  • This is how I modified a 3d printer to draw patterns in sand using magnets.

      @@TotallyNoAim 3D printers usually make some degree of noise when operating, but it varies depending on the waveform generated by the motor controllers. I find it hard to believe he could eliminate that noise entirely.

      It's not 5 grand. I recall looking at them. I think they were 500 to 800 depending on size. If you wanted a HUUGE one then maybe it would approach multiple thousands. But one the size he made would be a few hundred dollars if I remember correctly

      ​@@SoulDelSol the cheapest for a side table is like 1,400. The cheapest product they have is like 600 and is for a small 14" table top version.

      It’s really not as complicated as it seems. Programming, electronics and a bit of engineering. It’s more approachable than you’d think

      It’s honestly really easy to do engineering. I take bong rips and build robots 😂 physics and math is hard; not engineering.

    Maaaan it would be sooo fucking cool to somehow integrate that into a digital clock! Like, it changes with the time, probably in 5 minutes intervals, and have that as a coffee table.

      It changes very slowly. It's always moving and takes a really long time to change whole surface. This is obviously sped way up

    The Sisyphus is a cool product but they made it to be a luxury item and the price is stupidly high, but for sure it's amazing.

      The price is defiantly up there, but can understand why.
      I sat next to one of them at old workplace a lot, it was memorizing, well built, and art. Probably one of the earliest versions, looks like they gotten fancier since. The artist of the tables is the dad of the CEO of the company I worked for then.
      But imo it's also good people are making lower cost versions of this concept for accessibility reasons. Artists gets paid for quality work, but others can have one also who can't pay the high cost.

      @@hefoxed I understand the pricetag, the quality of the craftsmanship and how cool the concept is are undeniable. Of course I'm not the target client for them, but I would probably choose to buy that beautiful table over jewelery or Loui Vuitton bags that I dont care about.

      Most higher end printers are quieter or silent, but the cheaper ones tend to be quite noisy.

    you should try using a polar coordinate gantry instead of xy, would give more coverage, require less materials, and be more efficient for circular motions.

    I think if I were gonna build one, I would have one axis be angle and the other be distance from center.
    Still 2 axis but should be simpler construction and less dead zone caused by the square work area of the 3d printer frame.

    You could try using a array of linear motors instead, should be much faster although much less precise. Would also be quite a bit cheaper considering you’ll just need a load of wires.

    Would you please make a short video showing the effects of a triangle configuration of 3 steel balls and a hexagon configuration with 6 steel balls (five outer balls and a center ball for stability). I think that could potentially add an interesting level of depth to the patterns in the sand, assuming the ball bearing shapes remained in their intended shape. Thank you!

    Instead of an X & Y gantry, you could make it a Diameter & Rotation (or Radius & Rotation) system. It could be fewer parts and reach the entire circle without corners. ☮️❤️🌈

    In the video there was a problem with the circular table and the x-y gantry. It meant that there would inevitably be sides the marble couldn't reach.
    I was thinking about that again while watching this, and I just thought. Why not make the table square then?
