My favorite scene was part of the set up to meeting Kate. Seeing an actress on stage play Nat knowing it would have amused her but for him the actress caused his pain to come to the surface and then seeing the little Nat fan in the audience wave at him must have almost made him cry.
Love that scene. Did not catch the girl being a Nat fan (thought she looked more like Karli from FATWS). Just saw this as Clint having a problem with unwanted attention in general, and someone looking up to him when he feels like a failed hero.
@@lw1391 It works on a lot of levels. The little girl caught Clint's attention with her Nat red hair and hair style (cosplay light?) at a show about the Avengers. At movies like LOTR and comic cons you see it all the time.
@@lw1391 I had thought it just a different perspective and I agree with your observation being valid as well.Lots of things happening in Clint's head and with his kids in the mix he was trying to maintain but it was tough for him..
1:18 They also cut out the part from The Avengers (2012) showing Hawkeye running down to his last arrow, and hurting himself from that landing. Showing how in her eyes, he's that epic flawless hero figure
This was a great watch. I feel like the scene walking to Kate's job in Episode 2 is a great insight into Clint - I get the impression just as much as he is jaded he also doesn't see himself as someone to be admired, maybe because of what he did as Ronin or how he lost Nat or any other number of things. I also feel like MCU fans quickly forget (as most don't really pay attention to Clint) that we've seen this kind of parental attention mixed with a level of bluntness and sarcasm from him before - with Wanda. In Age of Ultron we have his tough-love speech he gives her when she's overcome with the guilt of her involvement in what's happening, which Kevin Feige even said is the scene that made him committed to a project with Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in the lead. Then we see it again in Civil War when Clint is the one to come out of retirement and go "rescue" Wanda from her captivity and, just like before, give her that push she needs to see the kind of hero she can be and overcome her fear and grief. We even get the see the pay-off come full circle in Endgame when it's Wanda's turn to comfort him, telling him she's sure that Nat already knows that her sacrifice wasn't in vain. Kate put it pretty excellently in Episode 2 - Clint sells inspiration. He might not know it, might not believe it, but he clearly does.
This is a great point, and to add to that, his wife called all of this early on in Age of Ultron when she talks about how the Avengers are basically gods and that they actually need a "regular" guy like Clint to keep them grounded.
Awesome video and cosplay, Georgia! It is awesome how you often cosplay as characters from the shows/movies you analyze. Your analysis is great too. Like you, I think that Clint and Kate will have a strong bond by the end of the show and I think it is great how, in spite of his frustrations, Clint shows compassion while speaking with Kate. Great video as always!
I love how much humor there was. Hailee Steinfeld has just such an amazing timing and expression for wry humor, and the two already have GOBS of chemistry. Love it. Also the rest of the cast is amazing. Tony Dalton is so fun as the infinitely suspect Jack Duquesne.
Was hoping for a Punisher vid but this Hawkeye content was insightful. I get why Kate sees the ‘average avenger’ as an icon seeing a mere mortal fighting the Chitauri with a caveman era weapon must be inspiring at that age. As for Clint he’s done this for a decade and lost a lot and is just trying to find peace his cynicism is a stark contrast to Kate’s glamorous ideal of the hero life that Clint has been through that this life cost him so much he lost friends he lost his family he’s had over ten years of pain. The duality of the theme of legacy is cool Clint has influences in both personas as Hawkeye he inspired Kate and as Ronin he’s inspired fear and vengeance among crime groups like the Tracksuit Mafia. Great vid always enjoy seeing a pro give their two cents about these shows and movies.
I love Clint and super excited about this series but Kate and her mother’s relationship really intrigued me, I mean they obviously have some problems. She gets super anxious when she found out her mother’s might be getting threatened by Armond. She wanted to solve the problem so badly that she even stalked him?? Its definitely not only because she’s curious, it is about her mum and she always have that feeling that she needs to protect her mom. I genuinely think other than Clint, the issue between Kate and her mother is also the highlight of this show.
I think young Kate is going to suffer additional trauma b/c I don't think the Battle of New York was what ended her father's life. Hawkeye will wind up being a surrogate father to her.
Oh SO VERY insightful yet again, Kate...I mean...Georgia. As always your cosplay game is ON point! I have no doubt that you have archery experience as a compliment to your martial arts experience. When I was eleven, my family was visiting relatives in B.C., my uncles car got stuck on a soft shoulder on a logging road and a bear appeared. My Dad stepped between me and the bear. "Don't worry. He probably just wants to help push" Dad told me. "How about it bear? You want to help push the car out?" The bear stood up on it's hind legs, then kind of shrugged, plopped down on all fours and wandered off. Dad smiled and winked at me. Epic brave, cool under pressure, and funny. My Goals.
Totally thought you were gonna get into Clint's psychology, particularly when he's watching the musical, though I guess that theme was also kinda covered with Kate losing her dad. Great video though. Looking forward to what's to come.
I hope you continue to do more of Hawkeye as the series progresses because the show continues to develop these characters ^-^ Hawkeye has become my favorite of all the marvel shows so far and this allowed me to see it from another angle. Thanks!
Excellent recap! One thing I would love your thoughts on: the scene in Episode 1 between Kate and her mother where her mother points out that Kate is both rich and young, so thinks she's invincible.
