Purchase a Davis Artificial Horizon and for the reflecting liquid a very black coffee or used motor oil in a flask with funnel. I have used both and they work great.

That's a cute trick. I've been using a laser level to make a line on a wall at eye level, which is a $40 solution. You can buy proper bubble attachments for better sextants ($800 Astra & up). A 2' arc error bubble attachment is about $80. A better one is about $950. You can also buy an aircraft sextant, which has the bubble built in (expensive). Your budget solution knocked it out of the park for value, ingenuity & simplicity. Thanks for posting.

Thanks jim.....I also have a nice tyrmara(?), so not sure if those other options would work on that one

Really good idea. I'm thinking on using the level on my phone and (somehow with a mirror) show it in the line of sight.

Clever, but I think I'll spend the $35 bucks on Amazon.

I was going to purchase the Davis Artificial Horizon also, but it's just as easy to put some oil in a pan

@@jimmyboy163 as accurate as if you used water reflex as a virtual horizon?
