Factual. Yesterday I was at an weightlifting gym doing cleans and an experienced lifter gave me advice on how to better my form. All his advice did was make me overthink and either fail the lift or muscle clean the bar.
Something I've noticed anecdotally is that cues are much more useful in the setup and eccentric of a lift where you aren't actively pushing/pulling as hard as possible. If you set yourself up properly with simple cues, you don't have to (and shouldn't) think about anything during the hard part of the lift.
Thanks, Matt. Focusing on one cue, mid-foot placement, certainly has helped my squats.
Another banger of a video. Matt is the man
You always have the smoothest lifts. Chill vibes. Love it.
Honestly, by just training through the movements with good form I feel like my body has adapted its own style for the most efficient lift. Conscious practice on cues help, but after a while I've noticed significant improvements just by practice. When you lift focus on the lift, and envision the movement if you want, but don't overcomplicate what is meant to be simple in execution.
I can say this is very true. I come from athletics/sprinting.
Cues totally destroy or perception of movement. We don't need/ we must not think about certain cues.
As he said if it feels good it is good.
All creatures (animals and humans) don't think about the execution of a movement they just think about the end goal!
For example in running the end goal is to reach a certain location (move from point A to B) BUT NOT to lift your feet/knees up lean forward, extend,...
Just the end goal.
Perfect video at the right time!
Great vid, Matt. Just facts 💯.
Just plug up and let your body do the rest
Why is this short so long
Loving the long form content, I’m hating on these shorts. Missing the old long form content in general 😂.
The thumbnail alway funny as hell
Funny you mentioned tempo squats for controlling the descent. My coach is having me do them for that exact reason.
Hey Matt, is edging optimal?
No. Only maximum intensity gooning is optimal.
thanks matthew vena
day 2 of asking matt vena to continue the programming series

Love the BBM shout outs wish they got more views/ attention
You ever do a day of eating and how much protein you get on the normal days vs rest days?
Def agree, don't overthink when lifting. Though people should still be wary of imbalances. My left glute and hams had very low activation, leading to overcompensation of other muscles. While I felt fine when lifting, eventually this led to injury.
When Ron Swanson says "Always hole ass one thing.", I assume he's talking about squat plugs?
Amazing video man. Definitely know your shit, you should have a collab powerlifting now video lol
Second finally
Why do you just stand there on the last rep of the deadlift?
Work on grip
Just lift 🗿
"do what your body wants to do" - obviously not squats
Just remember you wont technique your way to a big lift if you just need to grow
Could you consider, for nonnative speakers, some technical improvements in the videos as the poor audio recording and speaking speed melts my brain 😊
I'm also trying to read captions but they just go too fast lol
@@gregc5392 idk his videos are pretty listenable for me as a non-native speaker with only a C1 degree. If captions are too fast then just watch at 0.75x.
Yeah i can barely understand what he's saying
