My friends always said I was crazy, that she was purple in CE. I tried to explain that she changes colors, she is purple, but she is also green sometimes. But they didn't believe me. They thought I was just misremembering. When CE came to PC I was glad to be finally vindicated.

It is interesting reading these different reactions to Cortana's various color states. My first time playing a Halo game was a 'cracked' PC edition of CE which was passed around between the student laptops at my high school back in 2008 or 2009. My first reaction to green Cortana was just "Oh cool." and just keep playing. Certainly wasn't freaked out since I was a sophomore in high school and I had watched shows and movies like Star Trek, Star Wars, and ReBoot all of which had female characters that were green in appearance. Now that I think about it Cortana in CE seems to have a slight resemblance to Dot Matrix from ReBoot. I wonder if any of the devs for CE was inspired by that 3D cartoon which had its main broadcasting run from 1994 to 2001. A friend of mine holds green Cortana to be his favorite edition of her of all time with religious-like devotion. When the Master Chief Collection finally released for PC on Steam, we played co-op campaign together and my friend played most of the game with original graphics and sound so that he could see classic green Cortana again.

Before that Cortana was already on the Autumn and the Autumn actually never landed on Reach. And also with the retconned Storyline, Cortana still chose Chief as her partner, 6 was only choosen to transport her from the lab to the Autumn, because she deemed he has the best chances of success.
I always thought that since John was “raised” by Halsey he may feel the same way Jorge does “I’ve been all hers half my life.” And clearly Halsey sees the Spartan 2’s as her “children” especially John, that Cortana got her feelings about John from Halsey. That does make sense and when you watch the opening of Halo 4, you can clearly see that Doctor Halsey is protective of her Spartans especially John and she even brags about him. That goes to show how much she cared for him.
They didn’t know each other for long which makes their strong bond even more special. Maybe going many close to death situation together plays part in that (we don’t know about their exact struggles from gameplay parts)

The thing was before Halo reach the game was made. I believe the first 3 books were cannon. However over time when Halo Reach was released it diverted from the plot of the books but when 4 an 5 came out the new books would tie in lore from there. So when Halo 1 came out an the books came out. It really gave incite to the backstory of some characters. Which really isnt too shocking. Plus Cortanna picked chief from watching him in Combat anyway. Also think about the Arbitor. He called Chief friend even though they didn’t know each other much. However when in combat an battle. A bond really can forge on the battlefield watching each others backs. Im sure people in marines,ect.. would agree. The other thing is the time between missions. Unless im forgetting if dates between missions would be there then this is irrelevant but they probably chatted a lot. Stuff we assume probably happened. Anyway this doesnt change my thought about Halo. However after reading “fall of reach” an listening to quotes in Halo 3 then realizing that they were qoutes from the books really blew my mine more then this just saying.
Lets be honest 43 days of actually talking and being with someone is alot.. My girlfriend who ive been dating for over two years. I see her 2.5 hours 5 days a week at school during lunch and 2 classes and we only see each other for an extra 3 hours after school 2 days a week. Thats 1017 hours a year. In days thats about 42 days. So threw the last two years we have been dating we have only spent a total of 84 days of actually seeing and being able to speak with each other. And considering chief would probly spend at least 4 hours a day sleeping id say hes been seeing her and speaking with her around the same amount using the same math as i have for around a year. So id say those numbers seem about right and shouldnt change your view on there relationship that much so dont be worried, and thats not even counting the fact i dont even work full time. That should change youe view on relationships as a whole if you think abiut it like this. If you worked 8 hours a day and so did your girlfriend i bet you would see each other even less then i see my girlfriend. So chief is seeing cortana in 43 days almost half the same amount ive seen my girlfriend in 2 years. Exactly, she has been with him through this war with Chief while also sacrificing herself for him and mankind in attempt to hold back the flood. Chief and many others saw Cortana as something more than just a smart AI they saw her as an actual being, we even see her act more human as each game goes on as she shares emotions with those around her especially with Chief and proving that she broke the barrier of just being another computer. I think Halo 3 is where she expressed the most feelings (at least for me because I haven't played anything after 3 because I'm waiting for the Master Chief Collection to be updated on PC) since we see her showing signs of pain and when Chief finally finds her she showed signs of happiness and relief while also showing disgust when she told Chief "can we go now? I don't want to be here anymore." Which, if you ask me, shows that she is special especially since Johnson told Chief to never let her go as his last breath. Spending that much time with something this advance to where it's like you are sharing an experience with another person is definitely a way to build a strong bond, especially if both of your lives have been at stake multiple times while saving each other.

Well she was created in 2549 and until 2552 she was mostly just working with Halsey, looking for a suitable candidate to work with, and waiting for the Mjolnir mk V to be finished.
Ajxx 99 no... not even a little bit. She was made from a clone of Dr. Halsey’s brain. It’s why when Cortana starts having issues she starts saying things only Halsey ever did (“You like games? So do I.”, The whole naval code thing, etc.) and her first words were something someone once told Halsey. In Halo Reach she was just trying to figure out the Forerunner stuff.
I recommend Halo: First Strike. It does the following: 1.) Covers the events between Halos 1 and 2. 2.) Further's Chief's relationship with Cortana. 3.) Explains why Sergeant Johnson is still alive. 4.) Explains how Dr. Halsey survived Reach. 5.) Gives us more characterization for Blue Team, of whom survived Reach with Halsey. 6.) Pretty much sets up Phase 1 of why Halsey ultimately became a slave to ONI, events to be followed in Ghosts of Onyx and then later Glasslands. 7.) Shows ingenious space miliatary strategy, especially involving geosynchronous orbits and the like. 8.) Oly, Oly, Oxen free.

Cortana knows Chief due to having Halsey's memory and consciousness. That is why it feels like they know each other from a very long time at least from Cortana's perspective. Halsey knew Chief even before he was abducted by Oni. So basically these 47 days are like several years of her knowing Chief! One of the best duo's in Gaming History. Period.

I remember the first relationship I had with a girl lasted a bit less than 2 months, and we formed a pretty deep bond before the shit going around us finally split us apart. Seeing this kinda reminded me of the saying "The candle that burns twice as bright, burns half as long". Though it may hurt, or end poorly, anyone lucky enough to experience something that intense and deep is already living more than most people I've encountered.
Keep in mind that Master Chief almost never sleeps when he's active and not in cryo. It's not like he's hanging out with her for 16 or so hours and then getting a solid 8 hours of shut-eye. He's awake and in high-stress, life threatening situations non-stop with Cortana in his head until he goes back into cryo
I don't think friendship is quantified by the amount of days you hang out. Even when Cheif was in cryosleep, or even when Cortana was stuck in high charity, they thought of each other. They were on each others mind.
It’s about the amount of time that matters, it’s what happens in that time. You can become lifetime friends with someone you’ve interacted with in a total of 2 months, and yet never get pass being acquaintances with people you’ve known for years.

They biggest relationship build up was happens in halo 2 i think, in halo legends while master chief sleeping in cryo chamber cortana was learning a lot about master chief and the other things until she was obsessed or falling in love with him

There is more to it than that. Cortana's ability to calculate and process at a rate we can't even comprehend probably helped her get to know him and his abilities better. He became so reliant on her that losing her was like losing a piece of himself. Beyond that, he was traumatized by the loss of his fellow Spartans and was desperate to not lose her, too. She was his only connection to the people he grew up with. They spent so much time together that it's natural they formed a bond. Spartan IIs were taken as kids and raised together with nobody else until they were young adults. They didn't have true social skills outside of other warriors. In a way, both Chief and Cortana needed each other to function and survive. Beyond even that, Chief was Halsey's favorite. I can't remember for sure, but I believe he was the only candidate for the program that she truly invested in and was personal with. She went out and met him personally at the beginning of Eric Nylund's "Halo: The Fall of Reach" and feels some regret for doing so, as she wasn't supposed to get that involved. Cortana IS Halsey and vice versa. The connection between Chief and Cortana is something that had been in the making for decades. Halsey wasn't surprised that Cortana felt so strongly for Chief pretty much immediately and that she picked him. It's right there in her coding.
Halo 6 Theory- In the Halo 6 Trailer the pilot said “ We lost everything.” So what I think is that the Infinity was destroyed and the Master Cheif got out before it was destroyed . The pilot could be one of the Pilots who escaped the Infinity.The Pilot has been trapped in space for god who knows how long.

The Biggest fact being that Dr. Halsey LEARN about the Spartans 3 in the book halo ghost of onyx or grassland ( i'm reading Them afin to know exactly when) and more than that, she learned that Ackerson was studying her files about the Spartans 2 project on halo First strike, the 3rd book of the original trilogy that came out same Time as halo:CE... And, just so you know, the events in first strike are after the battle for installation 04 (halo:CE)
Mjolnir armor require genetic modification both mentaly and physocaly to be used. IT kills a normal human within 5 sec of use... And Reading the books Will Tell you that spartans 3 was making expendables Spartans... Made to be cheap and affordable...
You get to know people while going through things. And she was in his head, that's probably the closest any two people could be, and even though chief was in cryo for 4 years without her, she was active those 4 years, and probably had time to understand him more.
I think that since Cortana is basically a clone of Dr. Halsey, her relationship with Chief is already a step forward because of Halsey relationship with Chief. I mean, obviously Cortana and Halsey aren't the same person but Chief feeling toward Halsey and Vice versa made Cortana and Chief relationship grow much faster.
Cortana was created by Dr Halsey, if you stop and think about it Cortana has memories of Catherine. Her relationship has lots back history and inbuilt knowledge and affectionate mother type protection traits.

Master Chief: "No." Cortana: "So, what's the plan?" Master Chief: "I'm going to finish counting to 10." One of their earliest exchanges, and still one of my favorites.
To be fair neither slept or separated throughout the entirety of the times they were together rather than normal friendships which develop over short meetings scattered over a long period of time. Scientifically it takes 200 hours of interaction on average for people to become best friends, the 47 day minimum is 1128 hours give or take a few, which is a massive amount of time to spend with someone consecutively. This is all strengthened by the fact that she was literally in his head, along with the experiences they went through as things like shared combat and life or death situations are also shown to increase chemistry between people.
It's a matter of percentages though. The A.I. live such short lives. And she watched him develop from the sidelines in addition to her other duties. It may only be a couple of months for Chief due to cryo, but it was literally all of Cortana's life that she knew and watched over the Spartans. Plus, being based on Halsey's brain, one could postulate that maybe Cortana was wired to care greatly for the Spartan-2 candidates. Memories can't be passed on just by recreating a brain, but working alongside Halsey there could have been something there. Great video, this was fun to watch. Kudos.

The thing is with Cortana is that she process's time to very very precise, I remember in one of the books that AI can feel like a normal conversation with a human lasts days when for a human in can't last a few minutes because of how quick. Also Cortana knows EVERYTHING about John, his past, his combat record, his "luck" and when ever she's in his head she knows what he's thinking, just imagine that. Then there's saving the galaxy a few times together, kinda hard to beat a bond like that. On Chief's side, he's extremely loyal and always puts his comrades and friends first, to a fault and Cortana isn't any different. So sure, they spent a few months together (Years in Cortana's eyes) but they're bond has been and will continue to be tested.
Even though their time together was short. A LOT happened within it. They went through hell and back countless times. It may seem implausible that strong feelings could develop in such a short timeframe but they did. That's why Chief was so devastated after Cortana's death. He lost his girl. He loved her more then anything or anyone else.
It wasn't the duration, but the connection. They were made for each other, her being as much a part of his development as the Librarian's eventual Geas. She complimented where he lacked in personality and capability, and he gave her a body, senses, purpose and comradery. They grew together under fire like lovers under moonlight, bonded more strongly than if they were friends or family, and that bond is why she saved him from the Didact, from the bomb, and by showing how a machine could become human...from himself.

You forget, that cortana is a hyper-active AI that can neuro-link into masterchief’s brain, who is also an enhanced mentally and physically. 43 days of an AI that advanced linking with you personally, trading information at a speed we can’t comprehend, I would say suffices. She even knew and felt his memories of him being taken.

In my head cannon they trained together for atleast a month or a little less and could have had a couple day to talk on the ship before getting frozen.
They were LITERALLY made for eachother. The AIs bound to Spartan IIs were all designed to compliment the Spartan's heavily molded and shaped personalities. Plus the time that they were together was spent in high stress life or death situations and environments requiring them to Depend on eachother CONSTANTLY. A bond that close is simply unattainable through natural biological means.
I known their relationship was really short ever since I read Fall of Reach. It was kinda unexpected at first but I came down realizing that I was never in such a releationship obliged me to have the said person 247 with me, hearing my thoughts, watching my dreams, talking to me. how they connect with eachother is well described in the book and it makes it feazable that they would bond so well and care for eachother so much, even more that, to Cortana, the relationship is deeper than it is to Chief
While it’s true that they didn’t know each other as long as we might expect, John knew Doctor Halsey for a very long time. Years, in fact. Cortana resembled her to such a high degree that it makes sense that he would feel as though he’d been with her a long time as well. Likewise, Cortana had years knowing John and seemingly infinite time alone to learn all about him and remember him. Their close bond doesn’t surprise me all too much.
At 4:18 She is saying she expected him to be stupid, but that he had more brain activity than she expected, meaning he’s smarter than she thought he would be.
In halo reach there is a cutsence that allows you to turn right and you can see master chief in a cryo sleep So he was basically already asleep when the pillar of autumn wasn't even launched yet

I always thought that since John was “raised” by Halsey he may feel the same way Jorge does “I’ve been all hers half my life.” And clearly Halsey sees the Spartan 2’s as her “children” especially John, that Cortana got her feelings about John from Halsey. And John had similar feelings towards Cortana that he did with Halsey, hell Cortana has the Same Voice as Halsey.

The thing was before Halo reach the game was made. I believe the first 3 books were cannon. However over time when Halo Reach was released it diverted from the plot of the books but when 4 an 5 came out the new books would tie in lore from there. So when Halo 1 came out an the books came out. It really gave incite to the backstory of some characters. Which really isnt too shocking. Plus Cortanna picked chief from watching him in Combat anyway. Also think about the Arbitor. He called Chief friend even though they didn’t know each other much. However when in combat an battle. A bond really can forge on the battlefield watching each others backs. Im sure people in marines,ect.. would agree. The other thing is the time between missions. Unless im forgetting if dates between missions would be there then this is irrelevant but they probably chatted a lot. Stuff we assume probably happened. Anyway this doesnt change my thought about Halo. However after reading “fall of reach” an listening to quotes in Halo 3 then realizing that they were qoutes from the books really blew my mine more then this just saying.
Lets be honest 43 days of actually talking and being with someone is alot.. My girlfriend who ive been dating for over two years. I see her 2.5 hours 5 days a week at school during lunch and 2 classes and we only see each other for an extra 3 hours after school 2 days a week. Thats 1017 hours a year. In days thats about 42 days. So threw the last two years we have been dating we have only spent a total of 84 days of actually seeing and being able to speak with each other. And considering chief would probly spend at least 4 hours a day sleeping id say hes been seeing her and speaking with her around the same amount using the same math as i have for around a year. So id say those numbers seem about right and shouldnt change your view on there relationship that much so dont be worried, and thats not even counting the fact i dont even work full time. That should change youe view on relationships as a whole if you think abiut it like this. If you worked 8 hours a day and so did your girlfriend i bet you would see each other even less then i see my girlfriend. So chief is seeing cortana in 43 days almost half the same amount ive seen my girlfriend in 2 years. Sorry if i messed my math up, i edited this like 15 times cuz i kept realizing i forgot something :(

Exactly, she has been with him through this war with Chief while also sacrificing herself for him and mankind in attempt to hold back the flood. Chief and many others saw Cortana as something more than just a smart AI they saw her as an actual being, we even see her act more human as each game goes on as she shares emotions with those around her especially with Chief and proving that she broke the barrier of just being another computer.
I think Halo 3 is where she expressed the most feelings (at least for me because I haven't played anything after 3 because I'm waiting for the Master Chief Collection to be updated on PC) since we see her showing signs of pain and when Chief finally finds her she showed signs of happiness and relief while also showing disgust when she told Chief "can we go now? I don't want to be here anymore." Which, if you ask me, shows that she is special especially since Johnson told Chief to never let her go as his last breath.
Spending that much time with something this advance to where it's like you are sharing an experience with another person is definitely a way to build a strong bond, especially if both of your lives have been at stake multiple times while saving each other.

Well she was created in 2549 and until 2552 she was mostly just working with Halsey, looking for a suitable candidate to work with, and waiting for the Mjolnir mk V to be finished.

Ajxx 99 no... not even a little bit. She was made from a clone of Dr. Halsey’s brain. It’s why when Cortana starts having issues she starts saying things only Halsey ever did (“You like games? So do I.”, The whole naval code thing, etc.) and her first words were something someone once told Halsey. In Halo Reach she was just trying to figure out the Forerunner stuff.

5.) Gives us more characterization for Blue Team, of whom survived Reach with Halsey.
6.) Pretty much sets up Phase 1 of why Halsey ultimately became a slave to ONI, events to be followed in Ghosts of Onyx and then later Glasslands.
7.) Shows ingenious space miliatary strategy, especially involving geosynchronous orbits and the like.
8.) Oly, Oly, Oxen free.

Seeing this kinda reminded me of the saying "The candle that burns twice as bright, burns half as long". There is more to it than that. Cortana's ability to calculate and process at a rate we can't even comprehend probably helped her get to know him and his abilities better. He became so reliant on her that losing her was like losing a piece of himself. Beyond that, he was traumatized by the loss of his fellow Spartans and was desperate to not lose her, too.
She was his only connection to the people he grew up with. They spent so much time together that it's natural they formed a bond. Spartan IIs were taken as kids and raised together with nobody else until they were young adults. They didn't have true social skills outside of other warriors. In a way, both Chief and Cortana needed each other to function and survive.
Beyond even that, Chief was Halsey's favorite. I can't remember for sure, but I believe he was the only candidate for the program that she truly invested in and was personal with. She went out and met him personally at the beginning of Eric Nylund's "Halo: The Fall of Reach" and feels some regret for doing so, as she wasn't supposed to get that involved.
Cortana IS Halsey and vice versa. The connection between Chief and Cortana is something that had been in the making for decades. Halsey wasn't surprised that Cortana felt so strongly for Chief pretty much immediately and that she picked him. It's right there in her coding.
Halo 6 Theory-
In the Halo 6 Trailer the pilot said “ We lost everything.” So what I think is that the Infinity was destroyed and the Master Cheif got out before it was destroyed . The pilot could be one of the Pilots who escaped the Infinity.The Pilot has been trapped in space for god who knows how long.

You get to know people while going through things. And she was in his head, that's probably the closest any two people could be, and even though chief was in cryo for 4 years without her, she was active those 4 years, and probably had time to understand him more.
I think that since Cortana is basically a clone of Dr. Halsey, her relationship with Chief is already a step forward because of Halsey relationship with Chief. I mean, obviously Cortana and Halsey aren't the same person but Chief feeling toward Halsey and Vice versa made Cortana and Chief relationship grow much faster.
Cortana was created by Dr Halsey, if you stop and think about it Cortana has memories of Catherine.
Her relationship has lots back history and inbuilt knowledge and affectionate mother type protection traits.

To be fair neither slept or separated throughout the entirety of the times they were together rather than normal friendships which develop over short meetings scattered over a long period of time. Scientifically it takes 200 hours of interaction on average for people to become best friends, the 47 day minimum is 1128 hours give or take a few, which is a massive amount of time to spend with someone consecutively. This is all strengthened by the fact that she was literally in his head, along with the experiences they went through as things like shared combat and life or death situations are also shown to increase chemistry between people.

It's a matter of percentages though. The A.I. live such short lives. And she watched him develop from the sidelines in addition to her other duties. It may only be a couple of months for Chief due to cryo, but it was literally all of Cortana's life that she knew and watched over the Spartans. Plus, being based on Halsey's brain, one could postulate that maybe Cortana was wired to care greatly for the Spartan-2 candidates. Memories can't be passed on just by recreating a brain, but working alongside Halsey there could have been something there.

The thing is with Cortana is that she process's time to very very precise, I remember in one of the books that AI can feel like a normal conversation with a human lasts days when for a human in can't last a few minutes because of how quick. Also Cortana knows EVERYTHING about John, his past, his combat record, his "luck" and when ever she's in his head she knows what he's thinking, just imagine that. Then there's saving the galaxy a few times together, kinda hard to beat a bond like that.
On Chief's side, he's extremely loyal and always puts his comrades and friends first, to a fault and Cortana isn't any different.
So sure, they spent a few months together (Years in Cortana's eyes) but they're bond has been and will continue to be tested.
Even though their time together was short. A LOT happened within it. They went through hell and back countless times. It may seem implausible that strong feelings could develop in such a short timeframe but they did. That's why Chief was so devastated after Cortana's death. He lost his girl. He loved her more then anything or anyone else.

It wasn't the duration, but the connection. They were made for each other, her being as much a part of his development as the Librarian's eventual Geas. She complimented where he lacked in personality and capability, and he gave her a body, senses, purpose and comradery. They grew together under fire like lovers under moonlight, bonded more strongly than if they were friends or family, and that bond is why she saved him from the Didact, from the bomb, and by showing how a machine could become human...from himself.

Likewise, Cortana had years knowing John and seemingly infinite time alone to learn all about him and remember him. Their close bond doesn’t surprise me all too much.
