- The young and prodigiously talented veena player Ramana Balachandhran was a featured artiste at the Cusp festival held in Chennai earlier this year. The second piece of his recital was a Muthuswami Dikshitar kriti entitled Chintaya Makanda in Ragam Bhairavi.
Ramana was accompanied by Praveen Sparsh on mridangam. Praveen was also one of the co-curators of the festival along with Priya Purushothaman, Ranjani Ramachandran, Abhishek Borkar, Brindha Manickavasakan and Devina Dutt of First Edition Arts.

More than anything, what is quite striking is his style...he's in conversation with music, all alone, not aware of the surroundings...talking to his music...and it replies back with such beautiful tones...my god! pleasure...

very fine....like this more than any of the other Veena players under age 60 that i have heard in the past 20 years...it also helps that for a change the recording engineering is at a professional standard, which is all too often not the case in carnatic music....
Appealing to the Divine that shines as a speck in the individual soul. Feeling like in a palace court of great musicians. After all Veena is made as the unique instrument to enable such experience.

Musical talent is sign and symptom of embodying Ishvara's Grace. Yet it would be facilitating for calming the nerves even if one does passive listening to such absorbing music.

And this beauty is, in a sense, superior to that of Sindhu bhairavi, which is more frequently sung and played in both the Carnatic and Hindustani styles of Indian classical music.
After all Sindhu-bhairavi is called simply as Bhairavi in the H system !And this is so because the SB scale is obtained by griha bheda of Bhairavi (taking the latter's panchama as shadja.)

Bro, what we call as Ragam "SIndhu Bharavi" in Carnatic Music, is Raag Bhairvi in Hindustani. HM has no equivalent of ragam Bhairavi. Just as a Raag Shankara or Raag Shyam Kalyan has no equivalent in CM
