Honestly if by the time they fought under Muay Thai Rules I say that the clinch , elbows and knees are the least of the problem. @@flowrepins6663 Yes. Muay Thai is not a Kickboxing rip-off. However, that's not how everybody around the world saw it 60-70 years ago. Regarding to the Thai culture, you can call the first name without any sense of impolite. From the view of Thai audiences it's more familiar to call him Changpeog (White elephant) rather than Keitsongrit ( the name of his gym not his surname ; the tradition of Mauythai fighters)
“When two men are fighting, what you’re watching is more a contest of wills than of skills, with the stronger will usually overcoming skill. The skill will prevail only when it is so superior to the other man’s skill that the will is not tested.” Constantine D’Amato
Very good video! Your view to narrate the positive aspects of fighting is incredible. Although it’s not a very sportsman-like perspective, I would like to point out that I think at 4:36 after the “superior knockdown”, after they connect Rick goes for a low kick aimed at the FACE, WHILE the Thai fighter is falling. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it connected, and it was the kick to the face and not the super man punch that broke his jaw I believe this is the reason why the low kicks, illegal stomp and illegal throw were thrown out. He really wanted to teach Rick what it meant to try something like that Thai Fighter and thereason why he continued the low kicks. He was extremely disrespected that his opponent would try something like that and decided to teach him a lesson, ingrained in his knees
he clearly pulled it and it didn't even touch him. also kicks and knees to the head when a fighter is in transition are legal and they do it in muay thai all the time. while changpuek actually stomped on a completely horizontal, on the ground, roufous. which has never been legal in muay thai or kickboxing. changpuek acted shamefully in this matter, perhaps still angered by rufous breaking his jaw. not all muay thai fighters are honorable zen masters. they are human too.

Honestly if by the time they fought under Muay Thai Rules I say that the clinch , elbows and knees are the least of the problem. I think the biggest problem would be getting your kicks checked , since in American Kickboxing you kick with foot that would mean breaking your foot after hitting a shin of steel.

@@jeremyjames2643 Okay, but with Rick's evasive style the Thai landing knees and elbows is unlikely. I don't think this fight's result takes away from American kickboxing at all.
I think it will be pretty cool if someone made this into a movie that is based on a true story of one of the greatest fights on history
Man, it would be awesome to see two fighters, each with their own fighting styles, fight with no restrictions, meaning both fighters would fight using their full arsenal.
you can do that in mma. and ufc 1 sort of showed bjj is mostly likely the best style other than mixed styles
The american fought with no restrictions, full arsenal, and still lost badly to a very limited thai fighter
That would end very badly for the kickboxer. Imagine eating a hard muay thai elbow when youve never taken one before yikes
I seem to remember from watching this years ago that at the conclusion of the final round when Rick was laying on his back and groaning in pain the ref pushed up his pant legs to examine his injuries to reveal that Rick was wearing plastic soccer shin guards.
Whaaaat?😂
Don't seem possible... Chyangpuek should have noticed that on his kicks
Shattered shin guards.

That made his loss even funnier

This fight was one of the most important part in Thai history as it was thd beginning of Muay Thai rising of popularity after 20 years of humiliation from being called a "Kickboxing rip-off" thanks to those Japanese businessmen stealing our art.
how was it called rip off if it came before? not to mention had elbows, clinch, knees and low kicks not existing on kick boxing. american kickboxing was more of a mixed of karate kicks and classic english boxing..
@@flowrepins6663 Yes. Muay Thai is not a Kickboxing rip-off. However, that's not how everybody around the world saw it 60-70 years ago.
For 20 years from 1960s to 80s, Muay Thai was totally forgotten and ignored as Kickboxing start to become popular in the west after it being promote by the Japanese. Worse, as MT fighter start to take the fight outside their country. They would get insult by critic, audience or even narrator for using "a kickboxing technique from Japan" when they take Muay Thai stance and style. Regarding to the Thai culture, you can call the first name without any sense of impolite. From the view of Thai audiences it's more familiar to call him Changpeog (White elephant) rather than Keitsongrit ( the name of his gym not his surname ; the tradition of Mauythai fighters)

I also wouldn’t be surprised if it connected, and it was the kick to the face and not the super man punch that broke his jaw
I believe this is the reason why the low kicks, illegal stomp and illegal throw were thrown out.
Both are very great fighters salute
Low kicks were well known in Europe at that time. It was 1988, not 1968.
this. only the pussyfied american kickboxing had no low kicks. dutch style is a different story.
@@m.y.5360 Dutch style is superior to american kickboxing no doubt about it.
Many modern referee's would have stopped the fight in the first after Rick dropped him twice. You don't see recovery like that very often.
It was impressive, but they had to cheat by stalling after the first round.
The first "drop" was Rick Cheap Shot Roufus breaking his jaw on purpose. About the same as sticking a thumb in someone's eye.
@@James-re6co How are those two things equivalent? Is punching to the jaw illegal?

this is exactly why when people talk about who would win vs Bruce Lee. KickBoxer stand no chance once in the ring if there were no restrictions.
It’s like this person who challenged me to an arm wrestling, ( right arm) talked crap saying he almost beat me. I told him I’m Left handed.
When I was 12 years old starting martial arts training in the 80’s in Vietnam, my master made me stood in form in high middle and low forms for 3 months, 30 minutes to 1 hour each, I hated it, legs shaking after 5’ and didn’t understand why while my partners sparing, now it’s fundamental! ... then later we kicked into brick shafts... hurting like hell... my goodness!
