The Cost of Discipleship | Mark 8:27-38
Jesus' disciples did not fully comprehend His mission. They believed He was the Messiah to be sure, but they were expecting a conquering king who would overthrow Rome. What they did not expect was that Jesus had come to suffer and die, and neither did they expect a similar calling to suffering and death.
In the passage for Sunday, Jesus is going to lay out the truth about what it would cost Him as the Messiah and also what it would cost the disciples to follow Him. As Jesus' disciples today, we are called to embrace these same costs to follow Jesus as the disciples of the first century did!
