  • Part three of the HPIv2 DVD is an HKS All Japan street drag meeting at Sendai Highland, Tohoku Japan. This segment shows the Pro Class cars on drag slicks, including the HKS R33 GT-R and JZA80 Supra twin turbo V8
The High Performance Imports DVD series was produced by Ben Ellis, first at Express Publications and later at Otomoto. This second edition was originally released on VHS in 2001, then re-released on DVD in 2003. At the time English-language videos about the Japanese tuning scene were very scarce, but drag racing and drifting were approaching their peak. A lot of the JDM trends you see today actually started around this time.

Yeah old skool, but those Toyota V8’s on boost sound porn! And I’m a rotor head! Still dream of building a TA-22 with one jammed in it for the streets.

skrrt skrrt 🤘🏻hell yeah, it’d be a beast. I don’t care about having the numbers those two were putting out, just the raw sound that the Blast Soarer pumped out while pulsing the throttle, idle and building up boost. Ya would need to be pretty crazy or sure ya had a quick ride to wanna go something sounding that mad next to ya at the traffic lights.

@@jakerubino3233 definitely in my opinion streetcars shouldn't be more than a good 500 550 hp i think that's more than enough for a fun road car but it definitely would be sick 🔥

skrrt skrrt exactly right. That’s why I daily an 82 rx7. Light and very responsive, big Weber carby on a classic lumpy extend port 13b. Makes quite a few big $ and big power cars work hard till well past the legal limit. The TA22 is a light Celica, I had one as my first car many years ago, and with the 1600 and some bolt on parts, she used to rip. Now shoe horn in a 1U or 3U and the rest of the essentials and yes the weight goes up, but that’s a good thing as I guarantee a deal of it is the cage, bigger stoppers and all else needed to keep it safe and where I live, legal. But a car under a tonne with anything north of 300rwhp is starting to be a seriously quick car. To get the sound of either those two in the video, which is the main reason I’d ever burn the cash doing it, they would need to be at least 5-600 hp as they must be stroked to have the grumble and deep bark, and have big turbo/s. Stock, they sound very different but make considerable power, so it’d be all in or nothing. Big $, finding a suitable TA to start with, big $ engineering it to be street legal and balanced to take a v8 where a sub 2lt is made for, and to build that donk, ya not getting it done any cheaper than 10k by someone that can pretty much reverse engineer that old and still quite unknown spec. But I’d love to do it one day. Hardest thing for me is getting the permission from the boss lol

@@jakerubino3233 that's really cool dude i also had a rotary an rx8 with an aftermarket upgraded 3 inch exhaust and a tune it made 320 wheelit was pretty damn quick, i was in the process of installing new Atkins competition seals for the motor because i had actually managed to supercharge it, unfortunately a few days before i could finish it my neighbour set my garage on fire out of jealousy and my entire life's collection of my, biker badges and tools got completely destroyed as well as a new subwoofer enclosure i was working on for the car, but worst of all my car got completely destroyed, front end absolutely melted so now when i see a rotary i get absolutely heart sore.
