REPLACE YOUR EXTRACTOR SPRING, EXTRACTOR, AND YOUR EJECTOR AND YOU WILL BE FINE. I had the same issue with my MKE AP5 but mine was literally every 3-4 rounds. I did some reading and i rapled the aforementioned with HK PARTS and it's been money since. it will take you 5 min when you receive all the parts and BAM
Zenith has replacement parts heading my way I’ll try first but others have suggested to buy hk springs and ejector as well. Hope to get it back up and running this weekend! I’ll get those hk parts ordered as well just in case! Thank you for the feedback on yours!
I had a similar issue with my Zenith. Failure to extract, double feeds, and then I had a round feed half way into the chamber and then detonate. It shot powder all over my arm and caused a light end cap strike on my suppressor (no damage as it was just cosmetic). I sent it into Zenith for warranty work. They polished some sharp edges, adjusted the magwell, new extractor and spring, magwell paddle adjusted, smoothed carrier edges and bolt face, and then switched out the old magazine followers to their new ones. I just got it back after 2.5 months. I have not been able to shoot and test it yet.
@@bud9422 mines had that exact list done to it supposedly twice! Being the sight entire front sight block still wiggled side to side it was safe to say they didn’t do crap the first trip. I’m guessing the tech though the entire front sight block meant the sight blade and he just sat on the gun for two months and did nothing. I say that because they said they tightened it. A part that is pressed on😖 second trip they did all the polishing and adjusting crap and still didn’t work. They even swapped the entire bolt and still not right. But new extractor , spring and mags with new followers and so far it’s been running. Hopefully yours is good to know. Please keep us all posted. A lot of people are following the comments trying to work thru their issues
600 rounds through my AP5 and 1 light primer strike on round 501. No feed or extraction issues. Did replace the trigger group with one from HK parts for 922r compliance. Never fired with the factory trigger. Hope yours gets squared cause they’re fun to shoot.
I’ve post up 3 more videos dealing with it😳 lol I think I have it to the point it’s reliable finally! I got to get some more ammo to dedicate just to that gun and burn through it to feel 100% about it. I’ll probably pick up an ap5k or the ptr9k when I see them on sale again to try out
Thanks for the update and slick video!
Wish it was a better update. But I have talked with zenith and hope to get some parts sent out and get it running! Stay tuned for more updates!!
Ive got the zenith mp5k, when i first got it i was lucky to get 2 to 5 rounds to cycle at a time. Zenith says to use 124 grain full power or plus p ammo to break it in. I ran a hodge podge of shit through mine of steel case 115s, brass 124s 147s, 158s, mostly all suppressed. Mine took atleast 500 rounds to start to become reliable, i never sent mine off, i just powered through the malfunctions for a weekend and about 600 rounds. Mine doesnt like flatt point 147s at all, in fact they hard jam so bad ive had to use a rod to punch cases from the chamber.
Yeah I can’t cycle any flat nose. The federal 150 synthetic get smashed straight to the powder. The round count has been climbing on this one. Now that I’ve got mags that work with it it has ran really good! A lot of issues to correct in one gun with this one but hopefully I’m past those and smooth sailing from here!
@@SuppressedNation yup exact same scenario with the Winchester 147s for me. I only shoot sphere shape bullets in mine no flat points at all, good to hear you're finally gettin there. I need to get mine back out and dump some mags. I have about 10 or 12 of the kci mags, seem to work and I got a magpul d50 for the hell of it lol.
for the price we should expect it to run flawless..
Right!?! The thing that kind of bugs me is even this week they posted a video of how reliable the gun is! I posted on X to them I can’t use the R word around my zf5 lol
I had these same issues when firing suppressed. Had an RCM 80 degree locking piece laying around and decided to try it. Completely resolved my FTE issues.
You have the full-size or k? I know it’s done with the k but never seen anyone do it for this size. Zenith seems to think it’s week springs or bad ejector
@@SuppressedNation Full size. It also cleaned up my ejection pattern, and made it a lot more consistent. With the original lock piece, some brass would get thrown 10-15 feet away, and some would dribble out and drop at my feet. With the 80, all 30 land about 6 feet away, in about a 12 inch circle.
@@MagDumpBob heck yeah thank you for that info. That’s exactly what mine is doing! I’ll install the parts coming and if that doesn’t work I’ll give the 80 a shot!👊🏻👊🏻
@@SuppressedNation No problem. That 80 also made it noticeably softer recoiling and quieter while using 158gr Fiocchi/PPU. Fixed the FTE problem, cleaned up the ejection pattern, softened recoil, and quieted the action down. All around better shooting gun with the 80.
@@MagDumpBob those Fiocchi 158s and Callaway Ballistic 147s are my favorite to shoot too!
Pro tip, don’t take it to your local “gunsmith.” They almost always never know what they are doing. You’ll get better direction from reddit 😂
Right! I have never had to take a gun to a gun smith yet. So far I’ve been able to handle everything in house. Like you said Reddit or UA-cam has helped me solve everything!
I'm having the same problems with my US made Zenith ZF5-P and 115, 124, & 147 standard velocity 9mm ammo (CCI etc). If you read the manual it states you must do a 500rd break in with 124 Nato Spec 9mm. I'm getting near 1000rds with standard velocity 9mm and mine is a jam-o-matic. Winchester offers 2 choices of Nato Spec 124gr 9mm with 1200fps MV. Federal offers one Nato Spec 124gr with a 1260fps MV. I have some Winchester on order.
Is it failing to feed or eject? I would message them for new mags. No other companies mags feed right except their new ones. To me that says something is out of spec.
@@SuppressedNation I'm getting every possible failure, FTF, FTE, Double Feed, empty needing to be pried out with a screw driver, etc.
Ok that’s what mine was doing! The failure to extract caused me he issues. It was either 1 not pulling the casing out the chamber and then it tried to load one from the mag or two would partial extract and block the one from the mag from loading. So that was the first issue to fix. That required a new extractor and spring which Zenith sent out. Mine now launches the brass. Then that revealed the mag issues. The followers sit low and don’t allow the bullets to correctly feed into the chamber. Now they blamed kci who makes the mags but tons of people run kci, mke , hk and other but mine would not bees with any of them. But the do with the new mags with new followers that allow the bullet to sit higher
@@SuppressedNation I've been using 7 MKE mags but will go back to the KCI/Zenith mags. Seemed like the KCI/Zenith mags caused a last 2 round FTE. Maybe that's better than the MKE mid mag failures.
I'm going to try the Nato Spec ammo with the KCI/Zen mags. I'll make a video with the results. I'm not hopeful.
You need to message zenith and get them to swap them out to the new KCI/Zenith mags. Those will have the new followers. I wasted so much ammo but the extractor/spring and new gen mags seem to have it running good so far
Don't wanna be in battle with that thing. 😂 Just when I thought about purchasing one 😢😢😢
Seems like I'm finding more videos and having people reach out daily with them dealing with the same issues. Seems the extractor and mags have been the major issues. Hoping to run mine this week and it's gtg. PTR has/had a sale on theirs code 1150 to get them for $1150, I've never shot theirs but do have a ptr91 here that's pretty nice.
Mine only functions with the new zenith mags with the raised followers. So far nothing else works.
I am having similar issues! Im sick of the malfuntions
Is yours a Zenith? What all is yours doing? They sent out an extractor and extractor spring and now she ripping and launching brass. Spoiler alert, Still having some ftf with some ammo. I recorded a video today and after shooting all day for two video found out that I had feedback issues that ruined my audio!😡 But I will redo it soon.
@@SuppressedNation i have a zenith zf5. My issue is failure to feed. They sent me new extractor springs and a polymer mag to try out. I tried the magazine today and had no issues. I still think somethings wrong with the gun
@@Hotel_soap yeah mines doing the same thing.I do not want to run plastic mags to be reliable. Some of the ammo I had today ran perfect. So I will probably continue to use that. I like subs and the Callaway ballistic 147s have ran great in it so I'll stack p on that for sure. Put around 180-200 rounds thru it yesterday. Hoping as parts wear it will get better. Keep me posted on yours!
Hate to see that bud... I know that's frustrating as hell, as I've dealt with stuff like this with other guns. This same issue happens to EVERY Zenith/MKE that I've seen, 3 of which belong to guys who shoot at the machine gun range with me.
This is why I went ahead and dropped the extra coin on the H&K SP5...The piece of mind, and flawless function, has been worth the extra expense. Mine has been flawless with the factory locking piece and 147's with my Rugged Obsidian 45 (K-config). I mostly run Federal HST 147's, and it sounds awesome and is a tack-driver with them...I have no problems shooting 3" gongs with a red dot @ 100 yards, and an 8" gong @ 200 yards once I establish my holdover.
Also, I put one of those new Holosun SCRS-MRS optics on it, and I love that sight! Highly recommend it. Not sure if they still are, but Amazon was running them on sale for only $269 a while back (red), when I got mine. I put it on an ADM 509T low QD mount, and it works amazing.
I’d like to get one version of each. I wanted the hk but had just bought the scorpion and ghm9. So didn’t want to end up missing in the news paper lol I’ll still probably grab one of the MAC version but a true hk is on the list. All these guns have to run subs especially if they have a 3 lug. I just wish this gun ate everything like my scorpion! It’s a beast
Try HK mags. I loaded up on MKE mags when I started buying those hosts. I get lucky when I get a whole mag to empty. Been using HK’s for my videos now and wish I’d bought 4 HK mags instead of 8 MKEs or however many. Edit… I just heard you tried some and they wobble. That sucks because it should be built to spec.
It's feeding, it just not extracting and ejecting correctly. They have parts in the mail already. Hope to have it back on the range this weekend.
@@SuppressedNation I got bent extractor springs running 165 grain ammo that caused malfunctions. Switched to the rifle/spring steel ones and it took care of it.
@@RangeToyz shoot me a link to them over on IG if you don't mind which ones you got! They have new parts coming but if that doesn't work ill try yours!
Damn! I just decided yesterday how much i like these, wanted one and then i found this video 😫
They may have their crap together by now. If I ever buy from them again it will be years down the road and much cheaper! PTR just had theirs on sale for 1150! Seeing HK’s pop up for 2500ish. I wish I had saved for the HK
Man that sucks to see that happen. Hope you figure out what's causing the issues. Is the trigger a factory trigger?
I ask because it sounds like it wants to go full auto, that, or you have a fast trigger finger.
Yes it's a factory trigger. I want a Timney but keeping everything stock on it till we figure out what the issue is. Plus the Timney is two stage. hoping for a single!
Mine ran about 250 rounds after having half the gun replaced just to be in that same place again. Seems like they could have got things sorted out before putting these in peoples hands. Im on my last try with my zf-5p. If it happens again it'll be sold, and the last zenith I own
You have the same issues as mine or more?
I had the same issues and more to begin with. Now its back to the same issues you're having. Ive got an 80% gas key i might try as well@@SuppressedNation
This is the first repair list Replaced bolt head and locking piece
Adjusted Magazine well
Smoothed the edges of the bolt carrier
Adjusted the case deflector
Adjusted provided Zenith magazines
Adjusted cocking bearer
Adjusted ejector lever
This is the repair list from the second trip all which was said to have been done the first.
We redid the triple frame, refinished the firearm, replaced the bolt, adjusted the mag well, polished the chamber face
@chrisbundy3009 this is from the first repair trip
Hello,
Your warranty is complete! We Cleaned the gun, tightened the triple frame, replaced the mag catch, beveled the bolt face, and adjusted the magwell.
Have you checked / replaced your extractor spring? They are really cheap (sub $10), even on the original HK. They are famous for causing malfunctions with even the smallest issues, and can wear out after only 500 rounds (anecdotally).
I have not replaced anything yet. I just had a chance to really test the gun Saturday and then reached out to zenith. I should have replacement parts coming this week.
Let me introduce you to our Lord and Savior the MPX
It's close to the top of my "want list" , I had just bought 3 guns when I seen them on sale last year for 1599ish!! Oh I wanted to cry!! lol
Mine had the occasional same issues but not to the extent of yours. What mine does have though, is a trigger that refuses to reset after each shot. It’s almost as if I have to wrap my finger around it, pull and then nudge it out for it to reset. I’m hoping this might be a break in issue but we’ll see.
Have you contacted them about it? Caleb has been fairly quick with responding. They were just slow getting it back to me. He may be able to send out new parts for the trigger if you are comfortable at working on it.
@@SuppressedNation This actually happened maybe 30 minutes before typing this so I’m going to see if the problem persists this weekend and if it does I’ll reach out. They were super helpful when I spoke with them prior to ordering. Kevin was solid
@@johnbob95 sounds good, keep me posted. Are you shooting suppressed? I know they can get filthy. I sprayed mine , cleaned it and added some lube to all the contact points. So far I have not had an issue with that …yet😳
@@SuppressedNation Not suppressed just yet. I plan on getting a dedicated suppressor I just haven’t decided which
I'm looking at adding a few more 9mm myself. One is definitely going to be the silencerco spectre9 but not sure about the second just yet.
Look at your ejection pattern on the ammo that had malfunctions compared to ammo that ran properly. Have you checked bolt gap? Also, what number locking piece are you running?
Being a full-size Navy barrel he is fine with running the factory locking piece. Only the K models really needs that swapped out when running suppressed.
I have not personally checked the bolt gap. It's running whatever locking piece the zf5 runs from the factory. I'm about to go down and pull the bolt out now and get pix for Zenith. They are very quick to respond via email. Just wish the problems would have been fixed the last two times it was sent in. Hopefully they can send me a some new parts and I can get it running properly.
yeah I've read K versions running a can need swapped but never a full-size
It’s got a 100° locking piece in it. Had to break out a magnifying glass to find it lol
@@TroyPosey yes correct the full size locking is what should be in there, but mp5 makers in the past have been known to accidentally put the wrong one in, thus he should check what number is in there.
About par for the course from zenith
Have you seen more people with this issue??
@@SuppressedNation I retract my statement, I got zenith and ptr confussed. Ptr is what I see having a lot of these issues.
I’ve seen a few of everything even hk screwed up here lately. Not sure what’s going on with everyone’s qc
@@SuppressedNation i bought a ZF5 back in january and it has issues failing to feed on the last round. those mags they sent with the gun suck. I wish they would just fix the problem.
@@Hotel_soap So just the last round is the issue? id be stoked if that was all mine did !!lol
looks like ammo problem bud not the gun
Nope it’s the gun. Watch the rest of the videos. Gun has been back twice. And had new parts sent twice. It literally failed with every single ammo ran thru it. After a lot of time and parts swapped it’s finally running. Was 100% the gun and poor design
This just hurts…
Tell me about it! lol
sheesh, wtf Zenith
Hopefully it will get up and running correctly this go around🤷🏻♂️
Dudes dragging a gun and then says “so I put a crimson trace on it”
K.
By dragging the gun I’m guessing this refers to me giving a honest review of how unreliable and all the issues it has🤷🏻♂️. yes it got a crimson slapped on it because it’s been about as reliable as the gun! 1st one was returned and this is the second dot with the same issues. But hopefully just like the gun I have worked on the dot and hoping it will stay up and running. Only more time and rounds down range will give me that answer.
