- After owning my Lotus Emira v6 Manual first edition for a few months now, it's finally done its running in 1000 miles and it's time for a track day at brands hatch! But first CA and myself take a visit to Milltek exhausts in Derby to fit their new system! It should sound better and they believe give a 10 bhp boost, so what better place to test it than a track day! Things got pretty wild pretty quick as expected! Enjoy...

Looks like really fun to drive. It's still strange to me that they put sound limits on how loud a car is. I live about twenty minutes from Walkins Glen International in upstate New york. And you can hear the cars racing at that track from more than ten miles away. Lol
local residents took the race circuit owners to court over noise and won the battle. most of the Brands hatch circuit is closed due to the track passing nearby houses. Only on a limited number of days a year ids the whole circuit open.

That is ridiculous. Same thing is happening in the US. They don’t close airports, railroads, fire stations, etc. Why close race tracks that were there before houses were built by them?
@@ludda42 yep, similar with live music venues that predate all the housing built up around them, or at least the latest tenants & owners.

Whats up with the exaggerated low noise limits on tracks in the UK?! I love England, been there many times, but Im always surprised at the amount of rules that govern your lives on the daily.
yeah sad isnt it, youd have thought your right to complain about noise wouldnt be valid if you bought a cheap house next to a race track but welcome to the uk!
Seems like the Emira is taking the track "abuse" pretty well so far? Wondering how it'll do over long run doing things like open track days or repeated track use. I'm contemplating my order as it's about to finally deliver. Also, how do the seats fare on track use? are you glad you did Alcantara interior for that little bit of extra anti-slide hold?
Yeah I have done a couple more track days and it absolutely eats it up! The interior is great, seats are a perfect mix of comfort on the long runs and holds well on track, I would definitely recommend the alcantara but have never tried anything else!

Love your video! Your video solidified my decision to get a Milltek exhaust system myself. Do you have check engine light after installing the Milltek exhaust? I encountered it today, only after a few hours of installing it. But the error code disappeared after I turned on and off the car a few times. Now I’m not sure if it will happen again. Please help😂
haha! I have had an engine light or two but dont think from the exhaust, maybe though! never one thats not gone away after turning it on and off again though. I feel thats just part of the lotus charm 😂

between the emira and an audi v10 manual which do you think gives better sensations?
I’ve never driven an Audi r8 manual, but I’ve driven the v10 performance and it certainly isn’t a drivers car! The noise is incredible, one of the best there is but after a week I was happy to give it back! The lotus I love more and more each time I drive it

Happily!! We are going to landow soon I think, hopefully with more drifts allowed. Most track days (including this one) black flag you pretty quickly for getting skiddy which is a shame!

if the steering wheel ain't round, well then you don't care about caster at all or there isn't a pretty enough upgrade from china yet
Steering wheels should not go past the 90 degree mark I think!!! 90 degrees = full lock car making people!!!

You did well not to write that car off, get some decent tyres on it. 56 second laps are extremely slow for a car of that power. A 25 year old Lotus Elise S1 with a 134bhp engine can do a lap a lot quicker but its a fun video. I'm surprised you didn't get black flagged for driving like that ??

I mean a low 54 isn’t too bad I thought with a passenger 😅 I would be very impressed to see a stock S1 do a much faster time. As for the tyres I don’t want track tyres, I like driving the car on the road and occasionally on track so cup 2s seem decent enough for me thanks! I did also get black flagged for drifting yes 😂

Do you use sport cup 2s? I have a Lotus Evora GT in the US. I did a GRP decat and cold air intake, but what really changed it was getting it tuned with a dyno. Originally, it had 416 HP at the crank. Now I'm running 504 HP at the crank and 439 at the wheels.

Took my 1970 Europa on a track day - different in so many ways, but what was exactly the same was the point about thinking I was at my (and the cars) limit after the first session and then ending up somewhere else indeed by mid-afternoon.
I think that’s what make a great car great! You can work with it and get more from it at the limit

Kinda, I am trying pretty hard to get it out on most turns! You can drive it really hard without the back coming out but that’s what I enjoy trying!
The Emira is just so painfully slow (ie barely as quick as a 24yo Ferrari 360). I guess it makes it more controllable at the limit, but it's a major problem for this car.
PS where on earth is the mid corner traction?? Unless it was just a very cold day (didn't look like it), I would be absolutely terrified of taking that car on a tighter track (ie Nurb where Shmee had a very close one!)
I'd potentially recommend trying the Conti Sport Contact 7 if temps are an issue with the Cup 2!
PPS the reason for that big "moment" is likely poor entry line / huge risk of hitting inside curb when turning in at probably too high speed. I'd probably prefer the far wider line, with perhaps some trail braking to move the car into the bend towards the apex, then allowing you to power out with more traction. Then again, if this is known as a full throttle bend then I could be wrong! :)
