    I wasn't aware of this movie. Thanks for bringing it to the old leather couch! Also, thanks for the additional push I needed to see The Intruder. If anyone else needs to be convinced, there's an amazing interview on UA-cam with Roger Corman and William Shatner about the movie from around 2000.

    Holy shit! I’m so glad you guys are doing this one (this was one of those “rite of passage” type films that all of us young punks watched in the 90s). I hope you don’t shit on it too bad (I haven’t watched your review yet… but I’m about to!). I actually got to see it on the big screen at Hollywood Theatre (Portland, OR) with Penelope Spheeris in attendance (did a Q&A!!)!!! It was a long time ago and all I really remember (I think I was pretty hamboned) was this elderly couple in front of us (they were like 75 years old! What the fuck were they doing there???) shushing me and my buddy as we laughed and joked at all the best bits (we had a BIG laugh at the initial DOG ATTACK scene). Sorry (misguided) art-loving boomer couple, this is an EXPLOITATION/genre film!! I still love this film and I hope you guys do too….. (presses PLAY!).

    Oh man, I got to this episode late (been busy) and I missed a gem, you guys were on fire in this ep! Laughed out loud so much. The frog thing, the 'Skinner has the cadence of a peanuts character,' and the 'P.S. I stole the yellow shirt.' Oh man, I have tears. Great job guys, and also really enjoyed your thoughts on the movie at the end. Sometimes you leave me a little bit wanting when there isn't much to say about a film, but this one obviously had a lot of thinking points. Also great to hear your thoughts the Intruder, amazing film everyone should watch. Also real proof to me that Shatner is/was a great actor-- this is a pet peeve of mine that people think Shatner just a can of ham or whatever, but I think he's got this rep because people don't remember him in ST-- they remember the impressions OF him, by Carrey and Pollak and they think he's exactly like that, when the parodies are obvs exaggerated. He has an old style of acting but its pretty par of the course for the time-- Adam West is the same era and is arguably more 'hammy' really. Anyway great episode! Thanks guys.

    Since you mention WTTB's deficit of movies directed by women, here's a Seen It! for you: Joan Micklin Silver's second feature-length effort, 1977's "Between the Lines", about a group of mostly twenty-somethings proceeding towards maturity while working at an alternative newspaper in Boston. I saw it as a teenager when it was released, and it seems to have been largely forgotten, despite early performances by an astonishing number of people who made it big in movies and TV series only a few years later: Jill Eikenberry, John Heard, Lindsay Crouse, Bruno Kirby, Stephen Collins, Joe Morton, and Marilu Henner; Michael J. Pollard was the old pro by comparison. Oh, and this guy named Jeff Goldblum apparently is now known as an accomplished jazz pianist with the Mildred Schnitzer Orchestra. Available to be streamed through Brazilian River's Top Grade service in the USA, at least.

    Man, we watched Suburbia on VHS so many times as teens. Then we got to see The Vandals not long after being introduced to it. They were supposed to headline the "Anti-Republican Convention," which consisted of a few punk bands playing in an open parking lot in the warehouse district of New Orleans in 1988, when the Republicans had their very real convention in town. There was one problem: The Vandals, rebelling against their Californian government, were very much Republican. They refused to play and ended up headlining at a different show (featuring at least one of the same bands) later that night. I could probably write a novella about all the small but indelibly stained moments in my mind from that day. A trio of idiots ages 14-15, drunk, stoned, somehow transported around the city by hippie, by punk, or by RTA just to skank around the pit in a teenie bopper club that somehow hosted punk concerts once a week. We've all been there, right?

    I can't remember which episode it was but there was one time where Craig wrote down a movie he thought it was on a piece of paper and revealed it after you said what it was and I was wondering if you've ever thought about making that a thing? You've been bringing out the records and stuff as "hints" for him and reciting a little riddle/poem beforehand to work your way into revealing what it's going to be and thought it'd be neat if you combined the two and added in a little pause just to see what he thought it might be. If he's right cool that's awesome but if he's wrong it could be added to the seen it later or an idea to watch that movie at a later date.

    • @chumon1992
      @chumon1992 Рік тому

      Yeah I liked that the dogs became their friends and it was the asshole idiots that killed the kid at the end. Wild dogs are primarily only aggressive because they're hungry and have very little trust for humans(with good reason). So the fact that they saved them from those asshats and fed them helped them become friendly with them. A very nice touch.

    Regarding the web series idea (which I think it's kind of fun :D), I just wanted to mention that there's a really good Iranian movie called "Shirin" from Abbas Kiarostami, and the idea is similar. The only thing you're seeing is the reactions of an ensemble of Iranian actresses (and Juliette Binoche for some reason) to a movie they're watching. You don't see the movie. You can hear it, but the only thing you're seeing is the reactions. I highly recommend you check it out if you haven't!

    Jack Grisham IS the Elvis of punk rock! This movie was one of the gateways to punk I saw as a teen (albeit in the 2000's) alongside DECLINE. What a seemingly rugged, unruly time. Even the film itself shows it's age - casual racism and sexism, homophobia... some of it really didn't age well. But it's still a unique glimpse into another world.

I was a teenager in the 80's and I remember being so disgusted by movies that I couldn't even watch most of them. Almost every single movie had female t&a that had NOTHING to do with furthering the plot. As a teenage girl it was pretty damned disturbing. Thank god we have internet porn now so that movies can be about stories again. (and if there IS gratuitous nudity, there's a chance it might be male, and it's almost never rapey)
