Help! 1954, 4th grade, Texas. Teacher taught us "zum gali gali, gali, zum gali gali" (twice, with the melody above). Then it seems like "Hey, ho, nobody home ..." But that's all I (think I can) remember. Does this sound familiar? Can anyone fill in the rest of it? I'm pretty sure she didn't mention that it was Israeli. Thanks. Toda raba.
When my dad sang this with American kids, he replaced the Hebrew part with "peanut butter and jam, jam and peanut butter" to get them to relax and sing it. ;-)
(Chorus -continues during verses:) Zum gali gali gali zum gali gali Zum gali gali gali zum gali gali Hechalutz le'man avodah Avodah le'man hechalutz Avodah le'man hechalutz Hechalutz le'man avodah [translation: The pioneer is for his work, work is for the pioneer] (Chorus) Hechalutz le'man hab'tulah Hab'tulah le'man hechalutz Hab'tulah le'man hechalutz Hechalutz le'man hab'tulah [translation: The pinoeer is for his friend...] (Chorus) From the dawn 'till setting sun Every one finds work to be done From the dawn 'till night does come There's a task for everyone (Chorus) Join together in a song Make the day's work seem half as long Join together in a song Came and dance and join in the song (Chorus) Zum!
Sure, here's a remix of the traditional Hebrew song "Zum Gali Gali" with an English version: (Chorus) Zum gali gali, gali gali gali, Zum gali gali, gali gali hoi! Zum gali gali, gali gali gali, Zum gali gali, gali gali hoi! (Verse 1) Down in the valley where the green grass grows, There sat Sally, sweet as a rose. She sang, she sang, she sang so sweet, Along came Johnny and kissed her on the cheek. (Chorus) Zum gali gali, gali gali gali, Zum gali gali, gali gali hoi! Zum gali gali, gali gali gali, Zum gali gali, gali gali hoi! (Verse 2) Under the moonlight, they danced all night, Their hearts were light, everything felt right. Hand in hand, they twirled around, Lost in love, they never touched the ground. (Chorus) Zum gali gali, gali gali gali, Zum gali gali, gali gali hoi! Zum gali gali, gali gali gali, Zum gali gali, gali gali hoi! Feel free to modify or adjust the lyrics as you like!
