He talks about the insurgent threat in the valley and to be sure they were hard, fast, and frequent especially in the early days. But hands down, the most dangerous opponents in the entirety of that Valley were the Korengali villagers themselves.
Great story. Interesting to see that ranger doctrine and how it carries over to real life scenarios in a terrain like Afghanistan. Everything METT-TC I guess haha

Just ran across this channel. I was a C.O.L.T. Team leader in this operation and mainly operated in the Korengal the whole time. The best of times and the worst of times.
As a former team leader, that made a combined decision that ultimately ended with two Kia, while our PSG,PL, and SLDR were away, I feel ya. Also 10 MTN, it was rough.

Yes and thank you for inserting nearly overrun. Most people assume wanat was overrun. VB Kahler, and Ranch house survived. It was one hellacious fight though for sure
I served in Kunar, but lets be brutally honest, what was the point of it all? We did manly, tough guy things for what is now a hedonistic, degenerate, and decadent culture/nation. The one true take away from that war is: humans are evil, lost, and we will endure all kinds of suffering for futile causes.
Kunar was a world of its own. Can’t say I don’t miss it. But you’re right, what was the point. Yes the people lived a better life for some time but they’re back to the same shit, the tali holds all of our old fobs/ cops and have our weapons…
