#andbytheway this object is a radio device from the time of National Socialism. In this video, Julia talks about the so-called "Volksempfänger" and critically examines its role in Nazi propaganda. Julia came to Berchtesgaden for her training as a carpenter, and her interest in history led her to the Dokumentation Obersalzberg. In addition to her work as a guide, she volunteers at "Café Zelig" in Munich, a meeting place for survivors of the Shoah. Since fall of this year, Julia has been pursuing her passion and studying history in Hamburg.

The People's Radio was similar to the Volkswagen, the People's Car. It too was supposed to be low-priced enough so that many people could afford to buy it, and many thousands of Germans enrolled in a program to have money withheld from their paychecks to accumulate in an account till there was enough for the purchase. None of these people ever received a VW, however, because the Nazis started the war soon after the cars were set to go into production, so the factory ended up making only military equipment and no passenger cars.
