Hi I just purchased sony sl-hf1000D a Japanese Betamax Unit. Can you let me know how good is this VcR.?and in case if I have nay troubles , can you service it..?
I would love to get a Betamax VCR sometime in the future. If I can go on eBay and find a Betamax VCR that are non-working, I will have to do some restoration to get it to work. I have my Samsung VCR/DVD recorder combo and it still works, I got these homemade VHS tapes that I got at a thrift store yesterday for free. I have about 10 of them, since I have not recording cartoons and TV shows in a very long time, I decided to do so. I hooked up to my PS3 console and I test recording that thing, including a clip from the "Super Mario Bros. Super Show" which is on UA-cam. I record it and I played a clip and it does the rest. Now I can record cartoons that I missed from my childhood.
I just got in an SL-HF750 and am trying to fix a no rewind problem. The big problem with this model is the moveable table holding these components. The 4 screws on the board with the pendulum can't be removed without partially opening the deck. Two of the screws are blocked by a metal bar when you turn the deck over. I did have it open at one point but now it's decided to be finicky and won't open at all! Going to take a break before continuing. Another neat idea but poor execution by Sony of the day...
Very informative video. How do you fix a faulty hall effect sensor on the drum? On my machine, the head drum does not turn at all. I know parts are hard to come by, but is there a modern substitute available? Thanks in advance.
The only way to repair that fault is by replacing the hall effect sensor. If you're lucky you may fix the problem by just scraping the glue off without the need to change it.
Nope! The SLHFR70 has the insides like you show. Did the whole of what was on this video including not taking the screw out of the back tension piece, put the oil where you said, made sure everything moves freely, put back together in the order you said. Same problem. Tape loads part way, then stops and the motor sounds like it's trying to complete the load cycle but never gets there. Any idea what else might be the culprit?
hi appologies for this but the sony pendulum idler .......are they readily available over in the states as we can longer source them in the UK do you have any links i could order a replacement your help is most welcomed regards Darrell
Well, now I'm stuck. The SL-2710 has an electronics board over top of the motors and it doesn't want to come out. Also, the motors are covered by a plastic cover to keep out dirt I imagine. That also doesn't want to be removed. So, for now, I can't go any further. Might have to wait for a friend who is a far better tech than I to arrive to help me with this. Thanks for the vid though...
Good video but you failed to mention when removing the capstan shaft there are two thin washers top and bottom which will now be loose as you failed to make sure they went back on the shaft !
+paymydues Thanks for the comment. yes your correct i noticed a few points i should have pointed out but if you pull the capstan Shaft you are correct make sure to place all washers back were they Belong.
Hawley Griffon I have the same HRF70 with very low and muffled audio coming from Adio RCA out. I already cleaned audio head but it still same problem. Any ideas?
Garedot Fixed, I just clean Audio head again but this time with too much light in there to make sure was clean and found head with sticky stuff on it, then cleanned it again and over and over, now I have great audio back in bussiness
Perfect example of those who can't do, teach. You're out of your element. This is not how to repair the mechanism. You're giving people false hope, making them think it's so easy.
Why don't you go fu*** yourself. Afraid of loosing business? I guess now you won't be able to charge your clients $200 for reoling a mechanism or changing the belts...

Parts are no longer available. You would need to search for a broken deck and use that as a donor machine.
I have Sony SL-HF360 betamax like yours. The problem is that it has shaky video issue. Any suggestion? Please help. Thanks.
