      If you change a IC, please use a ic-foot. If the next time a ic blows, it's easier to replace ;) another thing I noticed. You used shielded cable for signals bu you don't use the shield, please connect the shield, most vfd's come with a shield tray I hope (on the machine) the cable between the vfd and the spindle is shielded.

      @@Damicske If I had one handy, I would have. Thanks for the suggestion. I connected the step/dir shield to the body and connected the VFD shield signal shields to the DC Ground. Never leave the shields unconnected as they will become antennas.

    I've got the same problem on my unit except mine was the Z. Performed the exact test you did except the controller. I've ordered a replacement and now I'm confident that the controller is defective. Thanks for confirming that for me. Your videos are fantastic, keep up the good work.

    You seem like a knowledgeable fellow, I am running a SCM pratix S15 C and Im having a strange problem, my machine wont calibrate and it will only jog into the negative on all axis.

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  2 місяці тому

      The jogging in only one direction seems like a lose direction signal wire between the driver and the controller. The calibration can be many things, but I don't know the SCM Pratix so I won't be able to help with that regard.

      @PatrickHoodDaniel Thanks for the quick feedback, you'd think a big machine with the bells and whistles would be a little more user friendly.

    Needed this today. I have been unable now for a few weeks to get my setup working. After watching this, I was confident I could get it work. After trying everything you showed, it did not work. Very disappointed, I tried a different PC, and low and behold, it works. Windows 11 was the culprit. I was tempted to upgrade my PC to Win 11, and took the bait. My other machine is Win 10...

      Wow! That's awesome. This may be the first time a solution came so quickly after a video submission! Well, even if my video didn't have a direct contribution, I am very happy you were able to get it to work. I'm not sure why it doesn't work with W11 however. It should.

      @@PatrickHoodDaniel I've run into an issue, so may have to get a few tokens. I've tested each drive independently. Only one drive/stepper connected at a time and each drive connected by itself works just fine. But as soon as I connect a second drive, neither works. Ever seen this with a Pokeys56CNC BOB? I have a v2.2 board and a v1.5 board, and have the same issue with both. I'm running Mach 4 hobby over ethernet right now. I have the same issue with USB. :(

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  Рік тому

      @@retired_badger Have you tested the voltage output when both are connected? This could be that the two drivers are drawing higher current than the power supply can supply. You can test this by adjusting the dip switches to reduce the amps setting on each driver and test again. You will notice in my previous videos, each driver gets its own power supply. This is not absolutely required. What is the rated voltage and amps of your power supply?

    Excellent video that anyone working with Steppers and Stepper Drivers should watch.
    My DM-860S drivers Red LED is always on. This, I believe, would indicate a too low or too high voltage input. I have check that it is between the rated 24-110v DC. Anything else I should check? Thanks. Regards.

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  9 місяців тому

      Check the current setting. If the current setting is too high for the winding, once engaged, it will fault with the red indicator.

    So why does npn sensors need a resistor in parallel?

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  9 місяців тому

      For this particular controller the voltage needs to be limited and these are the specification from the documentation from the controller. The value of the resistor will relate to the voltage required for the sensor.

    Sir I have chinese cnc machine little old 2017 on that time it comes with mech3 drivers. I upgraded with a11 dsp controller myself but in some point it will sounds like vibrating in the stepper drive, I don't know what is the exact problem it only sounds in some position if I move the machine it will be normal if I move to same position it will come again what I have to change... This machine is having stepper motor drivers...

    • @PatrickHoodDaniel
      @PatrickHoodDaniel  4 місяці тому +1

      When you say it is vibrating in the stepper drive, do you mean the stepper motor is vibrating, or the stepper driver is vibrating? If it is the stepper motor, which I think may be what you are asking (since I can't think of anything inside of a driver that could be vibrating unless it is one of the drivers with a built-in fan), it could be a wiring issue where there is a short that presents itself in certain machine axis positions. It could also be an EMI issue. Does this happen with certain components on, or off? for instance, does this happen only when the spindle/router is running, etc.

    • @rameshrk7531
      @rameshrk7531 4 місяці тому

      @@PatrickHoodDaniel the stepper motor itself vibrates sir i am assuming it is EMI issue because it does't come with EMI filter if I add EMI filter then the problem will resolve i don't know.. and it vibrates all time even though all the equipments are off only machine switched on.
