Did you happen to know anyone who lived on Princes Walk, next to Normanston Park? My family moved there in 1985 and I would love to know what it was like before then.

@@johnwortley3918 Hi, no didn't know anyone in princes walk but can remember area very well, spent many hours playing tennis on the wonderful grass courts in normanston park where the spine road now is, every year the suffolk tennis championships were held there, of course there was no skatepark but near where that is were a massive set of oak gates the main entrance to the park, the park land was gifted to the people of Lowestoft and should never of been built on.

@@pamelakeating4293 That's very interesting about the park gates. I think they were already long gone when my family moved there in 1985, but I keep seeing references to them in the research I am doing. Was the original main entrance from Princes Walk then? I think the house I grew up in was the first house on the street, and was built the same year as the park.

The park gates came off Normanston Drive if you remember there was no roundabout then it was just a junction of Fir Lane the gates probably came down in mid to late 1970s the council saying they would be refurbished and put back they never returned.

@@Fireblade918 Unfortunately I don't really remember the roundabout not being there. I really struggle to place some of the shots in the video of the park as it has changed so much, despite going there for nearly 40 years. I think some of the houses at the top of the park now must have been built after this video was made. A real shame about the gates, it would be great to see what they looked like.

I was born in this year and my father used to be a rigger for Small & co . Fixing ropes etc on the trawlers. I can remember him taking me down to the docks and we could almost walk across from one side of the dock to the other just by movin from trawler to trawler . I moved away 30yrs ago and had my own family and it saddens me to see ,every time I would bring my children up to visit there would be a bit less of the things in the town to show my children. So thank you for posting this film as it shows things that I remembered as I child and could finally show my children and now grandchildren MY hometown from my times x

My mum worked for Small and Co as the receptionist. Fantastic footage of Waveney Chambers and Oulton Broad where I grew up. Thank you for the video. Fabulous memories,

This brought back a lot of memories - trawlers in the harbour (no longer seen), Everitt's Park, Normanston Park & maybe a brief glance of the ECW where my father worked. Many thanks.

Did you or your family know anyone who lived on Princes Walk next to Normanston Park? I grew up there from 1985 and would love to know what it was like before then. I think a Canadian family called the Browns lived on the road in the 1970s.

This was the year I was born and it was still like this in the early 70s to. Being from Oulton Broad I spent a lot of my childhood around boats. Thankyou for uploading the film as it brought back good memories as I now live in the south west and I miss all this.

That was excellent, so good to see old Eastern Coachworks and the Fishmarket. Saw one of Small and Co trawlers. Dear Oulton Broad, really quaint and the old bus, wow. Wish I could go back to then, don't like the world as it is today. I must be getting old! thanks for uploading.

I lived in Yeovil road, used to watch the bus chassis drive past on the way to the coach works. Driver in a big leather coat and gloves with goggles,,with jut a big plastic windscreen.

I was about 9-10 when the old fish market was pulled down, My dad worked for the company that pulled it down, he took me down one weekend, with a claw hammer I pulled out hundreds of old copper nails, took them to the scrappy, earned a lot of money, All my mums family worked on the trawlers or the fish market, Lowestoft between 1960-70 was a fantastic place to live,

Grew up on Princes Walk from 1985. Would love to see any old footage/photos before then. I think a Canadian family called the Browns lived on the road in the 70's if anyone knew them?

That harbour was my playground back in the 1950's.

This is brilliant, thank you. At 04.46 on the film does anyone know what road this is as I can’t place it? Maybe St Peters Street?

I think this is bridge road, looking up towards OBN train station, the Wherry being on your left, just out of shot. The extreme left of this shot would now be "the Wolf Inn" and "Bloww" Barbers. This would tie in with the previous shot being in NEP as well.
