GREAT JOB Susanna has the right voice for this song I remember this song from Lulu. Saw her sing it on the Tom Jones show many years ago. I guess I just really showed my age didn't I.
Summer 1997 I'm at the DoubleDoor in Chicago for Susanna's show. The band finishes. I walk up and tap her on the shoulder from behind. I say "Susanna, can you play To Sir With Love?" She turns and looks at me and says, "Yeah!" I go back and sit on top of the bar and grab my beer. She sings the song looking right into my eyes from start to finish. Couldn't have dreamed it any better. Three of the best minutes I've ever lived. Love that girl.
I know Lulu owens this song, but Susanna Hoffs gives it a refreshing air with the same quallity voice...plus Susanna is really really ...but reallly hot.
It's incredible, and I may be biased, but every time Susanna Hoffs does a cover of a song, I generally like her version better than the original. This is no exception, along with "All I Want", "Different Drummer", "When You're a Boy", "Unconditional Love", "When You Walk in the Room", and especially "The Look of Love" from the Austin Powers movie.
Appleholic1 pbl1 I tend to agree but in fairness think the mix and overly produced instruments drown her out. Susanna has a distinctive voice that goes with her petite form and it's appealing. I'm not sure it works in every situation or perhaps because I compare it to Lulu's who does own this one. Lulu is petite too, even developing a similar raspy quality in later years but her voice is fuller not to mention having a better production on this. Susanna sounds great on the raw live versions of this one. As an aside, I'll bet Linda Ronstadt could've done a fantastic cover.
Perhaps if Susanna recorded it first I might feel differently. Like I said this version is very good but the world fell in love with "To Sir With Love" by Lulu first
This cover suits Susanna's vocal abilities quite well, but to me, it sounds as if she has held back alot and been extremely cautious both with her voice and in the way this piece has been "patched together". No guts, no glory and LuLu soars far above her in terms of ability, technique and delivery.
I like the music & vocals, but not particularly the "full stops" between verses & chorus. Very distracting and breaks the flow of the song, in my opinion. Not that anyone asked. :) However, it is on the iTunes Music Store (at least the US Store) on her self-titled album.
My two cents: Song was slightly over-produced, disjointed, and fought the vocal instead of enhancing it. Susan should have used a softer, younger-sounding voice due to the subject matter.
Love it! Lulu would be very proud of Susannah. She killed it!
I normally like the original version more than a remake, but Susanna does such a good job that I may like her's more.

Sussanna gives it a fresh upgrade...love her voive.

Love the little rasppiness in her voice. Susan does justice to this nice song!

I know Lulu owens this song, but Susanna Hoffs gives it a refreshing air with the same quallity voice...plus Susanna is really really ...but reallly hot.

I've loved this song since Lulu did it
My wife looks like Susanna Hoffs, a few years younger, a few inches taller but the resemblance is pretty amazing.
Lucky you.

I think the rasp in her voice is a nice touch, It`s a Heartach would be a good cover tune for Susanna.
Very respectable version of Lulu’s song. But who can do better than Lulu…?
Still, I like this version very much…
I just discovered Susanna Hoffs. I will check out more of her music. Does she still preform?
I Know they do, but its not same like 80's music they used to play.
personally like it and the acoustic sound better then orig.
TRUE!! LULU OWNS THIS, WAS FIRST AND BEST BUT SUSANNA IS A VERY CLOSE. SECOND!!!!
It is very good but Lulu owns this song

Yep. Good cover but not in the same league as the iconic version by Lulu.
Perhaps if Susanna recorded it first I might feel differently. Like I said this version is very good but the world fell in love with "To Sir With Love" by Lulu first
Damn you're right man...love you answer
Correct

Very nice but Lulu's rendition is a little better.
@noahstfuboi - couldn't agree more. she can carry a tune, but has piss poor vocal chops otherwise. and, yes, she is hot
Who’s Sir gangster girl? - A Song writing jungle. 📝 Jimmy.
Sounds like they used an actual (or synthesized) melotron on this.
one of the top Remakes ever, Lulu stands no chance vs Susanna's voice
I love, Susanna and her voice, but "Lulu stands no chance"? Really? Lulu has a much more powerful voice, to put it mildly.
Horrible engineering. Reeks of that Phil Spectre "wall of sound" BS.
My two cents: Song was slightly over-produced, disjointed, and fought the vocal instead of enhancing it. Susan should have used a softer, younger-sounding voice due to the subject matter.
Eh, ok, not a great cover, rather listen to Lulu.
The Jesus archetype/motif of self sacrifice
Oo, too sugary, syrupy, honey bumble bee-ish.
There's nothing to it. She's an empty shell and she doesn't care or understand a word of what she's sining. And it hurts my ears and my heart.
