This album is a head-scratcher. After the excellent blizzards of Pure holocaust and battles in the north, they come up with this strange kid. The sound is like an imbecile took care of it, the riffing is all chunky and odd, the album is super short, the voice is totally outside of the mix, the drum sound is like miniature. Sloppiness reigns supreme (like in the ones before, they played sort of like grappling with an actual wind storm in the room), and strip-it-to-the-fucking-bone must have been written very big in the wall when they recorded. The results is very unconventional and unique music, sort of industrial in occasions. That I really can't stop loving.
This is the album that got me hooked, Nebular ravens winter is my personal favorite, After listening to this album there was no turning back. They could have DOMINATED after EMPEROR split up. 🤘👹🤘

The reason the riffs sound like Morbid Angel's Domination album is because Immortal had toured with Morbid Angel and was subsequently influenced by their sound when they wrote Blizzard.
This is clearly Immortal. Sorry it falls under Black Metal and while it may be more "thrashier" then there other stuff up to that point it is not close to Thrash metal 😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈
I always overlooked this album, but listening to how they went back to thrash and death metal a lot more on this, you can make more sense of the development of the classic, furious black metal of the classic Demonaz era and the more Bathory-esque (and Teutonic thrash-influenced) Abbath-led era. The riffs on this, mountains of might especially, are clearly a huge influence on Abbath's later style when he took over... Demonaz did teach him how to play, after all...

I love this album, it's chaotic in both musicianship and songwriting. I know it's one of their most criticized by Immortal enthusiasts, a typical either "you love it or hate it" situation. I'm curious about the drum sound... I would guess it's full-triggered to a drum machine, the snare sound is always same pitch/velocity, same as the kick drum giving it a dirty industrial feeling in a way.
I neither love nor hate it; I used to hate it but I now like it more than some of their blander newer albums like All Shall Fall and Northern Chaos Gods
People say about the poor production but......It's how it WOULD sound in a winter blizzard if you think about it...Sound being blown around in and out of focus,the band battling a ferocious North wind threatening to topple them,but they just about...Hang in there. I think the ' production 'for me anyway makes this still a great album and set them apart ... It's like when the Stranglers released the Black and White album Blizzard Beasts reminds me of some of the 'out there' production on that for some reason.Two completely different but similar in their uniqueness , both raw grit and some good ideas.

Although I already had plenty of other BM albums in the apt, including some older Immortal albums, when I played this one on the radio I felt that the living room had darkened, I have never felt such a dark aura before, I remember saying "this sounds pretty evil" even though I knew the lyrics were probably about frost lands and stuff.
That was the last good Immortal album for me, although I like the newest one without Abbath again. "Blizzard Beast" is clearly different, but still full of spirit. This may be due to the influence of Morbid Angel with whom they were touring at the time, correct me if I am wrong . I think the production fits the album exactly.

This has to be the "greatest" metal album, ever. This stuff is gold. Too bad that this band did not tour for this album back in the day in 1997. This is where Osmose Records was a (very) popular label and I mean a very popular label under the direction of Herve. This is where Osmose Productions at times said that they were higher than the rock bands, yes, that Osmose records too was a star in its own right. Hilarious in a good way. There is no band in the UK or Europe/Australia/Canada/Asia/India or even the USA that can equal or surpass Blizzard's beasts. Abbath also mentioned about Demonaz's tendinitis on his muscles that crippled the lead guitarist for some time. I too was aware of Century media news back in the day (which was very informative in the late '90s); it's not like today in 2022. I also had contact with the webmaster from the Immortal site back in the day and If I remember correctly nothing was mentioned about this (about touring in 1997/1998). This is where Osmose Productions at times said that they were higher than the rock bands, yes, that Osmose records too was a star in its own right. Hilarious in a good way. There is no band in the UK or Europe/Australia/Canada/Asia/India or even the USA that can equal or surpass Blizzard's beasts. The original lineup for Immortal--for this album titled blizzard beasts: Demonaz, Abbath, And Horgh. Frost demon storm is a beautiful song.

To:@@wolfgangdiaz2360: I read this in a Magazine back in the day (1997/1998). I also read a report interview that was done on Demonaz/Abbath on the web that they did not tour. Abbath also mentioned about Demonaz's tendinitis on his muscles that crippled the lead guitarist for some time. I too was aware of Century media news back in the day (which was very informative in the late '90s); it's not like today in 2022. I also had contact with the webmaster from the Immortal site back in the day and If I remember correctly nothing was mentioned about this (about touring in 1997/1998). They toured in 2000 in California but they already had Iscariah (the thin bassist player). Happy Halloween 10-29-2022 Oct. USA. North America.
