beautiful, this is how I imagine getting to the moon is done in the For All Mankind universe in Season 4, as it is heavily implied with the existence of the International Space Port and the SSTO space planes at the end of season 4 and the opening news reel

You are absolutely right! Remember thinking this way as a schoolboy in 1969. But some aspects of this retro futurism did become reality. Space shuttles and reusable spacecraft became reality. So did orbiting space stations. Space tourism is only now taking off with space x testing its starship. But sadly, there is no moon base.
holy shit. i cannot explain how much this nails my favorite aesthetic of all time--- 1970s retrofuturism and commercialized spaceflight. the editing, shot composition, design of some of the ships (especially the custom ones), all of it comes together to make such a unique period piece of a nonexistent era. i cannot get enough of it. i'm an avid video editor (i swear i've done better stuff since than what's up on my channel from like years ago), hit me up if you ever want to work on anything!
@@yukon09make an edit of just a regular tourist trip via Mach 20 hypersonic reentry-based spaceplane aircraft, using earth’s orbital velocity to glide towards its destination at Mach 25. Just a thought, and I don’t even play KSP. :3

I love the 2001 space Odyssey refrence! (Or I think it is..) All the ships looks amazing, and om so glad you found the time to finish this. Keep doing what you do!
@@PiDsPagePrototypes Even 2001 didn't show them counter-rotating, though as it appeared to be under construction, perhaps they left it that way to make the practicals easier to manage. But the design clearly would have supported it.
This is a pretty realistic representation of how space tourism could have been performed in the 2000's in a "never ending space race" scenario. The technologies used for the spacecraft do not seem that far off from our current or near future tech level, so it could perfectly be done in an alternate, more techologically advanced version of humanity. Also, the short film is great!
Absolutely beautiful. Wonderful cinematography, gorgeous vehicle design and lovely music. Was a bit burned out from ksp a few days ago but I'm going to start again thanks to you.
I am reading the 2001: A Space Odyssey novel before watching the movie and this is exactly how I imagined the trip to the Moon! It is so incredible that you can create such cinematic sequences in KSP! You're an amazinf builder and I can't wait to see what's next!
I can't even start to imagine how long this took but man was it worth it, every single shot is gorgeous. Makes me feel nostalgic for the 1980's future we never got
I am a simple man; I see a gorgeously produced video in Kerbal Space Program referencing 2001 A Space Odyssey set to gorgeous city pop music and I upvote
The amount of sci fi and real life references to aeronautics and space travel in this video are wonderful. Heat shield present on the Concorde Space station from 2001 Bottom stage from Ad Astra 3:40 Shot reminds me of landing flip in First Man Moon Landing facility from Ad Astra Obelisk from 2001 Feel free to reply with what I missed
The “heat shield” you’re referencing on the Concorde doesn’t exist on that craft. It’s actually from the X-20 Dyna-Soar, although that was affixed directly to the window and was jettisoned after re-entry.
Also, the aircraft itself is reffered to as the "Orion Clipper", which is a direct reference to the LEO transport TSTO spaceplane at the begining of 2001, that was called the Space Clipper Orion III.
And let's not forget about that trans-lunar tranporter, which I've seen other people in this very comment section sayis made to resemble the Eagles from Space: 1999, and its registration number N1969A being a rather convoluted reference to the Moon landings and Niel Armstrong.
I wish shit like this was in that show. Honestly they are so obsessed with Shuttle, despite the probability that a NASA focused on expanding the Apollo programme would end up developing something more like the Rockwell DC3 or Lockheed-Martin Starclipper, and those would only be for construction of Space Station Freedom. Trans-lunar operations would probably be done by a low-cost derivation of Saturn V alongside the nuclear shuttle concept. And if you wanna use shuttle for that job, why not put a fuel tank in its cargo bay? Then you don’t have the ET going into interplanetary space.
As an addendum to my previous point, I realised that the use of shuttle as a lunar transfer ship wouldn’t be that preposterous of an idea in theory. Due to its partially reusable nature in our timeline, and the potential of full reusability in an expanded FoM one, it would take significantly less time between launches. But then, how would it get back? As the ET is dropped either after TLI or Lunar capture, I doubt it would have enough Delta-v to perform an Earth capture, meaning it would either have to perform a very awkward intercept with some kind of orbital tug or a very dangerous aerocapture, which would probably result in the shuttle being destroyed, due to its inability to handle more than 3gs of acceleration.
No way! It's finished! I discovered the unfinished version a few months ago and i regularely came back to it just for the peace and optimistic near future side of it, I think i'm gonna change to this version.
If you guys want to watch (and read) a short anime/manga, there is one called Planetes (2003) It's about a space debris removal crew in a post-modern time and its super duper realistic! if you get over the drama and love part of the show, the science and space aspect is awesome.
