Over 100 years later and we are privileged to watch this all, the entire world, from the comfort of our homes. His work.. preserved for all eternity. Life is beautiful!
!!!!!
Georges was a man beyond his time. a true genius.
yes he is French
True
real fact 💯
Only a man in touch with his own imagination could produce such beautiful artwork/stories.
Many mythological symbols, a hero's journey, amazing special effects, beautiful scenography truly a masterpiece from 1903!
btw, this must've been a huge budget production compared even to 'The trip to the Moon'. So many scenes with different sets!
This is 1 year after "The trip to the Moon", he got recognized and had budget for bigger project, and brought to us this masterpiece...
Not following the plot line, just enjoying the visuals and the music, mesmerising!
Thought I'd seen all of Melies' best films, and this one proved I hadn't---really liked this, it had a genuine epic feels to it.
Fantastic,like a dream.
What a beautiful soundtrack. Really captures the feelling of the film.
many thanks!
The undersea world and its creatures is colorful and visionary; the sets and costumes here are probably Melies' best.
The contrast between B and W and colorixed features is beautiful!
He did afmit many of his films have been lost overtime. 😢 I can imagine thise would have been just as beautiful as this one
116 years ! Georges melies is inspiring writers and directors.beautiful movie.
Would it surprise you to know there's quite a few of this genre of film from around 1892 to around 1905? It was a big thing at the time and there was a general interest in fairy stories and myths at the time, as well. Many directors did it. Georges is one of the best, and definitely the most well known.
Did that absolute madlad just put a fish tank in front of the camera? I love it.
Georges Méliès was one hell of a pioneer in film. Amazing quality. I'm glad to see these reels so well preserved. 120+ years ago!
Fantastique!
Delicious! the sets, costumes, effects, oh my! the original composition is a perfect complement. great post
just finished watching movie Hugo. and just found out it was a true story! amazed!!!
for a moment i was wondering if THIS movie was a true story XD !
Shika Cendana really? You didn’t find out until AFTER the movie? Even though during the film they showed real footage of the real George Melies and his films.
By far, this is the best version, in score and colorization. Bravo, Monsier Melies! Bravo Steffen Wick
and Henschel Quartett. I am sure Melies would be proud for this music to accompany his "Kingdom of the Fairies."
I'm in love! So far my favourite Méliès piece. So much magic, imagination, joy and ingenuity. I like the music too, so far the most apt score I have heard, it underlines the magical aspect perfectly, thank you for making this gem even more luminous!
Wonderful music.
That was DELIGHTFUL!! :)
Being an artist, I also especially loved all the work that went into the fantastic scenery and the scene changes.
Gorege melies was a actor costume designer toy maker film director and maker a illusionist and theater owner and stage magician
It's like one of those photographic pictures but somehow....it moves!
Greetings from New Orleans. This film "Kingdom of the Fairies" will be depicted in the Endymion 2019 Mardi Gras parade "Wonder Tales of Science Fiction". Thank you for posting this beautiful 100+ year old film..
One of the most imaginitive and creative film makers that has ever lived
Magnifique.
What great work, ingenuity and talent! A great man with a difficult fate.
What a perfectly matching composition, especially during the fire scene - the music really brought the piece to life for me. Thank you for making this!
This was truly a fun watch, not my usual tastes, but the budget, time and effort that must have gone into this film in those times must have been tremendous!
Merci beaucoup 🙏🤔😘
Mesmerising; a genuine milestone of silent cinema!
OTRA QUE CINE EXPERIMENTAL !! UN GENIO DE LA IMAGINACIÓN Y EFECTOS ESPECIALES , HACE MAS DE CIEN AÑOS !!!
I watched the Scorsese film, Hugo, last night, a tribute to Melies' work. Johnny Depp was a producer. Cinema should never lose its adventurous and magical quality. Too many are about conflict alone.
Awesome!
I love it.
Aperture effects!.. But so clean.
Beautiful, thank you.
Genius!!
this is marvelous thank you for the posting 😊
i don't know what's going on but it's interesting to watch movies from over 100's ago
OLD HOLLYWOOD, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ELEGANT TIME TO HAVE BEEN AROUND, WOW. THE ARTSY PEOPLE THE FURNITURE THE CARS, MOST OF ALL THE FABRICS AND ACCESSORIES, CLOTHES. I HONESTLY DON'T BELONG IN TODAY'S WORLD.!!!!!!!!!!
Hate to break it to you, but Mélìes was French lol
Mélies gênio!!! soberbo, fantástico... o inventor dos efeitos especiais... bravo!!!!
Soooo beautiful !!!
Excellent music!
Beautiful, and hand colored
THere's some real wizardry for ya. .. .Love It. . .
Watching this because of Google honoring Georges Méliès today!
Beautiful! Could silent films be making a comeback? I hope so! :)
I'm here because of the Doodle too lol.
Also, if someone in Hollywood could sucessfully make a silent film but with todays tech/cgi/sets then that would be amazing :D
TVrawks301 well there is the movie, The Artist.....
I am not sure about silent films in general but slapstick comedy ones could.
I watched an interesting documentary about his studio and how he made the movies. Very fascinating mUnfortunately a lot of those movies are now lost. What a pity.
why are they lost?
Merveilleux, merci beaucoup
Fascinating, thank you!
Une joie, merci!
Un maestro indiscutible del género cinematográfico.
Wonderful and great film
amazing sets
Beautiful music☺
Enchanting!
Clever considering the year it was made.
Date 1903
A fantasy movie. Turn of the century style.
I am in awe. And its not just the sour tanji talking.
EPIC!!!
More a sequence of paintings than a movie
WOW
Captivating! I had to laugh at all the babies at the end...
Woah
The feeling when you know all this lobsters are dead
Just watched movie Hugo for the 2nd time since it first came out. Fun to see some of George Melies films on UA-cam. Did Melies use some of the moon men from Trip to the Moon in The Kingdom of the Fairies as well?
Way better that all the Star Wars movies.
The ship sure has pretty sailors.
I cried a little because no film can be thoroughly effused with such wanton innocence as a Melies production. All timer shit
so fckn stunning
I used to be upseste about this guy.
I’m picturing the person that sat with a magnifying glass pinched in their eye and painted every frame of this film by hand

Petrariu Aura (Izaura/ Isaura/ Issaura; ISSA/ ISA "I")
He was living in the 2000 in 1903
Films from the earliest years of the 20th century are not even close to how films are made nowadays

Todo un viaje iniciático, ¿no?
Alguien me podría decirme qué tan original es
Hugooooioioooiooiii
Howcome when i put this video on fullscreen, it slants and splits in twooo!!!?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!~!?!?!?
Was this music associated with the film, or just randomly paired with it here?
It was specifically composed for this film.
Is this the first colored movie?
was this film released in color?
no
Actually, yes. They were hand colored frame by frame.
It`s not truely coloured film
How exactly was the fire of the torches being captured?
