Saber grind is truly the best middle ground for me between toughness and slice. It's the middle ground between full flat and scandi. It slices very well you can feather stick or carve wood with it very well, love a saber grind.
Fun review, looks like a great knife! Never had carp on coals, Ill have to try it this summer, we shoot them with bow. We have smoked them and they were decent and made "carp pie" with them, simple recipe one third carp, third onions, third sour cream, mix well and spread into a pie tin lined with pastry crust. Bake until golden brown and fish is cooked, pretty tasty with carp, pike or other mild fish. Thanks for the vid !
Hello 👋 James, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing the fine knife review. That is a good looking 🗡 knife. What is the cost? All the best to you. Stay safe out there. 🤗 👋
Have the Mt Laguna and LOVE it! When I got it, was surprised how small it actually was, not a detriment, handles like a big knife, no job too big! WTG is a GREAT KNIFE COMPANY! Top shelf products! Love them!
Bought a strongarm because of the sturdiness and survival knife practicality a while back. Wish I woulda seen this one as its more my style. Looks like a sexy tank of a knife. I might still get this
James sir! Been with you for 5+ years now. Still love your channel and vids. As if you were good friend from high school that lived next door to me, I have always appreciated your clean, simple, and honest approach. As long as you keep on making vids, I will keep on watching.
It tastes really similar to catfish to me, which a lot of people think is bad unless they grew up eating it. Only reason I don’t eat carp is because the waters youd catch them in near me are pretty polluted.
@@JunkyardFox That is great news, man. I know you hate doing knife reviews but yours are more fun to watch than 98% of the similar videos on UA-cam. Why? Because you put knives to real use in realistic situations in interesting surroundings. Finally, you try to be objective as much as you can. Surely, you have to push the Snake Eater, we all know that, but trust me, there is no competition. A knife nut will by any knife he or she likes. So, give us more knife reviews. The one with catch and cook content, preferably! Thank you in advance!
Greetings from Alabama , great knife . I would like a snake eater though . Carp is considered a trash fish here , but the way you cooked it , looks great .
Mt. Laguna is very much a survival knife, and chinese method for carp is to marinade and sweet and sour makes it a real dish, learned this in Viet Nam.
No, not quite. they both fill diffrent niches. the kansbol is slender, a carver, a slicer. the Laguna is a tank that can take a beating, a utility knife
Huh. Never thought of just tossing a gutted fish right on the coals. I'm going to have to try that out on the next camping trip. Growing up in rural North Carolina, Grandpa just taught me to clean and filet the fish and put them on a small grill we set up over the fire. That knife looks neat and for such a low price is on my list to buy next paycheck. It's like a Tops Fieldcraft knife but without all the horrid coating on that makes Tops knifes such a bear when working with wood or food. Just wipe it down after use or apply a light coating of oil on it if it's going into long-term storage in a bug out bag or something.
Personally id love if you tested out the bow-drill method for making a fire since the knife has that feature but i get it,you might not have the proper resources at the time👍🏻
I was told that carp was a trash fish. Then I find that Carp is the most cultivated and among the most consumed fish in the world. Of the top 10 species of harvested fish, carp lists 6 members including the number one fish Grass Carp. Total cultivated carp equals over 22 million tonnes. (Wikipedia "Commercially important fish") Maybe not always the most desirable catch, however you enjoyed it and it seems to feed a lot of the world. Thanks for sharing and Bon Appetit
Very true. its all about looking past your region or culture and seeing the bigger picture. if you lived in india, youce never eat steak or hamburgers, so its all relative. still not my first choice for fish dinner but ive had way worse wild food(rock squirrel), so i wont complain.
Both Wingman and Fox have designed some beautiful knives. Both seem to fill so many gaps in function. And from one fisherman to another- "trash fish" only applies to toxic fish IMO. Carp is delicious. Anyone who says otherwise, just can't cook. And James can cook on open coals better than most modern women could in a kitchen.
AMIGO, GREEN BEANS ARE EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD AND EVEN DELICIOUS WITH SOME GOYA HAM Bouillon AND IN A TITE SPOT WITH SUM KNORR CHICKEN Bouillon TO. DONT DISCOUNT THEM SO FAST AND EASY. THEY ARE VERY GOOD, AMIGO
i seen guy try cut open can with his knife .the knife cut can open and cut his finger almost off .the moral of it knife steel is hard and can is soft tin.
The Chinese eat the hell outa carp. Best thing I found with any fish with strong flavor smoke um. Don't tin foil wrap just smoke them or BBQ like you did hahaha
Hey guys, mt laguna knives are acutely in stock RIGHT NOW, here’s the link to buy one: www.worktuffgear.com/product-page/mt-laguna-satin
The knife is awesome.
The sheath sucks ass

Thanks for using the knife how I designed it. Hunting fishing and camp craft tasks. I would love to bow fish those carp. Good stuff my friend.
Badass knife Wingman.
I could totally see you merking carp Robin Hood style in the canals here in the desert. There's a few giants in them.
@@SonoraSlinger 👍🏻👊🏻
it was a pleasure Jon! that blade became such a joy to carry, even when just at home relaxing, having a beer, im constantly fidgeting with it lol
That knife is beautiful. The bow drill divet is a neat touch.
Sweet knife, I like it 👍

interesting, ive never had a fish pie
Hola🙋🏻♂️🤠en el video cuando habré la lata se aprecia un filo endemoniado😮👍
Never one to let us down. Another outstanding knife review. Well done, hermano.
Bro, those bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños are legit! "This ain't no trout, this tastes like trout" had me laughing.
lol yeah, i did not expect this fish to taste fgood at all, so i was surprised
Good knife. Tank is a good description.

What a beast! Looks like it would withstand a direct hit from an RPG! Love it!
with this knife, i can catch and cook and rpg grenade, skin it and everything lol
That is a pretty sweet looking knife. And a great video James.
Nice show and tell there JY 🦊 so its thicker then 1/4 looks like awesome

Great review James. I bought one this past Christmas time. I haven’t had a chance to use it. Within the next month when the weather gets better.
Hope you enjoy it! its a tough little blade
Thanks for uploading, James
glad you liked it!
Work Tuff makes good stuff! I have a discontinued Kitsune S. :)
In the 3 years or so that I've been watching your channel I've purchased 3 knives that you tested so far the Mora Kansbol Has been my favorite.
oh the kansbol is a classic
Great job opening can
Love the knife and cooking video

awesome borther, appreciate the love, new video dropping friday
Let’s be honest here- carp is seriously underrated
I've had it a few times. It was good and I don't even like fish.
It tastes really similar to catfish to me, which a lot of people think is bad unless they grew up eating it. Only reason I don’t eat carp is because the waters youd catch them in near me are pretty polluted.
If It's Prepared Properly It's Delicious, If You Soak It In Buttermilk Overnight And Then Roll It In Seasond Flour And Then Deep Fry It YUMMIES 🤘😎🤘
@@theoneandonlycarlton I bleed the fish out to kill it then make a curry with it
Blessings from Iowa, hoping to see more vids from both you and Cuervo. Great review of that fixed blade.
Want one!
That fish is gorgeous.
As far as the fish, anything cooked on a campfire outside is gonna taste good even it's bad
Nice work 👏🏽 what a tuff knife
it a piece of gear that works hard too. i guess you can call it a work tuff gear knife.
Good looking knife, looks indestructible.
I watch a lot of the videos about the Reindeer herders in Siberia.. They pop cans open all the time with there knives... Nice review!
Thanks for the info!
Yay! A knife review!
got new knives coming my way for testing

Nice
Great overall review thanks! But love that snake eater knife cuz the green river is one my favorite all time knives! So wood steel is the maker?
the snake eater is no longer made
Hope all is well with Cuervo.. ✌️
check out the latest video we released last week

No, not quite. they both fill diffrent niches. the kansbol is slender, a carver, a slicer. the Laguna is a tank that can take a beating, a utility knife
I’m really digging the knife shape. Carp is definitely not on the top of anyones choice for fish but cooking over coals like that adds so much flavor.
I like carp. You just gotta prepare it properly

the cooking fish on coals method only works if it has scales, if it has skin like catfish, itll just burn
Check out the Beavercraft BSH1 (there's also a smaller BSH2) or the Tramontina Churrasco meat knife ("black collection"); cheap & reliable! ❤
Carp is pretty good hot, but if you let it cool too much the meat begins to take on a cotton ball texture and hard to eat. Nice knife and video!
Were you able to try using it for a bow drill? I'm curious how well the scales hold up on the handle under friction.
Personally id love if you tested out the bow-drill method for making a fire since the knife has that feature but i get it,you might not have the proper resources at the time👍🏻

Your braver than me eating a carp. The lakes where I fish have advisories to eat only one carp a month so I just throw them back.

Wait, what about the fire drill divot
Taking one for the team tasting that carp.
That can opening go a whole lot easier if you stand up and hold can between your feet.
Intersting, i neverthought of that
Carp is nasty. I toss em on the bank for the eagles. Although the asians usually get to em first lol

Nice review. I don’t care for this brand the blades are too damn thick therefore too heavy. If your cutting bolts then your set.
It is so strange to see people catch and eat carp I see them more like pets, like cats and dogs
you think we wont catch n cook a cat or dog? lol jk i love cats
Why is it what I watch your videos I want get something to eat? 🤨🤔
you gotta watch the video we jsut released yesterday!
Carp were brought here for a food source !
Love the knife.
Love the handle.
Absolutely FUCKING HATE
the sheath.
Should be leather.
Deal breaker.
Really? im not a kydex guy at all but this sheath is incredible. whts wrong with it?
By the way, I don't like the knife. It looks like something Chris Tanner would design.
When are you going to actually use it out in field you don't use it in field
It wasn’t mine to keep
It’s not the taste of the fish it’s all those cotton picking bones they’ve got
cooking it in this method makes it so easy to remove the bones, the meat jsut slides right off
