Wow. As bad as Nixon was, he was far from Trump How well Mr. Thomas knows his subject ! Something to learn from ! Before Trump became known (temporarily) to everyone. The more things change, the more they remain the same.
I agree with you up to a point. He could, and should, have been a great president. He had some great achievements - the breakthrough with China which strengthened his hand in dealing with the Soviets, and some considerable and often overlooked success on the domestic front. But he was spoiled by his dark side, as so many people have told us, by his virtual paranoia. Intellectually he was head and shoulders above many of the presidents who have been in office since.
I might think that if it were not now a matter of established fact that through Anna Chennault, Nixon sabotaged Lyndon Johnson's peace overture to the North Vietnamese just before the 1968 election.
Bob Taylor - I know right. In 1968 he has Anna secretly meeting the South Vietnamese telling them they'll get a better deal with Nixon. Then in 1972 he has Kissinger meeting in secret with North Vietnam completely undermining the Souths position.
@@bobtaylor170 Well yes, if this really is the fact of the matter it's a monstrous crime. I believe Nixon advocates try to nuance the story in various ways, trying to present the story as not quite so clear-cut. But if Nixonreally did manoeuvre to prolong the war to increase his chances of office - well, there are no words.

Nixon actually was a good president. It is a pity that we are traditionally putting him down.
