@@ioanaminescu1230I can confirm in Spanish they managed to keep the alliteration alive. Actually most of the humor was kept, surprisingly. I am so sure I will never ever see a show like this one again. Long live Larry and Balki.
The perfect chemistry between them and very well-executed physical comedy they did together (which was made even more effective by the big differences in their heights and builds) was a huge part of what made this show work.
Out of all the classic ABC TGIF sitcoms, this one holds up the best in terms of writing and acting, IMO. Mark Lynn Baker and Bronson Pinchot's chemistry were unmatched as far as tv sitcoms of the time were concerned.
The casual way they trow in these complicated sentences as if it is a normal conversation is hilarious. These two were far more talented than people gave them credit for. Except for their fans ofcourse.
They are both just variations on a bit from "I Love Lucy." The episode when Lucy is making chocolate candy and can't keep up with the speed of the line. It's one of the funniest episodes of any sitcom you'll ever see. No wonder they keep redoing it on different shows.
Ahhh….these two…still make me laugh out loud in 2022. Why is this not streaming somewhere today? We need the laughs. Underrated physical comedic actors, both of them. ❤#PerfectStrangers
This was 9ne of my favorite episodes of the series. Loved this comedy team. I noticed only when rewatching the show as an adult how much of their personalities were what make up my character traits. Glad the entire series is on DVD now for future generations to watch and be entertained. Their heart moments were the greatest.
@@paulh9979The last time I saw reruns of this show was in the early 2000s. It's really an underrated show. Did this show even air reruns on ABC Family like Family Matters did? If not, it's too bad considering how good it was.
Wow. I can still remember this episode from the first time I watched it when I was in primary school. My friend and I were singing the song and pretending to be Larry and Balki lol. Such good memories!!!
I was walking through the woods the other day, and this song came to mind mind after having seen this about 40 years ago. At first I thought I'd heard it on Looney Tunes, then I realized it was the bibbi babka song.
Modern...ish? This episode aired 33 years ago, Lucy's episode aired 36 years before that, and even it bears certain similarities to a Chaplin film made 16 years before that, in 1936. So, we're probably about due for another version!
You know... it's easy to be cynical about a show like this, but this was actually really clever - and hard to perform. lol. I loved it as a kid, and revisiting it, I still got a good laugh... like, LOUD!!!
They had great sets too. There's the one where they're fixing Jennifer's plumbing and they end up with water spraying from everywhere. And another where they are camping and fall into quicksand. I've been watching this series again and think it's very well done in all aspects. They worked so well together. Silly but hilarious. Bravo Mark and Bronson.... you kept thousands of people entertained and laughing. 👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣
If Family Matters was a spin-off of Perfect Strangers and took place in the same continuity as both that and Step-By-Step, imagine a crossover episode with Balki, Urkel and Cody Lambert. Probably be the funniest ever.
Wow is amazing, they made laugh when I was a teenager, and after 30 years I found this and still in less than 1 minute they make you laugh so much. I miss those days so much. Why they don't have comedy like this now.
I’d always remembered it as “When you smile on what you bake, bibbi babka turned out great,” which would be a better lyric, because unlike “swell” it actually almost rhymes.
I remember watching this with my grandma when it aired. It was first time I laughed uncontrollably at a sit com. She had a different name for a show too. Instead of bullwinkle she called it moosewinkle.
This was a very funny family comedy series on network tv back in the 80's when I was growing up. I don't think you can find it anywhere today? The whole premise was very 80's cold war - - guy from Soviet dominated Eastern Europe comes to USA to live with his American cousin and hilarity ensues as they both try to get used to each other. Two very talented actors made this series work. If I remember correctly Perfect Strangers ran for several seasons on ABC and was considered a success yet it's rarely remembered now when compared to other 80's comedies like ALF or Family Matters.
Small correction: Balki's homeland, the island of Mypos, was meant to be a parody of a Greek Island, not Soviet-era Eastern Europe... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balki_Bartokomous
Didn’t the skip the song at one point which caused the babkas to explode? It’s been so long since I’ve seen this episode. It is still funnier than anything I’ve seen lately.
Not every show could make alliteration funny. These guys do it effortlessly.
I still wonder how this alliteration turns out in other languages. Cause you need to keep it to make it sound funny when translating 🤣🤣🤣
They're both clearly trying not to laugh after Balki says Booby lol

Definitely one of the better sitcoms written. Extremely funny actors.

“If you drop the damn ditty you’re doomed.” 🤣
My family loved this show and we still talk about this episode even now. Absolutely hysterical! Makes me laugh so hard I'm crying and sweating!! 🤣
Funny how this exact storyline was in an episode of the first season of Family Matters. Only it was a thousand baker's dozens of lemon tarts.
Miller-Boyett productions reused jokes. Then again, Aaron Sorkin reuses certain phrases.
They are both just variations on a bit from "I Love Lucy." The episode when Lucy is making chocolate candy and can't keep up with the speed of the line. It's one of the funniest episodes of any sitcom you'll ever see. No wonder they keep redoing it on different shows.
And pizzas on Facts of Life; Penny Blossoms on Big Bang Theory; pasta sauce on Saved By The Bell; etc
They did it on an episode of Cory in the house too!!
That's ok. Harriet Winslow works in their building. 😊
2:24 - the way Balki dances when he sings "when you make the dough too quick" while wearing a chef's hat...that always gets me every time!
I know right...its his body movements along with that hat!
