thank you my breton friend this is probably the best rendition, and not some boring frenchmen singing it in a closet. let us die for god and for the king
If Comte Henri de la Rochejaquelin was the leader of the Vendeens here, then I don't understand why Charette appears to be more important. Charette was an honorable man, but I still think that Henri should have played a major role among the counterrevolutionaries.
@@jonharson I don't think he survived the Revolution. Many soldiers who fought against the Revolution were indeed granted a similar rank by Louis XVIII, but I don't think Charette survived to see the restoration.
@@NovaInquisicaoGN315 it is interesting because this flag is still used in a secularized context for Vendée department. Thanks to Philippe de Villers who has been a great advocate for Vendean history (Puy du fou attraction park dedicated to French history)
Pour Dieu et le Roy
I love this rendition. It sounds like something from an alternate WW1.
Almost wish it would be.
Imagine a France split in two between a monarchy and a republic.
@@MaitreKorda And then good Catholics from everywhere rushing to the king's defence! Vive le Roi!
You know what's worse, guys ? All three of your comments could actually have been true...
@@MaitreKorda France is under republican occupation alas

There was no clear leader, but severals, each commanding their own group/levies.
Charette was appointed lieutenant general of the kingdom by Louis XVIII
Henri de la Rochejacquelin was commander of the Catholic and Royal Army of Vendeé but he was killed in 1794.

Modern flag of Vendée, it's a heart with a cross, in honour of the Christian revolt.
