This is one of the best Immortal albums ... but I keep saying that about many of them! 'Mountains Of Might' is the best song to offer here - it's cold enough to freeze your balls off!!! Quite the album considering it was recorded after an exhausting tour with the Morbid Ones. They must have been influenced like crazy. This record was a great precursor to "At The Heart Of Winter" - Doubtless! Hails to Immortal - Hails from Canada!

This album is so unique .The fact that they tour with Morbid Angel, brings this result and is not bad at all. The bass is heavier than ever .The productiont is very tight and each song is a relief !Proud of this album in my discography .Mountains of might is a masterpiece .

I was thinking the same thing. I found myself looking up other bands I haven't listened to in years. Samael, Sarcofago, Sinister, Necromantia, etc... I remember taking along a friend with me to see Immortal play live, was his first time...He couldn't believe the music, the sound, the noise and general badassness iminating from those three instruments being wielded by these three maniacs. Ah, good times...I think I'll go play some Sadistic Intent now...

This album is a head-scratcher. After the excellent blizzards of Pure holocaust and battles in the north, they come up with this strange kid. The sound is like an imbecile took care of it, the riffing is all chunky and odd, the album is super short, the voice is totally outside of the mix, the drum sound is like miniature. Sloppiness reigns supreme (like in the ones before, they played sort of like grappling with an actual wind storm in the room), and strip-it-to-the-fucking-bone must have been written very big in the wall when they recorded. The results is very unconventional and unique music, sort of industrial in occasions. That I really can't stop loving.

The riffs on this, mountains of might especially, are clearly a huge influence on Abbath's later style when he took over... Demonaz did teach him how to play, after all...

I'm curious about the drum sound... I would guess it's full-triggered to a drum machine, the snare sound is always same pitch/velocity, same as the kick drum giving it a dirty industrial feeling in a way.

I think the ' production 'for me anyway makes this still a great album and set them apart ...
It's like when the Stranglers released the Black and White album Blizzard Beasts reminds me of some of the 'out there' production on that for some reason. Two completely different but similar in their uniqueness , both raw grit and some good ideas.

There's a huge market for 'demo' production in 2021 in BM 'goat war metal and noise -

Although I already had plenty of other BM albums in the apt, including some older Immortal albums, when I played this one on the radio I felt that the living room had darkened, I have never felt such a dark aura before, I remember saying "this sounds pretty evil" even though I knew the lyrics were probably about frost lands and stuff.

That was the last good Immortal album for me, although I like the newest one without Abbath again. "Blizzard Beast" is clearly different, but still full of spirit. This may be due to the influence of Morbid Angel with whom they were touring at the time, correct me if I am wrong . I think the production fits the album exactly.

    MASSIVE SOUND, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is THE BEST Immortal album by far!
The first three Immortal albums sound like demo tapes in comparison to Blizzard Beasts...
well, let me correct that actually:
the first two sound like demos, while Battles in the North sounds like a bad rehearsal tape.
    This here is the shit!
    Simply Perfect!!!

I remember that Professional musicians (back in the day in 1997)were saying that there wasn't anything good in 1997 when it came to heavy metal, but the critics were wrong. This has to be the "greatest" metal album, ever. This stuff is gold. Too bad that this band did not tour for this album back in the day in 1997. This is where Osmose Records was a (very) popular label and I mean a very popular label under the direction of Herve. This is where Osmose Productions at times said that they were higher than the rock bands, yes, that Osmose records too was a star in its own right. Hilarious in a good way. There is no band in the UK or Europe/Australia/Canada/Asia/India or even the USA that can equal or surpass Blizzard's beasts. The original lineup for Immortal--for this album titled blizzard beasts: Demonaz, Abbath, And Horgh. Frost demon storm is a beautiful song.

To:@@wolfgangdiaz2360: I read this in a Magazine back in the day (1997/1998). I also read a report interview that was done on Demonaz/Abbath on the web that they did not tour. Abbath also mentioned about Demonaz's tendinitis on his muscles that crippled the lead guitarist for some time. I too was aware of Century media news back in the day (which was very informative in the late '90s); it's not like today in 2022. I also had contact with the webmaster from the Immortal site back in the day and If I remember correctly nothing was mentioned about this (about touring in 1997/1998). They toured in 2000 in California but they already had Iscariah (the thin bassist player). Happy Halloween 10-29-2022 Oct. USA. North America.
