Corey Dillon rushed 39 times for 246 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 41-14 win over the Tennessee Oilers breaking Jim Brown's 40 year old rookie single game record.
Wow boomer esiason, ki-jana carter and Corey Dillon all on the same field! Seems like some sort of weird time loop with 3 different eras phased together...
I was 15. I remember my football team going to this game and we got to warm up with some of the players. Tony Mcgee was super cool he ran routes with me and got some playes to sign autographs for us. I do remember the feeling in cincy that is Dillion started game 1 and Boomer starting earlier that we could've challenged Denver
I listened to this game off local radio and Dillon and Boomer had a great night. The Titans were just flat after Dallas but wearing down from a long year going from Houston to hardly any fans or support in Memphis.
I was at the game and it was electric for sure. If Corey Dillon didn't have such a great night many would have been talking about Boomer's amazing night as well because he was killing it.
One of the most memorable games I attended. In the stadium, walking to our seats, the crowd was chanting Who-Dey Who-Dey!! Over and over. You thought the whole stadium was going to levitate!
Thanks for uploading this. I've been trying to find footage or any kind of coverage of Boomer's return as a Bengal. It was such a huge, great time for us in Cincinnati.
This was the first game I attended. So awesome! I miss Riverfront Stadium. Watched my first two Reds games there as well. Thank you so much for uploading this video!
My all-time favorite Bengals game. Boomer picking them apart, Corey Dillon setting the record, Gunnar waiting in the tunnel. The great Willie Anderson. I had 50 yard line seats in the blue section.
Why isn't Corey Dillon in the hall of fame? He had records a lot of yards and as many super bowl rings as Jerome bettis and he actually was a contributor in that run
Dillon had the misfortune of being drafted by a terrible Bengal team. He faced 9 men in the box and still rushed for 1300-1500 Yds per season. He had the greatest rushing performance of all time gaining 279 yds vs Denver on just 21 carries. Once he left the bengals he was instrumental in them winning another super bowl. He has over 11,000 career rushing yards. Only 2000 behind Bettis despite playing 4 years less.
limited edition I agree Dillon is HOF material. I met him a few times when he was a Bengal. Very cool laid back dude. I never blamed him for wanting to get out of Cincinnati.
If you watched this game, and only this game, you would have thought the bengals were WAY better than what they really were. Boomer was incredible here (and so was Dillon)!
In just a 3-year span the Oilers/Titans went from playing football in Houston, Memphis, Vanderbilt in Nashville, then finally the new diggs in '99 so this was the one team in modern NFL history that's been through the most shit in a 3-year span of not having a real home.
If Coslet would have started Esiason from week 1 instead of waiting until week 8 when they were 1-7 and basically out of contention, the Bengals might have won it all in '97.
I was 17 at the time and was disappointed the season was over, and super excited for the next year. Then Boomer retires! At the time, I thought Boomer was old at 36, but he could have played on for another few years, no problem.
This season was weird. The Bengals finished the season with 3 straight home games. I don't recall any other team a team had 3 straight home games or road games to end a season.
It seems to be a forgotten time yeah. As a Bengals fan it has been so hard to find video or any kind of commentary on it. Boomer came back mid season and it was an incredible change of attitude for Cincinnati. It really sucks that he didn't play one more season and instead went to CBS. I've heard him mention a few times, especially during the time Manning was playing into his late late 30s, that he had a little regret not doing one final full season with the Bengals. The games he did play for Cincinnati, he looked like he had something left in the tank.
Just think if they decided to start Boomer and Corey Dillion from the get go and Carl Pickens didn't get hurt for the season. This team might have had a shot for the playoffs and possibly more.
Just James no, I’m just a long time Bengals fan. You dad was a good player. I remember his first game they played at the St. Louis Rams. One of the rams defenders kept jumping into the neutral zone to get your dad to false start. Did your dad have a serious back injury from a swimming pool? I hope he’s doing well!
I watched this game. Sam Wyche and Boomer Esiason should have remained with Bengals. Brown's mismanagement and lousy drafts between 1988-1991 didn't help. Also player development was lacking.
welcome to youtube, a couple good games you have. If youron facebook, search for Classic Sports/Movies Etc. Come join us. We share a love for classic sports.

Love them in 1977 and love them today. Who Dey.💯💯💯💯

That's a cool story. Something you will remember the rest of your life! Thanks for sharing.

Boomer would have taken them to at least the Divisional Round. Coslet screwed up letting Jeff Blake start.

If only he would have started from week 1.
And, Kenny Anderson was the offensive coordinator! Boomer had it made, since he also had a great offensive line!
This was the first game I attended. So awesome! I miss Riverfront Stadium. Watched my first two Reds games there as well.

I'm going to show my age but I seen Pete Rose in Riverfront the year he was chasing the all time hits record. It was a great day.

I LOVED hearing them say OILERS!! Plus the Bengals had way better uniforms in this era
The Titans need to GET RID of that ugly ass new uniform and change the helmet color back to white. Hell use the old Houston Oilers uniform design!
@@fredthompson4568 They need to give Houston back the Oilers name.
Why isn't Corey Dillon in the hall of fame? He had records a lot of yards and as many super bowl rings as Jerome bettis and he actually was a contributor in that run
limited edition not a chance I'm a season ticket holder and hell James Brooks should be in before Corey!! but neither is HOF caliber!
I could only imagine what Corey Dillons numbers would have been been if we could have thrown the ball and James Brooks I agree he should be
limited edition he's not a H.O.F. BACK SORRY HE PLAYED FOR THE BUNGALS!!

Much better than not having a team (Cleveland- in the exact same time frame)
And they still had decent records in 1997-1998
I'll never forget this game. I was 19. First game I ever saw on a big screen TV.
Who were ya rootin for then?
Esiason should've been the starter all year. The bungles would've made the playoffs, if not had a winning record
Love the big pads, which I believe the NFL needs to bring back to cut down on concussions.
@ No
Why it took the coach till the middle of the season to start Dillon and Esiason I will never. Understand. Had a 4-1 record
Great upload. Thank you.
55:40 Gunnar survived CF and is still thriving today!
I was at this game and boomer was kicking ass and taking names!!
Me too! My first Bengals game.
The Bengals sadly were never the same since he left. He was a Rockstar in Cincinnati.
I would say Corey Dillion was the story this night, most rushing yards in a single game by a rookie and 4 touchdowns.
I remember that ! great game thanks for uploading!

I was 18. True, he could have played a few more years, but he had that broadcasting job waiting in the wings and didn't want to risk injury.
At this point, the Bengals were the best team in the NFL.
I don't think super bowl! Playoffs definitely.
He also waited til the 7th game before he made Corey DIllon the starting RB.
I was there. Great night but I was cold!
COREY DILLON should be in the #HALLofFAME!!! To come behind a #1 pick and have the career he produced (from college to pro) is LEGENDARY!!!
This season was weird. The Bengals finished the season with 3 straight home games. I don't recall any other team a team had 3 straight home games or road games to end a season.
I had no clue Boomer went back to the Bengals after going to the Jets.
E.A. Hawley Yup. This was his last season in the NFL
he was a cardinal in 96 too as i recall
i dont remember boomer as a Lion

corvettez06usa he went to ABC but yeah if he played in 98 the Bengals might have seen their revival before Marvin Lewis even got there
Just think if they decided to start Boomer and Corey Dillion from the get go and Carl Pickens didn't get hurt for the season. This team might have had a shot for the playoffs and possibly more.
Bienemy. The Chiefs coach no one wants to hire as a head coach lol.
I saw this game. Fun!
Introducing Corey Dillon
Carl Linder the 3rd gave me luxury box seats for this game.
Those 2 teams hated hated each other through the late 80s and 90s
Late 80s and early 90s. By 97 it was just another game.
I was there Go Bengals.
I miss the oilers uniforms. Why did they ever have to change to the titans.
r u a dumbass houston is a oil city hints the oilers. they moved to tennessee do they have oil in tennessee hell no. so thats y they r the titans
Tennessee Oilers...that just didn't sound right. They became the Titans in 1999--much better ring to it.
Could you make a video about # 66. Ken Blackman because he’s my dad and I want to see all his highlights
I remember your dad playing for the Bengals.
Did you know him
Just James no, I’m just a long time Bengals fan. You dad was a good player. I remember his first game they played at the St. Louis Rams. One of the rams defenders kept jumping into the neutral zone to get your dad to false start. Did your dad have a serious back injury from a swimming pool? I hope he’s doing well!
I made a video about him on my UA-cam
How'd that D hold McNair and George to 14 pts?!?!? 😆
Jeff Fisher
I watched this game. Sam Wyche and Boomer Esiason should have remained with Bengals. Brown's mismanagement and lousy drafts between 1988-1991 didn't help. Also player development was lacking.
December 4, 1997
What happened to these announcers? When did they stop doing this for espn?
Whenever ESPN changed and started all the talking head/biggest blowhard shows.
ESPN was a great network before DISNEY got their liberal greedy pc hands on it. Sad
We did not want to hear from Ron anyway, running his cake.
He looks like that goober on Ferris Bueller's day off.
Back in the Bungle days
Damn you couldn't put a spoiler alert as far as the game breakdown? No sense in watching a 2+ hour game I already know the outcome to
PeediSigel I don't understand what you're complaining about.
This was the best Sunday night commentating duo imo. Michaels is good but Collingsworth is terrible..
collinsworth is the best and its not close
Wonder what could of been had Boomer started the whole year.
welcome to youtube, a couple good games you have. If youron facebook, search for Classic Sports/Movies Etc. Come join us. We share a love for classic sports.
Oh yes, the Bruce Coslet years. Not much has changed since then. Ughhh
Oh Bruce Coslet lol
Oilers had nice uniforms also , titans now are terrible
They lost a really really close game to Jacksonville that year or they would have made the playoffs..
surely u aint talking about cincy, they missed the playoffs by 4 games dude
yeah that was 96... but they finished strong...
What an ass whooping by a supposedly bad team on a supposedly good team.
Oilers
Corporatelife v wildlife. 🙀💲🙀
Cincy Bungholes haven't had a good RB since Dillon.
I think Rudi Johnson would have something to say about that.
Mr. Nibble Nips Rudy Johnson was pretty good
Rudy Johnson had a number of 1,000 yard seasons as had Cedric Benson. Jeremy Hall had 1000 three years ago and Mixon had very near that this year (at 5+ per carry)
Mrs. Nibble Nibs Squealers fan?
That is Oilers nothing to do with Tennessee Houston
Riverfront 🏟️. Those were the days! The Bengals and Oilers still have not won a Superbowl! They r way overdue!!
