Get the bus certified as an “RV” through the motor vehicle department and the title changed to say RV, then the bus can be financed through any RV lender and yes up to 20yrs terms. I did this to my Transit cargo van, so now it’s a RV 👍
Non-standard vehicles are hard to finance (just like non-standard homes are). As long as you are making the modifications just for yourself it's fine. But once you go to sell, it's quite another story. A lot of questions come up:
- How old is this vehicle?
- How reliable is this vehicle?
- Were the modifications made by professionals?
- How do the mods effect crash test safety?
- How do the mods effect fire safety?
- How easy is it to fully insure this vehicle?
- If the loan goes into default how difficult will it be for the bank to sell the vehicle?
etc. etc.
Remember, "getting a loan" is actually the bank purchasing the vehicle themselves, and then allowing the buyer to purchase if from them in monthly payments. So the bank has to want to buy the vehicle, not just the buyer.
Some insurance companies won’t insure a bus converted to RV unless it’s professionally converted.
You are 100% correct. I hate to say it but the only way to sell self-builds is to a cash buyer.
I've been buying and selling stuff for 25+ years and one thing I learned early on is lots of people will say they are very interested or even say they will buy it only to get blown off. My experience is I'd say 98% of your emails about the bus are from people who are not interested in buying it. You need to focus on those who are serious. To me if you're a serious buyer then more than 1 email will be sent, if you're like me you'll send 2-3 before even talking price or showing. This way no one is wasting my time. Also don't get your hopes up until you have cash in hand. I honestly think this might be hard to sell right now, this economy is only getting worse and many people losing their jobs.
Soo true! We were trying to sell ours and like the previous email, 98% always had and excuse not to buy. Even if we thought, positive these people are interested! But not! Not to discourage you, you only need 1 buyer and as soon as that one person comes along…..your set! And it will happen!! You'll see
How much are you asking?
The elephant in the room is the videos they made showing the down side of the bus.
Years ago I was camping at Two Harbors CG on Catalina Island. There are Bison on the island that were left behind from a movie production from many years ago. I was sleeping on the ground (no tent). I woke up in the middle of the night and the herd was wondering through our camp. I was surrounded by Bison for a while , but thank God, none stepped on me.
We are enjoying your new van life journey -
We are FT for 2 years in an older class A diesel pusher, boondocking 95% of the time. We did find some Lowes will let you park overnight in the back of the store if you ask the manager - we’ve found that more often true than asking at Walmarts. Just another option for nights you are looking for a place :-).
BTW, seeing your van build caused my wife to ask if we should downsize to a van eventually. Sometimes our 36’ rig feels too big - nice job on your build.
- Tim
I guess if was just temp in an RV it mite feel too big
But perm?
36’ is awesome!!
The proper safety procedure when encountering an enraged bison is as timeless as it is obvious: Stop, drop, and roll!
I hope the bus sells soon. I love the way it looks. You guys did a fabulous job on the bus & van. Good thoughts sent your way.
it hasn't sold because its a piece of junk and a lot of good your good thoughts will do them send MONEY
A few years ago while visiting my brother in Michigan he took us to his neighbors to see his bison. His fence was made of welded 2.5" pipe, as the big boy ran up to us you could feel the ground shake, then you understood the size of the fence,
🦬 Bison, Antelopes and Coyote ummm all that you missed were Rattlesnakes and Big Foot 😳
I love how you take time to vlog points of interest plus a few fun facts 👍
See you next week 🇦🇺🐨🦘
That was a fun outing!! Thanks for taking us along!
Glad y'all didn't get a knock. I know while traveling out of my van, as long as your respectful to the officers and you leave if they tell you, you won't get a ticket. Always arrive late and leave early! And keep everything neat and tidy. Happy travels! I'll be getting on the road in January and be youtubing the whole thing myself! I'm so excited
Blast off ticking down!
Come here to Buffalo, NY! You'll see several Bison statues scattered around the thruway and in the city. They can't run at all......lol.
You guys have literally done the trip we just got back from. Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Dinosaur, Salt Lake (including Antelope Island). We also did Mesa Verde and Zion. Back in Florida for the holidays now. Hope you have some luck selling the bus.
Oh my goodness I thought he was joking now my heart was racing and I wasn’t there😮 glad ur back in the van see u next week 😊
Hang in there you two sweethearts. I believe your bus will sell when our $$ system gets cleaned up. PS a box of baking soda in refrigerator, will help with smells from not being used. And a cotton balls soaked with vanilla extract leaves a nice smell everywhere!. Much luck and patience. 😘😘
We were on; (Think it was named *Denny’s Trail* , in western Montana: Bison are a huge animal , looked like a train locomotive up above us, cresting the hill on the trail. We did the same thing as you, turned around and did not see it again. (Guess if we leave them alone, do not threaten, they may do us a favor and not chase us).
Hey Natalie, just remember, if that bison charges you all you have to do is run faster than Jimmy. ;)
This is my first video I’ve seen from you guys and it gained you a sub! Both of you seem like awesome people and enjoyed this chill explanation of your old and new rig. I’m building a dinosaur 97 Dodge currently. Cheers
They are fabulous people
Love your positive energy! Keep it up you two!
Enjoyed this travel, you 2 are so lucky. As always thanks for sharing. The big bus is ready to travel 👍
I love the both of you guys travel blogs
Thank y’all very much that very informative & educational ! ❤ it, been follow for the whole time the ups/downs ❤. Happy to see your vlogs back, so much !
I love your bus! And your van!😁😆
Praying for the right new owner for you Be Safe and Enjoy!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for your respect for the bison! I grew up in western Montana and we went to Yellowstone National Park on a regular basis. Your volg was a PSA on how to co-exist wirh bison. Kudos to you guys! Hope the bus sells soon.
We had an issue with selling ours too until we listed with tinyhouselistings. Ashley from there did an amazing job for us and sold our van as well. She filters through leads and helps people get financing so you know they're really serious. We highly recommend her! Anyways, best of luck with the sale, I'm sure you'll find someone in no time :)
Oh wow that sounds really nice! Thank you! The part where they help with financing sounds great. We’ve had a lot of people ask about that and I always feel bad not knowing how to help them.
How much do they charge to list with them or is it just a percentage of whatever it sells for?
Safe travels guys
Awesome video!! That is one of my main fears when I start hiking different areas is coming upon a dangerous wild animal!! Glad you guys were able to get out of there!!
Good luck on the bus!! Keeping my fingers crossed that it sells quick!!
So glad you got to have a 'joy ride' - such a lovely bus. Btw I'd love it but i live on a small Scottish island so not really practical! Hope it has new owner soon and lots more adventures. You two are such a lovely and talented couple. Your videos always make me smile - thank you. 😊
Thank you for such a beautiful sun set ❤
I'm late to the party....Your content is great and you make it so much fun. I love how you interact with each other, so much love there. Aww I loved seeing the bus, I missed it, but I get why you chose vanlife.
Great show
I hope you can get the bus sold soon. Safe travels.
gorgeous.. beautiful.. and the camper is as well.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff guys
I have a good feeling you'll sell the bus soon...
At least that's what I'm hoping for, it's time for the next step in your adventures. 😁😳
Best episode so far. Love the bison but you were smart to steer clear of them!
Of course, it's always fun to have a tale like Jimmy's to tell about coming face to face with something scary so unexpectedly. Happened to me with a black bear in Sequoia NP and I was never more relieved to get back to where there were people!
Y’all are amazing! The bus will sell when it is the right time. She’s in incredible condition...y’all did so well on her. I’m praying for a buyer that will love her as much as y’all. I love the space for the bikes in Pancake. So much love to you both from SC, Jane ❤🙏🏻
Happy your able to Enjoy the SLC area! Nice touch up’s on Saguaro. Spirits up she will sell shortly you Will be heading to warmer area’s Soon! All The Best, Happy Travels! Be Well Be Safe & Stay Blessed.
I loved that bus.
It is so good to see you I wish you would make it down to St. George Utah area I would really really like to meet up with you guys in person I think you’re awesome I think you made the right decision by downsizing going to the van instead of the bus you seem so much happier can’t wait to hear when you sell the bus I have told a couple of my friends as well but I know that we’re looking for a bus like that see you soon
Good luck.
About 45 years ago, my wife and kids were with me in the Teddy. Roosevelt north section for a picnic. A herd of Bison decided to join us around the picnic table. We quietly moved to the car and watched them slowly move on out of the picnic grounds.
If you are still in SLC when they turn them on usually another week I think, then the lights in Temple Square are very beautiful or where when I lived in SLC. I enjoyed going to see them every year I was there. Sad to hear the water level is so low, when I lived there it was indeed an Island but that was 20 odd years ago....
I'm sorry the bus hasn't sold yet. I've been secretly hoping that you would get it sold since the episode you put it up for sale. But honestly, I must say that it doesn't really surprise me that it hasn't sold yet and I won't openly admit my reasoning in public. I want you to have the best chances to make a sale. Good luck. Fingers Crossed..
Good luck it will sell soon.❤
At Yellowstone this summer we were at one of the hotspots. Went around the corner and a bison was 3 ft from us. There was a short partial fence between us. We just stood there and looked at the I think it was the mud hole and he just stood there. Several people were there we all just left him alone.
It's quite possible they had stayed the night before. While it seems like a stickler move to knock over two nights, places like Cracker Barrel and Walmart are finding the longer someone stays the more likely problems develop. So either the manager is keeping track or the cops are on their own? The bad apples are ruining it. They often knock the morning after night 2 and not in the middle of the night as a courtesy.
Yikes ! I was holding my breath! That was scary 😳
Have you emptied your water lines in the bus? Winter and all.
Enjoy.
OK so what's up. I'm 75 and it took years to develop a positive attitude. So many young people are so angry. Yo seem to have it so together. Always remember attitude determines a attitude. I wish you a great ride called life. Love you g.
We came very close to a black bear in the smoky mountains on a trail at cave’s cove. It was about 20 feet away.
Ya don’t mess with the buff!
Buffalo can also jump 6 ft high. Hard to imagine. Interesting video thanks for sharing. Have a good day 😊
I love how you share what you learn and your respect for nature.
Poor Salt Lake, water levels are So low. We were there in October.
Great Video! I hope you sell the bus soon!
Awesome videos sorry I’m so late
Great video. Hope you bus sells soon
Well done on the dramatic thumb-nail. Jimmy is so chill that I'm not sure if he could pull-off the concerned look, it would still look happy and content.
I appreciate your channel and this update. Peace and Happiness to you :)
Not trying to sound horrible because of the place your visiting, but I stopped at a remote lodge in Alaska for lunch and had a bison burger. It was awesome. If you get the chance try one. And hope your able to sell your bus soon
If you want to see bison and have great sights in one area go to Mt Rushmore area. Besides Mt Rushmore there are several parks and towns in the area. One is Custer State Park with lots of Buffalo that our dog wanted to go play with. Fortunately for us as soon as he got loose from us jumping over her lap to get out of van a lady walking nearby was able to grab his vest handle and keep him from being killed. He never made it near them. Also there is the town of Deadwood nearby that is famous. Sturgis, also several Indian Nations reservations that we were warned to stay clear of, so we did. Also an hour or two away from the area into Wyoming is Little Big Horn where Custer's cavalry troops were killed. Also the Badlands are in the area of Mt Rushmore to the east. We had a great time there last May.
You guys should feel extremely proud of the work that you have done, I am!! ❤
Dropping in to send love! Yeah banks won’t finance conversions. Has to be a cash deal
Just curious what kind of mileage you guys are getting in your new van? On average. Thanks really enjoy watching your channel!
Like your new van build.
How do you like your current refrigerator? I was thinking of buying one. Would you recommend?
Thanks in advance
What most don't understand is banks will not finance a self-built vehicle. It has to be a license shop that does the build. The banks will only finance the vehicle. So if the buyer does not have money to put down you will lose the money for the build.
This is a good proactive warning to anyone thinking about building a bus, they are very hard to resell due to the financing issues. Have you looked into having a third party appraisal done that might convince a potential buyer's bank to underwrite a loan?
$40,000 for a 25-year-old school bus that was privately converted no bank is going to lend on that even with an appraisal. It's not like it's a collector's item. And then you look at the fuel mileage and the price of diesel nowadays and gas I think they need to be more realistic with their price. People can buy their own school bus and convert it for a lot less than $40,000.
You may want to check out cross timber bison, you tube bison ranch where they interact cautiously with the heard. the main man ( i can't remember his name ) tells about them and explains what and why he does things. very good channel if you love bison.
We have a Bisen farm about 3 miles from us. They have atleast 100 bisen there
You two would be the coolest van adventurers if you rode EUCs( Electric Unicycles) specifically the most affordable one. Mten4. You would save so much space and tap into a new audience with the growing community of Euc riders
In my many encounters with bison, typically when they raise their tail it's to pass gas or fertilize the turf. Pawing the ground to throw dirt, snorting or bellowing, fake 'charges' toward you is more of a danger sign than just raising their tail!
It doesn’t have a Kelly Blue Book Value or an estimable liquidation value as collateral, so anything except a personal loan may not work with underwriting software. If people consolidate and/or rearrange debts, then cash-out refinance a new-ish vehicle loan or a mortgage, it will likely work if their credit rating and income-to-debt ratio allow. 🙏🏽💜🙏🏽
Don’t leave forward when you do the 360. It will help you get all the way around lol
Maybe come down a bit on the bus price for cash offers its hard to get loans for bus conversions older vehicle loans personal loans might be a good option do not carry a note there's to many what ifs that could happen cash and cash only unless there is something your willing to trade or part trades you'll sell it but we are heading into a pretty serious recession and it will be bad we'll get through it we've been there before.
Best of luck guys love the bus and the new van conversion
I used to live in out in the country in Missouri and heard coyotes all the time at night and my cat was out at night and they never bothered us or my cat at the time and actually at least the ones down there were very skidish and I used to shoot an empty bb gun and they would scram lol.
I’m Native American. I want to thank you 🙏🏽 for leaving the bison 🦬 alone
I have never seen so many people approach a very dangerous animal than the buffalo. THEY CAN KILL YOU.
You guys certainly go above & beyond duty. Most people don't clean up. I see alot of campers/rigs stay overnight at Cracker Barrel or Walmart. Please don't run; y'll r scaring me. B safe out there.
Reality of Life now. Cash is King. Find the buyer with best cash offer.....and run!! 😉
I was scared for you both. Could you smell them? LoL folks say they stink just wondering. Love this video.
Love watching your videos. We're in NM and went on a 2 1/2 month trip earlier this year. We visited Antelope Island and it was a nice place to stop. Oh but that water is stinky!! Seems like we've been visiting the same places recently. Safe travels!! YT: Seeking The Free Life
I really hope someone buys it for cash asap... sending my love from Austin Texas 🥰🥰🥰👍
Do you have a page listing the bus along with details about the bus, pictures and asking price? Thanks, nice bus and van you have there. Good friendly videos.
They have a link below the video description. Click more, and the listing is there.
Hello!!! Hope you two had a good Thanksgiving!
Sooooo you went to antelope island and only saw bison's and heard coyote's? No antelope's?
Wish I could afford to buy your bus, just to park it somewhere and live in it...I don't drive but I would love to live in it!!! I think it would make an awesome tiny home!!! NOT saying it isn't an awesome bus to travel in, lol...its just that I personally couldn't travel in it.... not being someone who drives.
Anyway.....where are you off to next? Maybe you did say where, but I don't recall?
Well safe and happy travels love bugs!!!
Catch you on the flip side ....lol
Much love and big fat hugs!!!
🍃🤗🍃
You need a 12v tv. I still have one.
Wish I had the funds I would buy it
Hi you two! Are you asking that much for the bus that a loan would be necessary? I was interested in it but thought it was long gone but pleasantly surprised to hear it is not! What is your asking price? I am in NM so could fly up and drive it back!
Hi! I was wondering if what you all have in your van is all you own or do you have other things you own at your parents place? And since the van is smaller than your bus did you get rid of or donate extra items? Thanks
hi guys
N/J fun vlog! I have my own 🦬 Bison story. Years ago, when my son was toddler and our Swedish family flew over for an Western American adventure. We just bought an old used pop-up Camper few weeks before. With about 6 people working around the clock, we repaired and upgraded the Camper. Patched and replaced sections of canvas. My dad and husband gutted out inside. Rebuilt cabinets, replaced ceiling and put in new floor. UPGRADE the electric wiring, the frig. and Rebuilt the heating system (3 electrical engineers in family). We completed it in weeks time. Son was left home with my parents. Off to Wyoming Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. 2nd morning in Yellowstone, woke up to screams from our tent ⛺ next to us. It was my 2 teenage nephews . We opened up the door,, to see a big bison laying right infront of our Camper door and front of the tent. My nephews needed to use bathroom, and unzipping the tent, found this big brown thing blocking the view. The bison stayed there another 4 hours. We also had 2 moose laying behind the tent. This was before having cell phones, to call anyone. My nephews still mention that day in Yellowstone. Coming from Sweden, we know enough about being around moose (what to do / not to get too close to them), but first time up close with a bison. Later that day, we told the Ranger what happened. He said, we were correct to be patient and stay inside the whole time, until Bison got up quickly on it's own and left. Signs were up everywhere to keep walking a distance away, from these animals, never to run. I had similar experience in Arkansas, with walking pass a black bear (a few feet away) in a parking lot next to a forest. I walked slowly to stand between cars. Another bear came out forest, and 2 bears walked down a trail. Scary, heart racing experience.
If i was you guys i would not sale it i love the bus
By the way....were you supposed to see Antelope at Antelope Canyon?? Lol
Bison meat is very good but I sure wouldn't want to try to outrun one of them! Hope you sell your bus soon so you can get on with your travels. See ya, from Central Oklahoma
Make no mistake elk or deer will fight back if they are provoked enough. The males in particular can be particularly aggressive during mating season.
Most Craker barrels tell you right off from the start that they allow 1 night of free parking. The ones abusing thi may be removed.
You guys planning on going to Skooliepalooza 2023?
Bison can weigh 3000 lbs +. As far running up to 40 mph, they can reach that speed in about 4 steps.
You CAN get closer, if you were closer to the van. My sister woke up with a complete herd of Bison around their tent, when we were at Yellowstone.
To peel out in my mind means to put down rubber or at least squeal. Is the van capable of a “peel”. ? 😅
You won’t be bothered by a knock at Cracker Barrel if Cracker Barrel allows it and you park in the designated spots. If spots are full I have asked the manager. There has never been a problem for us during 50 stays over the years. However if the police get a call about unusual activity at the Cracker Barrel or parking areas nearby then the police might investigate. After 10 years of retail lot camping we have never had a problem. Our experience taught us to generally park in areas where you have permission and a certain amount of safety. If you are not able to get permission call the local police. Someone is always there. Tell them your situation and ask if you can park overnight. Ask it is safe. We have had dispatchers tell us they will notify the patrol car for that area. If you’re in the boonies call the sheriffs office.
Life is not complicated!
I have the same inverter! In my bus.
Where is this u r parking your bus/van @? Just curious… lmk if u could 👍🏼 From the video I see it’s called “Makers Space”? 🤷🏼♂️
