    📜 object history:
Benedictine abbey in Tyniec with the church of St. Peter and St. Paul were founded in 1044 by prince Casimir I the Restorer (although some researchers are in favor of a slightly later foundation of his son, Bolesław II the Generous). It is probably the burial place of king Bolesław II the Generous († 2/3 April 1081 or 1082), his son Mieszko Bolesławowic († 7 January 1089) and duke Zbigniew († around 1112 or 8 July 1113). In the second half of the 11th century, a complex of Romanesque buildings was built: a three-nave basilica and monastery buildings. In 1259 the monastery was destroyed during the Mongol invasion. The current appearance of the church is the result of a series of later reconstructions, especially the 15th-century Gothic (with the remains of the Romanesque building also largely represented), as well as the 17th-century Baroque.
