I love your new camera so much! also I lol-ed so much for WIP #1 because I was like OH i have the perfect book! And then had you recommend said book from me 🤣lololol Okay I do think I have some book recs though:
WIP 1# I recommend you again my homegirl Tamora Pierce, she did this 8 part series about this group of four mages as kids then young adults, they are mostly self contained stories though as you have already figured out. She has a plant mage called Briar so he has two books one as a child "Briar's book" in the circle of magic series and then as a young adult on his own in "Street magic" in the circle opens series. Briar was always my favorite character and I enjoyed his stories the best!
WIP #2 Also part 2 of a series but i have no regrets, you miss a touch of alien world building and a tiny part of story set up but also its a self contained standalone. A closed and common orbit by becky chambers. Lots of LGBT storylines, explores a ships AI that chooses to leave her ship for a body and has to deal with the consequences of being in a world built for humanoids, hiding who she is, and the concept of what makes someone a person. Its one of the best AI stories Ive read and I loved it. Also I have NO clue about this book, it resists the search bar, I feel like its possibly not Ray Bradbury since he didn't write much about robots in general... but there are so many short stories...
Lol and thats all I got girl!!

I'm glad you love the camera too. It was a very expensive birthday present to myself xD. And we're on the SAME WAVELENGTH. I'm really happy that I was right about reading Braiding Sweetgrass as research! Woot woot! and Yessss, I need more Tamora Pierce. I miss our first collab where you made me choose my adventure.
Also, I read A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet so I'm all primed for the sequel! That's so cool that we follow the AI from the first book ... although DAMN that storyline was DEVASTATING.
lol Kelly thinks the robot Ray Bradbury one might be a short story but I don't remember what it's called Dx
You are my book-recs hero today!

I don't know the Ray Bradbury story but something that sounds a little similar is The Hierarchies by Ros Anderson. I have it out from my library at the moment so I'll be reading it soon 😊

Karina Halle is very spicy but has cool books. Blood Orange is a Dracula retelling and A Ship of Bones and Teeth is a little mermaid retelling. Have fun ! 😅😅

And yes! Thank you for the mermaid retelling, I’m so excited to get into it!

One of the books on my TBR is "The people in the trees" by Hanya Yanagihara which is about a lost tribe on a remote Micronesian island, which could (potentially, as I haven't read it yet) be interesting? I've been reassured that it is not at all as traumatic as the author's "a little life" but just as addictive. I read "the wicked deep" which fits that same prompt also. While I didn't love the book overall, the worldbuilding and atmosphere was quite good!

oooh both definitely sounds interesting, and gosh bless, I do not want to read something as traumatic as A Little Life lol

This is an awesome request video! Maybe check out Earthsea by Ursula K LeGuin. While she wasn’t BIPOC, she intentionally wrote a black main character in an era where that was discouraged. The magic is more nature based.

My boss recommended her to me as well and it just came in on Libby! Now I'm extra excited to read it.

I don't know about the Ray Bradbury story, but maybe it's not a book but a short story? He wrote a lot of short stories...

@@kellyseeksbooks my friend might have said it was a short story now that I think about it
