  • A quick detour off the Calder Freeway between Bendigo and Melbourne to the Kyneton Mineral Springs is a tradition of many. The spring has been known in the area since 1887 and is still used by both locals and travellers.
Nowadays you jump out of your car for a stretch and bring with you some bottles to capture the bubbly liquid from one of the two hand pumps.
Kyneton is well known for its many natural mineral springs.
If you'd like a free taste, head west along Piper Street until you reach a service station. Across the road there's a picnic spot with a rotunda and a self-serve mineral water tap.
Pump it for a taste, or fill your empty drink bottle with the fresh and salty carbonated stuff. The water is an acquired taste for some. But it's the spot that is fun and provides a rather pretty view over vast farmlands beyond, nonetheless.
If you're taking some water with you, drink it quickly. Once oxidised, the water turns brown and while it's still drinkable, it doesn't look so appetising.
A large open space reserve with a diversity of play equipment catering for toddlers through to older children.
The reserve is highly visible from the surrounding area and includes two mineral spring water pumps, picnic tables, barbecue, toilets, car parking, and lots of large trees providing good shade coverage throughout the reserve.
The reserve also has free overnight parking (for up to 48 hours) for Recreational Vehicles (RV) and caravans. Limited overnight parking spaces are available and are offered on a first come, first served basis.
    REST AREAS VICTORIA
To help drivers take regular rest breaks, truck stops and rest areas are located throughout Victoria.
The Rest Areas in Victoria are divided into the following types:
Rest Areas: These are public parking areas that are located off the road and provide the driver with the opportunity to take an extended rest break. Most provide a range of services. In most cases they can accommodate larger vehicles.
Roadside Stops: These areas are designed for shorter rest break, such as to take a power nap and may include parking space for light vehicles only.
Truck Parking Areas: Are primarily for Heavy Commercial Vehicles, and should only be used by other vehicles in the even of an Emergency.
Car & Truck Parking Areas: These areas are designed for both light and heavy vehicles, they are designed for shorter rest breaks, such as to take a power nap.
Please note: Rest areas are not designed to be camping grounds or caravan parks. Using rest areas for multiple overnight stays as part of a planned itinerary is not in keeping with their intended purpose. Those needing facilities for an extended stay are encouraged to look for camping areas or caravan parks in towns along the way.

The Australian white ibis (Threskiornis molucca) is a wading bird of the ibis family, Threskiornithidae. It is widespread across much of Australia. It has a predominantly white plumage with a bare, black head, long downcurved bill, and black legs. While it is closely related to the African sacred ibis, the Australian white ibis is a native Australian bird.

Any visit to Kyneton must include a visit to the Country Cob Bakery. Regular winners of the Australia's Best Pie awards 👍
