performances are electrifying please watch Gattaca, Paycheck, and Savages!
Some celebrities are nice, down-to-earth people when they're not acting warrior Dog. Even though she is still in front of cameras this is an interview so she's not required to act.
it's weird but the older she.looks she's somehow gets this regal sexiness that makes her more attractive than her younger years.
I agree. Same with Gillian Anderson.
Gillian Anderson looks like an ogre in a trouser suit.
Uh..? Do you not see all that work she's had done on her face
Dark Smurf Gillian Anderson is unbelievably gorgeous! ;)
she looks more badass too. like agent 47. and her laugh is pretty scary.
She has that beauty villain look, if that makes sense.
Yes it does!
She is Poison Ivy, after all

She has the personality of one of those great Hollywood stars. She's suave and self aware like Bette Davis or Katherine Hepburn
Actually it'd be a good idea to have her play Hepburn
Ingrid Bergman! 😍
Love her in Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, she has a funny laugh
Miranda Otto was perfect as Eowyn - it couldn't have been better casting. Perfect mixture of youthful enthusiasm/defiance and noble, dignified poise - mixed in with the earthiness and sadness of Rohan. Her portrayal was spot on.

Watch ‚Prime‘. She laughs in that one 😊
She looks great in black.
well she is the black mamba
Peter Lockhart I thought that was Darryl Hannah, what was her code name?
alicia sciarrillo California Mountain Snake
Beatrix Kiddos code name was Black Mamba
Uma Thurman is gorgeous. she just gets more beautiful as time goes by.
She has a great laugh!
yeah it"s not some stars who laugh so cute in front of the tv fearing about their image XD
Yes, and i totally wasnt expecting her to be so giggly. Is she usually like that in interviews or is it the Colbert charm?
Yes, we are so used to seeing her in those Tarantino films where she is so measured.

I guess its just one of those things you either love or you hate but man unless that was sarcasm I hated it
Robert Thurman: "Why do you guys keep talking like I'm already dead?!"
But, then again, what is death, anyway?
Great honest and genuine laugh - seems like a very good person how could you not love her
Everytime I see Uma Thurman in an interview, I fall in love again.
No way! I Fall Out,Boy.
If they ever made a film about Lucille Ball, I think she could play a great Lucy.
I don't think she has the comedic acting chops, personally. I think she has a witty, wry type of comedic acting. Lucy was much more slapstick and vivid.
THey should have made it with Debra Messing years ago...
It was announced over a year ago that Cate Blanchett was going to star in a bio film about her, but unless I missed it, it never came out.
I don't think she has the kind of huge personality needed to play Lucy.
Great idea

Stephen is quite small.
Have mercy, she is stunning!
Daniel Caceres she is gracing with age. People are crazy, she looks better then ever
I expected them to be playing Fall Out Boy when she came out. Kinda disappointed. :/
it's a live band, so they don't ever have to buy copyright material for music or worry about youtube takedowns, they just play their own stuff
Lysander Tavish That's not how live bands work.
also that song is ass without The Munsters sample
I love Uma!! She always plays strong powerful women with a presence...
She's so shy and yet she's the best badass in movies! Take that, J.Law
For a moment I thought you meant Jude Law and was like "wait, what"
...and then it clicked lol. 👍
Poison Ivy!!!!!
BlueKnight Batcard *zing*
Must be her second biggest regret.
I'd put The Avengers (1998) ahead of Batman and Robin as far as regrets go.
Robert Lythgoe Heh, I forget about the Avengers remake, I dont remember it being that bad though.
Stuart Townsend as Aragorn, Sean Connery as Gandalf, now her........ The list of people I'm glad didn't get cast in LOTR grows longer.

Wow she handled that question about the role she turned down because she was a new mother with such grace and humility. Unreal.
she'll be a woman soon

Pulp Fiction reference. Check out the scene with her dancing to the Song by the Natural Born Hippies, right before overdosing on heroin.

And if it's any consolation, I did imagine her playing Eowyn when I read The Lord of the Rings.
I recognize her better as The Uma Thurman when I see her in profile..
She is simply epic in Kill Bill.

What an absolutely wonderful interview. I continue to love this show, because it's so real, and kind!!! Great stuff.
There's no one on Earth I'd rather be stuck in an elevator with than Stephen Colbert. A fascinating, warm, genuine person.

When she walked out, I thought she really looked like Connie Neilson. She's getting sexier as the years go on.
Seems really natural and quite humble. and even a little timid.
Very charming.
One of the nicest real "Movie Stars" Iv seen interviews.
Uma is a Sanskrit word which means 'night/tranquility' or 'splendor/fame' in different contexts. Uma is also a name for a goddess, wife to Shiva.
Her laugh is so hysterical :D
That was some of the funniest walk on music out there, "Uma Thurman!" "All the way home"
I hate how Hollywood completely dumped her after she turned 35 🙄 #Ageism
the Thurminator!
She and Sharon Stone are the two reasons why I'd be forever longing for the 90s. Even though I was born in the 90s lol
She's such a sweetheart! I expected from her roles she would be somewhat of a hardass, but she's so nice!
Love her laugh! Very authentic!
there is something so freaking classy about her
she would have been a real good legolas

That giggle is fantastic!
I'd never seen any Thurman interviews before and for this being my first, I think I'm slightly falling in love...
I'd like to crack jokes to her and hear her laugh... Very cute... A VERY lovely person.
something nervous about this interview
I guess she's just adorably awkward as she is
Uma, you're not supposed to say out loud things like you didn't take a job because you were taking care of a baby. That doesn't fit the narrative.
I'm sorry but am I the only one who doesn't necessarily like the band?
The band is great! Sometimes they come up with this songs. But I've heard them improvise on Bach and Mozart and they're very good musicians. Not necessarily a reason to like them, but stil...
Probably. John and Stay human are amazing musicians... I think they`re the second best after the roots.
I don't dislike the music but Jon's laugh. so damn annoying.
I'm with you. They're awful.
Just to let you know.. Stephen Colbert likes them.
Stephen's interviews are dope because he asks real questions and he seems genuinely interested 💯 well done
I 💖 Uma

Beautiful you proved inner beauty over the years, Thanks zUma.
she is cool, but I went to high school with that guy in the clip. so proud. he is a cool guy. hope he gets more films that way.
Re-watching this interview with context of Uma Thurman comments about Harvey Weinstein... Makes you understand exactly why she turned down the LOTR role.
Uma- what a legend and the kind of person I could spend hours with without saying much.
what a great interview, i could watch it for much longer
❤it doesn't surprise me one bit that Uma is so intelligent and humorous... of course I already knew she's BEAUTIFUL! She and Emily Blunt are my two favorites and have been for years! ❤ I LOVE HER!😅
Starting around 0:28 the glass swaps from right to left 0:32 to right
So he spent ten minutes talking to her almost exclusively about a role she filmed roughly 15 years ago? Ouch
I love that clip shown there. A man touches a woman and she retaliates by breaking his arm. Are we suppose to cheer for her?
Ive had a crush on Uma my entire life. man i had such a crush on uma thurman as a kid loll
They didn't even talk about the Batman movie she was in! So sad :(
Where has she been?
hanging out in bars breaking peoples arm. what a bitch
kill bill is prob one of the best movies ever fucking made.
does anybody notice Stephen's nervousness while talking to her ?
She's so gracious and elegant--like the actresses from Classic Hollywood.
She is lovely in so many ways. One of my favorite actresses.
