ah you were in the new part of terminal 2 known as the South Gates. It was built as the airport was struggling to cope even after the opening of the new terminal 2, it has nine stands and 5 gates explained here ua-cam.com/video/9GJQLLD_fzU/v-deo.html
Very nice video and I did subscribe. I'm going on aer lingus a320 on October 5 and I'm sitting on seat 11a. I'm going Dublin to Heathrow and I hope to board in the same place as you.
That boarding was an absolute shambles.. You are called to a gate, then bused to a remote terminal then walk out to your aircraft!!! Which idiot thought that system up? It doubles the boarding time, causes problems on board the aircraft ie pax boarding without reference to their seats or rows. In a country such as Ireland which is known for its inclement weather to have so many off jetty departures is the height of nonsense. On top of all that the passengers get wet and as seen in the vid, the boarding area on the aircraft gets waterlogged. Dublin airport is trying to encourage more passengers to use it as a transit hub, yes they have expanded with a new terminal but they must plan for expansion not put their passengers through that performance.
I totally agree, many of the other passengers seemed quite confused about this as well. The Walk from Terminal to Plane was unsupervised, so somebody could actually end up on the wrong plane as they sometimes parallel board aircraft which are next to each other.
STRFlyer Very true, plus there is the safety aspect to that as well, what was to stop someone walking to an unmanned aircraft or being knocked down by vehicles. In the remote stand passengers seem lost and no one was on hand to guide and explain all the ridiculous system. EI and Dublin airport really need to step up their game if they plan this to be the norm. The proper and more efficient way to introduce extra stands is to build a remote which allows pax to walk or use people movers to get to it then either bus or escort them to their aircraft. One other point, If you are going to walk pax to the aircraft, have steps with a roof on it to shelter the pax from the rain and keep the aircraft interior free of large puddles
I can understand the walk boarding and bad weather happens, I guess it's not really worth the cost. But as you mentioned, there should be a specific route, which is clearly marked or segregated from the rest of the apron. Also, I am still looking for a reason you have to call people to a gate to get them to another terminal, instead of just making it accessible right away.
STRFlyer Exactly, it just stinks of incompetent planning and strategic forethought to any expansion which seems to have caught them completely off guard. But if you want to compete and attract large numbers of transit pax who do not understand or read English then you have to offer a world class product. You mentioned also the weather, in Ireland you can have 3 seasons in one day and most days it will rain ( that's why the fields are so green) so you prepare for that, ie you have steps with a covering on them, you minimise the length of time and distance pax are getting wet.. sitting on a flight in wet clothes for a couple of hours is not what pax expect or should be subjected too. I have either worked or been too lots of airports around the world and that is the worst display of a boarding I have ever seen. A disgrace to Aer Lingus and Dublin airport
David Corbett disagree . Having used the new area for boarding a couple of times now it works really well. The first gate is a bus gate and the other terminal is 2 minutes by bus away from T2. New modern and clean area with plenty gates - the footage was badly shot. Doesn't really give you a good impression of what it's like in reality

That's interesting, thanks for the information!
Nice vid 👍🏻 I’m going on aer lingus soon
