It's amazing to see how in control she is of her emotions. It's evident that she's holding back tears yet her voice didn't even break for a second. What a brilliant woman. Even the way she carried herself, she exuded class with a great sense of elegance. So simple yet exceptional, inside and out.

She got a bit misty eyed towards the end of her speech. She was sixty years old at the time and as beautiful as ever.

philipc67 they were probably more fabricated in the past, we know them as “Stars” more than who they really were

@@johndelossantos7678 FACT. PR back then was brutal, even if it meant you had to erase your full identity to be accepted as a "star"

Grand Illusion and The Rules of the Game are two of the ten or twenty greatest films of world cinema. Orson Welles said if he could save only one film, it would be Grand Illusion. Even though he was not present, his award was a highlight. How idiotic for the Academy to no longer televise the life achievement awards, as they "atone" for the Academy's annual idiotic decisions and reward true greats. The Oscars are not worth watching. Renoir films are.

    Fin dall’inizio Jean Renoir
    creò dei film dall’intensa individualità,
lavorando come sceneggiatore, disegnatore, produttore, regista.
    Grazie! Noi ti amiamo Jean!

If he only made "Grand Illusion" and "Le Regle du jeu," Renoir would be still considered one of the grand masters of cinema. These two films - two of the top 10 to 15 or so ever made - are like the great masterworks of literature such as those of Dostoyevsky, Faulkner, Joyce, Hemingway, etc. The films are cut from the same high literary cloth as those great novelists. Fortunately, Renoir blessed up with many other films that could be considered great in one way or another.

Jean Renoir was living in Beverly Hills, where his funeral at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church took place in 1979. I think Renoir was buried in France.
