The designers for the Star Trek tng pants added stirrups inside to hold the leg straight. Actors said it was uncomfortable but it looked very clean

This is a wonderful video on jeans! I have a request: would you please do a video on fitting jeans for an apple shape? I have slim hips and long slim legs and a flat seat, but I have a very large belly. It's hard to find off the rack clothes and difficult to sew jeans. I have 40" hips and 37' waist. I can sometimes get away with a very stretchy fabric and sew a size to fit my hips and let the fabric stretch to fit my waist, but it's often hit or miss and doesn't always work out. Can you help me out? I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.
It's difficult for me to create the fitting scenarios when my shape is different, but I will add this to my list. I don't usually take vide requests because I am a one woman team and it can get overwhelming.
Maybe the jeans course Love Notions offers would speak to this.
@Alexandra Emrick try checking out Cashmerette patterns. Their jeans pattern has options for apple and pear shapes. The owner, Jenny, also has good fitting tips in her book Ahead of the Curve.

I am looking forward to making my first pair of jeans and I'm sure your video is going to help, thank you. I am nervous, but mainly about not achieving a great fit and wasting my fabric, rather than the sewing. However, having a go is the only what to learn and expand my skills, so here goes!
I suggest you make a pair of shorts as a test garment first and take it from there :)

My measurements put me in a place to choose and I used the straight first and then decided the curvy was best for me :)

How would you adjust the pattern piece, if you need to add 5 or 6 cm to the front rise? Would you adjust exactly as you adjusted here or would you do a full belly adjustment? What happens to the zipper in that case? Should it be placed higher or should it only be longer?

Hi Karina, thank you so much for this video. Does the pattern include belt loops? Do you have a tutorial for adding belt loops please? I find them so fiddly to do as my machine doesn’t like to grab hold of the small bits of material. Any tips?
Of course it does :) I don’t add them. I don’t tuck in or need a belt so if I’m makings them custom to my needs….. I won’t sew them.
The slit at the front of the second pair of jeans looks really cool!
I think one could also achieve the same result, without having to add a seam to the front, by drafting a hem facing and cutting the slit as you would for a sleeve or notched neckline. What do you think?
Yep you can do that. I was trying to save the hole on my fabric so I added a whole seam. I actually wanted the top stitching too there.
This is so exciting to have your full tutorial for these jeans! I will be making a couple of pairs. When you added 1 and 3/4 inches to the lower legs, do you mean extra length to the pants or width to the lower leg?

Your jeans look great I have sewed jeans, I found putting the proper jeans button in hard, how did you find putting the button on?
Have a look at the previous video. I show how to put the button on there. I didn’t find it hard.
Super cute with the slit in front. Do you think this pattern would work with corduroy? I know the pattern suggested stretch denim.
If your corduroy has stretch I don’t see why not :)

Hi Karina. Beautiful makes! Here in South Africa, we're not usually give a percentage lycra/elastane in denim, so we have to go by percentage horizontal stretch. Can you maybe give some advice? Would denim with 20% horizontal stretch work for the Legato jeans?
(Btw my hubby says "Hi Karina!)
I think 20% is too much. I’d say 10-15% would be better because the negative ease is minimal.

For getting making a muslin would you suggest buying more fabric for the test with the same fabric I will use to make my jeans?
If that is economically feasible, yes…. But if not, something with similar stretch and feel will do.
Great info. Which jeans pattern would you recommend for my tall, curvy figure? I have a large hip to waist ratio and I like my jeans to have a higher rise.
This one will be perfect. My adjustments were so minimal compared to other jeans I've made before. The tall option makes a difference.
Does anyone have a source for really stretchy mid weight denim? A little polyester would be ok, but not too much😊 I like a lot of cotton content! Any help is appreciated! Thanks 😍
It’s would be easier to get suggestions if you mention what country you are in. I can’t really recommend because I’m in Brazil.

Do you happen to know how long the jeans sewing tutorial video is on Love Notions? I saw it was $25 but couldn’t see how long it it.
It's not just one video, so you can't see a total length. It's an on demand course with many short videos for each step in detail that go in progression.
