Tools for beginners:
Sewing needle: I usually use size 8
Sewing thread: Commonly used for sewing machines
Small Scissors: Use for thread trimming or simple fabric cutting

I started handsewing when I was 7 or so. I figured it out on my own. I made dolls and other things. I always wondered how other people sewed and if I was doing it right. You sew just like I still do. Yay! Proof I've been doing it right all theses years. Thank You.

Omg I remember the small plastic bottle, it used to be old camera reel bottles. I used to have them at home all the time when i was small, also the folding scissors, i own them too, so useful
We still keep a quarter filled plastic film container in our car's glove box. As if we'll ever come across a payphone or old parking meter...lol...or driving gloves.

Using thread scraps as stuffing is genius!
All of my thread snips and fabric scraps go in a bag. If I have too much to use, I tie off the bag, label it "rag" and drop it off at the Rescue Mission thrift store. They sell the rags to be reused.
