- We received another package in the mail from one of our viewers! This package comes to us Bobbie in Virginia! In this video, Howard opens the package and prints the three large cuts we received.
These were sent to us from Virginia , but as Bobbie mentioned in a letter, they previously received them in England. These really made a connection with Howard as one of his favorite vacations was a visit to England with his wife. These cuts (two woodcuts and an electrotype) are now some of the most detailed cuts in our print shop. Thank you so much Bobbie for this wonderful gift and for your support!

It seems a bit difficult to even draw these drawings on a paper and somebody craved it out on a piece of a wood!?! Bless those hands❤ It's so beautiful and detailed❤
Check out the artist Gustave Baumann, if you want to see some mind-blowing woodcut printing art. I mean, he's from way back, but his work is timeless expressionist style.
His multicolored prints are amazing. I got to see a big gallery exhibition of his work and woodcut blocks, as it showed the different layering carvings that had to be done to get the different portions of the whole piece done. Yeah, its a whole other way of thinking about space and proportion , like you have to think in reverse almost when cutting the printblocks.
The name of the artist was Peter Gates. He was an artist who made cuts like these from the 40's til about the 70's. You can find some of his other work online or up for auction.
Good info, thanks. Ever seen Gustave Baumann woodcut printing? Its worth looking up.

I have always found woodcut printing art to be fascinating. Ive never had time to make very many myself. ive done a few small ones and i carved a lino block design for a stamp for a place i worked for, to stamp the company logo onto bags and papers.
There was an German/American artist Gustave Baumann that i really admire who specialized in woodblock relief printing. He did amazing multicolored printed art pieces.
Fantastic!
What beautiful detail! Such a thoughtful gift!❤
Beautiful
Those are an amazing find
You are very good man
👍
Early Christmas present! ❤
A realley nice present!
Love from INDIA🇮🇳
Wow nice 👍🏼 ❤😅
is this press you are using similar to the one benjamin franklins brother used to own, the one where Benjamin had his "Poor Richards Almanac" printed up on? as well as the Do-gooder widow-- anonymous letters from under the door of his brothers print shop?
Ben Franklin would have used what was known as a common press and was made out of wood. Our Washington hand press is cast and wrought iron.
1st!
hi! your printing press looks to be from what, the late 1700's!?
Our Washington hand press was made in 1852!
Do you send prints to the person who gifted the cuts?
Do you sell the prints you make?
Terrific, such details 👌 😀 👏 😊. It's awesome and wonderful people have hung onto different items from years ago
Love it. 🔔🎶🎵🎼🎻✒️📰📠🕌⛪️
