    I loved seeing your space Ardyth. It is so wonderfully organized. You are one of my favorite crafters to follow and it struck me to see all the black and white in your area with very little colored cardstock as in my mind you are the Queen of Color. No one can create colored images and backgrounds like you. We built my stamp room desk, cabinets and drawers back in 2007 and it was so perfect for me then. I have changed my storage options several times and purged many times as well. My drawers were initially filled with Stampin' Up! wood mounted stamp sets and many other brands as well. Now the stamps are almost gone and the drawers are filled with the dies I love to work with all the time. I changed up paper storage that used to live in my upper cabinets and now live in an open shelf system from floor to ceiling that makes it easy for me to see. I used to buy everything that caught my eye but now I'm way more selective and only purchase items that I love to use for my style of paper crafting. XOXO

      Kittie, we are a mutual admiration society as your beautifully detailed die cut cards take my breath away every time! Yes I remember the days of loads of wood-block stamps (I still have a few) and how my craftroom storage has changed since then! And I agree that I am starting to finally 'settle' into recognizing the kind of craft I am and what I love. Not that I don't try new things, too (sometimes too often! lol!) Thanks for dropping by!

      I desperately need to destash stamps and dies so I’m always impressed with crafters who actually do so!! I would like to donate them to some organization or person but have no clue where to find one. I think that’s all that’s holding me up from destashing- just knowing who to give it to (I totally am not interested in selling it). Thanks for this video!!

      @ardyth  3 роки тому +1

      @@lauraholden6703 You don't have to sell it, you could give it away. Advertise on your insta or blog or facebook and I'm sure you'll find people happy to help you by taking it off your hands. I've also seen crafters 'sell' it and then donate proceeds to a charity, so that's a nice idea too. Good luck!

      I’ve found that my style has evolved so I’ve been selling a lot of items that I’ve never used. I’ve sold a ton of items but still have a lot more to go. I’ve gone through all of my stamps & dies and reorganized them in the large rolling Iris carts. I put what I think I want to sell (I change my mind a lot) in a large plastic storage tub. One of my biggest problems is dust and dog hair. I’ve got to keep all my supplies covered in whatever storage system I purchase. That’s how I ended up with the large rolling Iris carts. I store my card stock in the tall Iris rolling carts. I also got a large metal shelving system from Home Depot. It’s probably 72 inches tall. I’ve stored many items on the shelves. It’s in my bedroom. I purchased a shower curtain that coordinates with my comforter. I used decorative shower curtain rings and hung the shower curtain around 3 sides of the shelving unit. The pretty shower curtain helps blend the shelves into my bedroom, almost like a piece of furniture. I wish I could post a photo of it.

    Fun tour and so neat to learn what you have destashed. :) After many years, I find I do best by reorganising on a semi-continuous basis. Reminds me what I have, shows what I should start using up, and makes me feel good about all the modular storage I have that is multip prupose by design. I curently have most of my stamps on top of one of the long rolling carts from Michaels, and the way I mostly reach for my bin of Tim Holtz stamps lately helps me stop from impulse purchases because I already have so many stamps I haven't used even once yet.

    The space looks great and looks just right for you (for now, at least!) I’m always confused and impressed when someone has an empty drawer. I am very lacking in drawer space in my whole house so I can’t imagine having an empty one! But of course it’s good to have a little extra empty space. And drawers don’t work for everyone, it depends on your organizing style. Good for you figuring out what works for you :)

    I went through rebalancing my craft room early this year. We had to move from down south to up north in one 4x2m van (13x6.5ft) for everything we owned including furniture. It was a squeeze so I down sized a lot of craft stuff. Interestingly my purge list was similar to yours. I have found that I still don’t use everything I kept so I will have another purge soon. I think over the years our tastes change and our skills grow. I don’t feel like I need all the papers now because like you, I can make my own. I have a silhouette so I don’t need a lot of dies. I’m so much more creative with less!

    I'm the same with needing to see things, but getting overwhelmed with too much clutter. I feel like my storage is ever evolving and never quite right, but better than it used to be. I have found that I love the pastes and messy mediums more the more I grow into my style, but I definitely wish I was better at purging stamps! I'm planning on trying to make something with each stamp/stamp set to weed through them. If I can't come up with any ideas for it, it's got to go!

    • @ardyth
      @ardyth  3 роки тому +1

      Haha! That's exactly how I feel about the 'stuff'. and evolution of my craft room! Funny, I have found it easiest to purge stamps, I think largely because many are similar (how many butterfly sets do I need, for example) and also because they are easy to package up and send to someone else who wants them. I do find that I keep some of them even when there's only one stamp (usually a sentiment) that I love in a set. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you, Ardyth for this great video. I really love how you put it together, and showed how things changed from the old to the new. I also really appreciate how many questions you answered in the comments. I know you make a lot of videos, and that must be difficult to keep up with. Honestly often people ask questions that others also would like the answers to, but it might not happen. It’s totally understandable too. So I just wanted to say thank you for the many folks you responded to because it had to take a lot of your time. Also thank you for your videos. I haven’t discovered all that I should have about my crafting style yet, I’m still a work in progress. But I do know I’m visual. Because when I put stuff away where it is designated to go, I often don’t use it. I go through my “bins” every few months to “reacquaint” myself with what I have -that hasn’t been used because I forgot about it. It also immediately gives me ideas for creating something new! Although I have a multitude of unfinished cards in bags just waiting to be put together! 🤯 I like making multiples at once because if I’m going to search through all my stuff when designing- I must create more than one card. I Love stamps, but without Misti (and sometimes still with it)
    I can still suck at stamping…so I create many cards mainly using dies! But I still collect them for my future self that will be great at it! 🤣
    Thank you for all you contribute to our crafting experience! You are a treasure, and much appreciated! 💙

    Great tips! I always say - to thine own self be true. I have purposefully chosen to not invest in the foiling trend or slim-line trend. I do use foil, but just with tape. I did by stencil duo for it, but have yet to crack the jar. I do make slim-line cards, but I don’t need specific slim-line product for that. My first love is still die cutting. But I’ve purposely chosen to not invest in colorize dies. All those teeny tiny pieces! No thanks. I am lazy, big time. No layering stamps or stencils for me. If it takes multiple steps to get one image, forget it! One day, I will purge and probably drop all but my white and gold pastes. I don’t like messy products, but I have a purpose for white. I should also purge my water colour markers. I never use them! Thanks for giving me things to think about!

    Hi new to this hobby. Watched the craft room tours. Really impressed how you changed. Also the amount of stuff, made me a little envious, OK I know you did not start yesterday. I notice you don't use a cricut machine but use several die cutting machines. I/we bought a cricut machine before making the craft room or even buying supplies. However despite doing a lot of things well, it soon left my wife and I a little more. My sister, who has been card making in the UK, for several years, who has never had a cricut, nor does she want one. Has always used dies and embossing folders. Advised us to get a die cutting machine, we now have the big shot. Had it now for about three weeks, We are now travelling down this never ending rabbit hole, that is card making. Oh back to my question, do/did you ever use cricut?

    • @ardyth
      @ardyth  2 роки тому +1

      I had the original Cricut way back in the day (the one with cartridges, before Design Space), and traded that for a Portrait, but in the end, found that I mostly used it for my kids' school projects. The way I got into the hobby, I was more of a stamp and die cut type card maker, and as your sister points out, you can't use embossing folders with a Cricut. Having said that, there are so many cardmakers who are amazing with their Cricuts - Sarah Edwards (Craft With Sarah here on UA-cam) is really incredible and designs her own cut files. If you're interested in seeing a few cricut crafters, starting tomorrow, you will be able register for the Card Maker Success Summit (I'm one of the presenters, but my topic is not Cricut) - I've had a sneak peek at all of the videos because I help work behind the scenes for the Summit, and there are some really neat Cricut techniques that are going to be shown. Plus lots of other stuff. It's a free event and we'd love to have you! As for the amount of stuff in my craft room, I'm actually working on paring it down to the stuff I know I love and will use a lot. It's easy to get caught up in thinking you need everything (or at least need to try everything! lol!) and I definitely did that! I'm trying to slowly move to a more minimal approach but it's hard when there's so much fun stuff! Anyway, long way to say, if you've got both the Cricut and the Big Shot, you can definitely enjoy the benefits that each one has, as you figure out what type of crafters you are. Enjoy!

    Thank you for sharing, I’m in the process of downsizing. I’m going through an emotional phase as i feel I’ve wasted so much money. How did you downsize? Donation? Gifted? Someone you knew? I just want my beautiful supplies to go to a happy home 🥰 any advice appreciated 😍

    • @ardyth
      @ardyth  2 роки тому +1

      I have given lots of cardstock and patterned paper to the local school. I generally sell my used stamps and dies in 'mystery' boxes, and I've put some things in donation boxes (goodwill). I'm still working on how to best de-stash some of the larger tools and storage solutions I no longer use. Try not to think about it as money wasted, but as gifts you are giving to others, even if they're strangers. If someone gets use and enjoyment of it, even if it's not you, it's not money wasted. Good luck!

      Yes. LOL! I did all 3. I sold 'mystery boxes' through my Instagram account, donated/gave some to friends and also to schools. I understand that thrift stores love getting craft supplies too, so I will look into that next time I need to downsize! Thanks for watching!

    Kudos on the purge! It looks like you have both the large and the small Altenew blending tools. Do you also use their detailed blending brushes? I'm thinking of making the transition, but it's expensive! Any thoughts on the subject will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • @ardyth
      @ardyth  3 роки тому

      In that drawer, I actually have the small Altenew Brushes and the i-Crafter brush daubers. I do also have the large Altenew brushes which are fabulous for quickly adding ink to a larger area. I prefer brushes to foam, especially for use with stencils, since the stencils can damage a foam blender. I have one set of the Altenew detailed blending brushes, but haven't fallen in love with them. They are good for very small spaces on stencils, but I don't think they would work for blending an 'area', if you know what I mean. So much of this hobby is trial and error until you find what works best for you, so I wish you good luck! And thanks for watching!
