  • This episode opens with a former inmate talking about the crimes he committed. The episode focuses on the Wisconsin State Reformatory in Green Bay, where inmates spend time contemplating their freedom and an uncertain future. The host talks about unemployment of former inmates and the rates of reoffending and asks the question: Does the prison prepare inmates for the problems they will face upon release?
Throughout the program, inmates talk about the frustration and apathy they feel, their desires for additional programs to prepare them to reenter society, and the failures of current rehabilitation programs. The narrator details current rehabilitation programs and prison overcrowding, and a social worker talks about differentiating between legitimate concerns of inmates and unrealistic demands. Other people involved in the criminal justice system express their views on rehabilitation programs in prisons and talk about improvements that need to be made.

The news used to be raw. You doing a great thing here. People gotta see the sht that's been conveniently and intentionally tucked away so they can understand the reality we all inherited.

Funny how criminals of the 70s sound more intellectually advanced than politicians of 2024.

That toilet in Gary Drago’s cell is horrific. Maybe the metal toilets that the jails have today are slightly better after all lol 😂🤷🏾‍♂️.

Lmaoo..Yes...i was grossed out when i first seen it..but after the first week.. you get used to that steel toilet slash water fountain.
We drink our water, Brush our teeth and piss and shit all out that steel toilet. The water be cold though.
When I got moved to the PEN we had a dorm bathroom with showers. And separate toilets for pissing and sitting.
The Gangs ran all the prison jobs such as cleaning the toilets and bathroom.
If you was messy and dirty dude..Depending on how much they respected you..they would pull you aside and tell you to tighten up.
I got pulled up a few times for being smelly...because i was in "FUCK IT" mode and i don't bathe when I'm mentally suffering.
If they didn't respect you...they will just whoop your ass.
I seen many dudes get beat up for being smelly and dirty.
We was begging to get sent to the Pen.
The Pen got way better food. We had our own prison issued Tablets to watch movies and order Commissary.
Commissary and Drugs is currency in Prison.
We was getting fucked up every night when lights out. K2..WEED..they was sniffing dope. I never touched the dope.
My bunk buddie died in his bunk around 2am from sniffing Fent laced dope. Right and front of my face. I seen his life leave his body. God bless his soul. Good dude..Muslim brother.
We called him UNC...he was so beloved..that the female C.O's was crying when they seen him depart. All of us was crying.
He helped me get a Public defender when the C.Os ignored me for a month into my time.
He showed me kindness and his death effected me greatly and will the rest of my life.
I seen him earlier that night before his death.. after dinner with that pill of dope in his hand.
I wish I could tell him don't do it.
The homicide squad and Tear Gas crew came and they cleared and shut down our tear and shipped us out to other prisons.
A very harsh but educational experience for me.
But God put me there for a very valuable lesson that needed to be learned and humble me.

@@HezakyaNewz lol at steel toilet/water fountain 😂👍🏾. Them toilets be cold as shit doe haha 😂😂. I never been to prison before tho. I only been to the County Jail a couple times. Your time in the pen sounds wild lol 😂. Sorry to hear about your Muslim friend. I agree wit chu about the God part though. I think he put us through that traumatic experience to teach us something to better ourselves. Anyway, stay free homie 💯.

@WalterWhyte Yes brother...thank you. each one teach one. My experience definitely sobered me up because I was wilding...and I came out and I'm doing great and should show others that people make mistakes...it's how you positively rise above the ashes of the destruction that your behavior caused is what allows for spiritual growth and redemption.

@WalterWhyte In Baltimore City..they had to give the inmates Tablets. We all can make phone calls from our tablets from the privacy of our bunks. The reason why..because the Gangs run the payphone.
There's 3 payphones on each tear. Each phone is ran by a different gang. You got the Muslim phone..the West Baltimore gang phone...and the civilian phone.
I seen a dude get jumped by the Muslim crew for using their phone. They beat that man damn near to death and kicked him out to P.C.
Dude just got on that tear..so he didn't know..but they wasnt feeling him or his demeanor.
I made a mistake one time and used the West Baltimore boyz phone...and they told me i cant use it. No arguments from my behalf.
I Said my bad and that was that. Because they respected how i carried myself...and just basically let me know its a violation for future reference.
So many gang wars and dudes getting damn near beat into comas over the phones..that they had to give the tablets to keep the violence down.
But they turn them off at certain times of the day. So we still had to use the payphones.

... Prison for Profit USA STYLE.... Why Would They Rehabilitate the Prisoner when the prisoner is Their Main Earner

    • @redsmoker37
      @redsmoker37 Місяць тому +2

Private prisons weren't that much of a thing in the 70s, though. That really took off in the 80s and 90s. The 70s were probably the liberal high water mark for trying to do something, rather than just being a money grab. AT least they could still smoke in prison.
Private prisons are just atrocious in their concept. Here's X dollars to run the facility. Whatever you don't spend, you can keep as profit. Which of course incentivizes providing the very least so there's more to keep.

Rehabilitation is up to the individual. You gotta be useless to depend on the state for anything if you're able bodied and young.
